View Full Version : Howard class of 2011
TechRx 04-04-2007, 10:07 AM Where are you at? I need to talk to my fellow future classmates.....
Got gazillions of questions about moving there in 3-4 months
Let's get to know each other!
TechRx 04-04-2007, 04:28 PM Uhh, come on. I know I'm not the only one that got accepted. Or do people leave the forum once they get accepted? :D
Louisiana Girl 04-04-2007, 04:36 PM I did not apply this year but will next year and wanted to know what were your stats and did you go there already and are you instate? Also, anything else about the school that is interesting.
alkali123 04-05-2007, 07:20 AM unfortunately.. im still waiting for that fedex letter... *sigh*
PRINCESS_IJ 04-07-2007, 01:41 AM Uhh, come on. I know I'm not the only one that got accepted. Or do people leave the forum once they get accepted? :D
Congrats.
PursueYRDream 04-07-2007, 10:14 AM I received my letter from Howard on Friday! It was sent via regular mail not FEDEX. Good luck everyone!
tytytamvn 04-07-2007, 10:21 AM When did you interview? Are you in-state student? Do you mind if I asked what your stat is?
TechRx 04-07-2007, 06:18 PM Thank you Princess_IJ! Did you apply as well? Louisiana girl, I'm in atlanta and I've never been to D.C. except for the interview. I like Howard because of it's history, and most importantly it has a pharmacy school! I was a bit skeptical at first due to how the staff handled things, and of course the accreditation issue, but I know everything will be okay. Congrats to PursueYRDream, where do you live? If you're going to Howard, where will you live? I'm trying to figure out where I'm going to live.....
jshelzz 04-07-2007, 09:31 PM I got my letter today via the u.s. postal service:thumbup:
apple84 04-07-2007, 10:15 PM When did you have interview?
TechRx 04-08-2007, 01:02 AM Congrats jshelzz!
jshelzz 04-08-2007, 02:19 AM jan. 17th
comet81 04-08-2007, 01:35 PM I had interview on March, 13th but I still have not heard anything from them. It seems like they are done with only those who had interview on January.
alkali123 04-08-2007, 07:56 PM yeah well.. my interview wasnt until march 27th...
busypharmcgal 04-09-2007, 12:56 AM oopsie..double post
busypharmcgal 04-09-2007, 12:57 AM First of all congratulations to everyone who got accepted!
I am also waiting for Howard"s decision, I wanted to know if those that got accepted all received the postcard first, I read on another post that rxtech did..
I received the postcard last week and thought they sent it by mistake in place of the "we regret to inform you" letter, but rxtech gave me hope:o
did anyone else receive this postcard too? or did anyone not?
Have they also sent out decline letters, and if so did those students get the postcard first too? Let me know, or private msg me, I'm trying to figure it out..
this waiting thing is so hard :(
busypharmcgal 04-09-2007, 01:00 AM oh and my int. was Jan. 17th..
alkali123 04-09-2007, 06:49 AM waht did it say on the postcard?
kikidun21 04-09-2007, 11:48 AM I received the acceptance letter today by regular mail.
I will try to answer questions that I see are being asked by others.
I first received the postcard reading "Howard University has recieved your application for admission. You will be notified of any additional documents required to complete your file." I was interviewed on Jan 17. I am form Florida. My stats are 3.95 overall GPA, 4.00 science and math GPA. 84 Composite on PCAT. I have pharmacy experience and alot of extra curricular.
busypharmcgal 04-09-2007, 01:49 PM "Howard University has recieved your application for admission. You will be notified of any additional documents required to complete your file."
that's the same one I received as well, but I heard that it was sent out by their general admissions office, and that students of all programs, not just pharmacy, would have received it.
Congratulations kiddidun21 those are excellent stats!
I'm scared:scared:
kikidun21 04-09-2007, 03:51 PM Thank you busypharmcgal.
I must agree that the waiting is very horrible. And on top of that calling Howard is such a waste of time, because no one can ever provide the answers you are looking for.
I am thinking that once the admission office sends out the postcard then its an indication that your application is being processed, and the acceptance letter is just a week or so away. So stay positive:)
TechRx 04-09-2007, 09:58 PM Thank you busypharmcgal.

