Help w/ score report Dr. Nick04-23-2002, 03:19 AMThis may sound kind of odd but I am trying to figure out exactly what my step 1 score means. I got a 239 but I was only able to find out via e-mail with my school as I am out of the country at the moment. I know it's "very nice" according to my dean but I really have no other context to go on. Anyone with the same or similar score that can give me a breakdown on that score? It would be appreciated. dingiswayo04-23-2002, 06:30 AMGo to this thread from a week ago. http://forums.studentdoctor.net/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=31;t=000165 your score is in the top 10-15% of first time american test takers. nice work. Thanks Dingis, I did read the link you posted but I am still unclear as to how you estimated the 10-15% figure - clearly statistics is not my strongpoint. Could you please explain? Thanks in advance! Jim Picotte04-24-2002, 06:12 PMYou'll have to see your score report but with a mean of 215 and SD of 20 (this is what it was when I took step 1), a 239 is at 88.5%. They don't report this on the score report anymore though, so you'll have to calculate the z score. It's been a long time since I've had statistics and I had to look it up myself to figure out mine. You can go to Z-Score to calculate this yourself and enter whatever the SD and mean were along with your score (Y) and selective cumulative as the graph and it'll calculate your percentile. It's very good, great job. Dr. Nick04-25-2002, 02:32 AM

Hey Thanks, Jim. That is a nice link. I knew it was "roughly one SD over the mean" but given my statistics-challenged brain it's really nice to see it in graphical format and to estimate a rough percentile. Maybe i'm obsessing, but after working so hard to study for the test it is nice to understand your result - especially since I haven't got my actual score report! Cheers! dingiswayo04-25-2002, 04:46 AMnice link jim!