Congrats again! Are you going to Howard kikidun21? You're right about getting in touch with them. I have a lot of questions for Howard too, maybe we can answer each other's questions!
busypharmcgal, I think it's a good sign, so hang in there. I know that acceptance letter is coming
For those of you that got accepted: the labtop cost how much? lol

Yes, I do plan on going to Howard. I am somewhat in the same position as you are. I have only been to the Washington area once and that was for the interview.
The laptop cost is ridiculous. Imagine buying a $800 - $1000 laptop for $2500. It's good business for Howard, but a bad investment for us
I got that postcard over 10 days ago and nothing yet from them..called them multiple times to get the generic response of "still in the process" ..its been almost three months since the interview...I should be able to know now!
pharmDorbust 04-10-2007, 03:10 PM Okay, It appears that about four applicant or so have gotten accepted from the Jan interview cycle. If that's the case then I love my chances. I interviewed in March, but a good amount of the students from the Jan cycle have decided to go to other schools because Howard took too long to make a decision. The fact that they were still interviewing last month means that they dont have their class of 2011 as yet.
I love my chances and I believe the rest of us still waiting should too.
rx22 and busypharmcgal you guys got the magic postcard, that's more than the most of us. I believe that the two of you will be joining the other Jan interviewees accepted.
And Congrats to TechRx, jshelzz, kikidun21 and pursueYRDream. I hope to see you guys in a couple of months :D
alkali123 04-10-2007, 04:54 PM ^^^ good way of looking at it! I was getting nervous cuz my interview was in march as well.. hopefully we will know soon!!!!!! Atleast by the end of the month!! <crossing fingers>
TechRx 04-11-2007, 10:10 AM Thank you for the congrats! I know they didn't look at the March interviewees yet, so yes you are right about hope!
Let me know if anybody got any other documents such as calendar events, out-of-state tuition cost, etc. Thank you in advance!
ADN1226 04-11-2007, 03:13 PM I hope you guys are right -- the way it looks, the march interviews won't hear from them until the end of may!! :( waiting sucks.
daoismz 04-11-2007, 03:58 PM Hey, I just got my acceptance (which I kinda expected; I was overconfident leaving my interview). Howard sent me a regular size envelope in a big FedEx envelope.
Stats are just okay: 3.01 overall, 2.78 science.
But I'm going to Shenandoah instead. Enjoy my spot.
daoismz 04-11-2007, 03:58 PM BTW, I was from the January interview

OOhhh Boyy....u just gave me the greatest boost of hope.....awesome!! did you have a lot of pharmacy experience too?? Men congrats to you....I know you deserve it...you probably worked really hard to get into shenandoah....
ADN1226 04-11-2007, 06:19 PM Thanks for the info daoismz - good luck at shenandoah! I didn't feel so confident after the interview- my interviewer wasn't very nice. But we will see...
RX CARE 04-11-2007, 07:08 PM Thanks for the info daoismz - good luck at shenandoah! I didn't feel so confident after the interview- my interviewer wasn't very nice. But we will see...
Was it Dr. Kumar, the indian dude??
Thanks for the info daoismz - good luck at shenandoah! I didn't feel so confident after the interview- my interviewer wasn't very nice. But we will see...
I had a mean interviewer too! all she did was stare me down while i was talking without nodding her head or smiling even once.. i was scared...
ADN1226 04-11-2007, 07:49 PM No i had someone else, I think Dr. Akala. I felt bad since it was hard to understand his questions with his very thick accent so I had to ask him to repeat it. But he questioned everything I said, as if I was lying to him. I guess people do lie about things during the interview? I couldn't believe he actually asked me what "oncology" meant since I said I wanted to specialize in oncology. I was thinking, is he kidding me?! I answered him and mentioned I conduct cancer research in melanoma and he's like... "oh really!" as if he didn't believe me. So of course I proved myself my explaining my project but who knows if he even believes that.
daoismz 04-12-2007, 12:16 AM I forgot the name of my interviewer. I know she was an Asian lady and my interview was in her office (not where the main pharmacy classes are taught). She just read the questions from her page and took notes on what I said. But I knew I did well because we ended up having a conversation after every question I answered. She barely had any time to ask me to allow me to ask questions.
I had some volunteer experience: enough so that I could explain some experiences and things that I observed in the pharmacy itself (not observing the pharmacist, cuz I wasn't allowed to: hospital policy). I had absolutely no experience handling medication and I believe they don't expect you to. They just want you to have any experience, so you have an inkling of what it would be like working IN A PHARMACY.
It's good to know the responsibility of a pharmacist is though, and to know several different types of pharmacist.
alkali123 04-12-2007, 04:06 PM I hope you guys are right -- the way it looks, the march interviews won't hear from them until the end of may!! :( waiting sucks.
I REALLY hope that won't be the case--hearing back until may:scared:.. a friend of mine who goes to Howard U Pharm school said it is a long process and they are very disorganized... lets not talk about their interview process.. haha:eek:
IVtech 04-12-2007, 06:58 PM My interview was on Mar. 14. I'm still waiting. Ms. Williams told us that we will get notified by end of Apr or beginning of May. Hang in there!!!

RX CARE 04-13-2007, 04:31 PM Oh BTW....did you get the letter today?? when was it dated...?
jshelzz 04-13-2007, 07:49 PM Hey, busypharmcgirl dont get discouraged, it has taken me three years to finally get into a pharmacy program. youll eventually get there.
busypharmcgal 04-14-2007, 12:09 PM I received the letter thursday, I called my mom to see if I had received anything in the mail on my way home from work..and she read it to me..
I don't remember the date, so I will look for it and let u kno the date it was sent out..
as for my stats, I had a 90 pcat, years of pharmacy experience and extracurriculars[tho not too much stuff this past year]..but my gpa is my weak area.. and i'm pretty sure is why i got denied.
feel free to pm me if u want to kno anything else..
thanks for the words of encouragement, and sharing your own stories by pm, or on here.. it really does help  ..
TechRx 04-14-2007, 01:25 PM I'm sorry to hear that also busypharmcgal. This is my 2nd time trying, and stats say that 75% of pharm students have applied more than once. Hope is still there, I know you won't give up. I hope you applied to other schools as well....if not, try it next time. Don't limit your options!

RX CARE 04-15-2007, 07:59 AM those who got accepted....how long did they give you to put in your deposit (deadline)??

ADN1226 04-17-2007, 06:18 PM nope :(
themorphinerule 04-17-2007, 09:10 PM Ms. C, are you in here? :) Okay, so Ms. C is my old store manager from Walgreens and I heard she got accepted into Howard. So if by some small chance you might actually know about this website and are in here, email me!!! I'm going to Wingate in NC. Oh and congrats to all you guys who got accepted. It's a wonderful thing.

Asharak 04-18-2007, 11:08 PM Anyone still waiting to hear back from the January interviews?
Anyone still waiting to hear back from the January interviews?
I am still waiting..

ADN1226 04-19-2007, 08:32 PM My interview was march 13th and I received the card today. big whoop. NOT.
alkali123 04-19-2007, 08:34 PM ohh.. well ull prolly know before i do..mine wasnt until 27th. is this ure first choice?
ADN1226 04-19-2007, 09:01 PM Nope first choice is VCU but havent heard from them either. they're slow too.
tytytamvn 04-20-2007, 08:05 AM I interviewed on Mar 27. Just got the post card. Good or bad news is on the way, I guess.
alkali123 04-20-2007, 02:39 PM no card recieved today.. what time was ure interview on 27th tytytamvn?
apple84 04-20-2007, 02:41 PM I have an question for those who heard something (accepted/rejection). Does anyone who is rejected receive the post card as well? I still have not received any card.
kikidun21 04-20-2007, 03:26 PM I have an question for those who heard something (accepted/rejection). Does anyone who is rejected receive the post card as well? I still have not received any card.
Someone received the post card and got rejected. However most of the applicant who received the card got accepted.
BTW today was the deadline for those accepted to send the good faith deposit. So by early next week Howard would know exactly how many seats are available. And start the process of sending out more acceptance letters.
Best of Luck to everyone who's still waiting :)
ADN1226 04-20-2007, 04:31 PM Thanks for the info. Was anyone accepted from other interview dates besides the jan interview?
apple84 04-21-2007, 03:34 PM There was no postcard today as well. This waiting is so painful!!
alkali123 04-21-2007, 03:43 PM me neither... ugh
ADN1226 04-21-2007, 08:14 PM A friend emailed howard and was told that my interview March 13th people won't hear until the end of April or early May --- so alkali... be patient? hehe.
alkali123 04-21-2007, 08:59 PM ..not cool. *sigh*
Azza29 04-22-2007, 07:19 AM I just wanted to join the conversation. I am attending howard in the fall, and I live in MD, not far from the school. So for the out of state students maybe I can answer some questions if I can. Sorry I don't have input in the waiting process, I applied early decision.
HINT: If you dont get in this fall, DONT give up and apply early decision in the fall for next year, the chances are better when u apply early decision.
alkali123 04-24-2007, 03:36 PM So I called Howard today, and they said we should be hearing back SOON and the latest would be early May.

I would like to know which areas are best to reside in. Also how far away from Howard are these areas and which mode of transportation is best.
ADN1226 04-24-2007, 05:54 PM I can't tell you much since i'm from NJ but I know the metro is the best way to commute to Howard. And it is best to live in the surrounding area - mainly maryland or virginia - its quite pricey though.
TechRx 04-25-2007, 12:36 PM How about Arlington Virginia? People have mentioned that town to me. Is it nice and reasonable? Is there a huge difference between Maryland and Virginia? :scared:
TechRx 04-25-2007, 12:39 PM Also, has anyone been approved for financial aid yet for Howard?
cjstallings 04-25-2007, 02:24 PM I know this was asked a few weeks ago, but I interviewed Jan 16th and still haven't heard anything, good or bad. Anyone else in the same boat?
Also, I recieved one of those postcards, but I am pretty sure it was because they recieved my fall grades, because the dates coincided.
Asharak 04-25-2007, 02:45 PM I intervied Jan. 17th and haven't heard anything either, rather frustrating.
ADN1226 04-25-2007, 03:10 PM WOW thats really late for those january interviews... as for housing look into these areas
Takoma Park, Silver Spring, Kensington, Bethesda,MD, Kalorama, Dupont Circle, Georgetown, Mclean, VA... I also heard Arlington is a great place to live too.
foraminal 04-25-2007, 04:08 PM WOW thats really late for those january interviews... as for housing look into these areas
Takoma Park, Silver Spring, Kensington, Bethesda,MD, Kalorama, Dupont Circle, Georgetown, Mclean, VA... I also heard Arlington is a great place to live too.
McLean and Bethesda - too $$$$ for students.
Georgetown - $$$$ and where do you plan to park your car? Take metro?
Dupont Circle - gay and lesbo neighborhood in DC.
Alexandria, Falls Church and Arlington are reasonable places to live. Some apartment complexes have free shuttle to metro station.
Springfield and toward the south of it - forget about it. Traffic nightmare. Although springfield has a metro station, the most southern station in VA, you still have to pay for parking.
If you plan to live in VA alone Route I66 you must have a hybrid, motocycle or 2 people inside a car. I66 leading into DC will be HOV-2 only starting at I495 during rush hour 6-9:30 am.
TechRx 04-25-2007, 09:17 PM I appreciate everybody giving their input on where to live. Thanks to all who pm me as well. Now, I have a better idea on where to go and I feel a little more confident. :D
PharmDY 04-26-2007, 02:43 AM I interviewed 3/27 and received a postcard. Whoever said most of those who received a postcard got accepted.. I'm really hoping that's the case for me. My first choice is UW but I haven't heard from them either... this is sooo nerve wrecking!
Stats:
3.48 GPA
Hospital pharmacy volunteer - 2 yrs
President of Pharmacy Club, former webmaster
Secretary & Online Chair of Colleges Against Cancer
Nutrition major
78 composite PCAT
Undergrad researcher in OChem - 1 qtr
Weakness: earned 0 units during my 2nd year in college (I still had 2 interviews, so don't give up!!)
ADN1226 04-26-2007, 08:38 AM Those are good stats pharmDY. Hmm.. i'm waiting too... :( Has anyone heard anything lately?
comet81 04-26-2007, 08:39 AM I still have not received the post card. My interview was 3/14. I called Ms. William yesterday and she told me to check my pharmCas. But, PharmCas has nothing in there.
ADN1226 04-26-2007, 10:17 AM What is it suppose to say in PharmCas... like acceptances and rejections??? Question to those accepted, can you guys check your PharmCas to see if it says anything in there?
comet81 04-26-2007, 02:09 PM What is it suppose to say in PharmCas... like acceptances and rejections??? Question to those accepted, can you guys check your PharmCas to see if it says anything in there?
What Cilia told me was that we can check if our file is complete on pharmcas. I did not bring one of my transcripts so I mailed it to Howard next day. So, I called Cilia to check if they have my transcript or not. Then, she told me to check PharmCas if my file is complete. I think that once you log in pharmcas, you have to go to supplemental section.
It seems like they have not reviewed my file yet because none of section (such as supplemental application, fee, transcripts) were checked. They are so slow!!
TechRx 04-26-2007, 02:28 PM What is it suppose to say in PharmCas... like acceptances and rejections??? Question to those accepted, can you guys check your PharmCas to see if it says anything in there?
Mines does not say if I was accepted or rejected. It does show however, that they received all of my materials including transcripts during the interview.
ADN1226 04-26-2007, 08:09 PM Hmm... kelly, my PharmCAS also doesnt say if they've received my transcripts and I brought mine to the interview.
comet81 04-26-2007, 09:04 PM Hmm... kelly, my PharmCAS also doesnt say if they've received my transcripts and I brought mine to the interview.
After I checked pharmcas, I called Cilia many times but she was not there every time I called her. I even left several messages and she never returned my calls. As long as you two received postcard, you don't need to worry about it. The postcard simply means that your applications are complete.
PharmDY 04-26-2007, 11:36 PM Hmm... kelly, my PharmCAS also doesnt say if they've received my transcripts and I brought mine to the interview.
I guess I didn't read the interview email carefully so I did not bring my transcripts to the interview. They allowed me to send it in by mail and now it shows on PharmCAS. Maybe admissions didn't transfer that information on PharmCAS because they took note of it in their clipboard? (At least when I got there, that's what they used to track everyone's transcripts.)
RX CARE 04-27-2007, 12:22 PM I got In !!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D :D I just received the acceptance letter via FEDEX !!!! I am soooooo happpy. Finally I will have a worry-free summer..

dreamscometrue 04-27-2007, 02:36 PM my interview was on march 14th. I received the postcard stating that my file is complete. Hopefully we should be hearing from them soon. One last question....if you get a postcard does that mean they are going to send an acceptance letter soon?
ADN1226 04-27-2007, 04:03 PM Nope. apparently they send that to all their interviewees.
So I guess they're still looking at their jan interviews?!
RX CARE 04-27-2007, 08:10 PM congratulations!!!!!!!!! :)
Thx menn.
I interviewed on jan 17th, and I am speculating that if u were interviewed in january and haven't heard anything, then you are on some kind of "office use only" waitlist. I say this because I was given only a week to pay the deposit, and the acceptance letter tells you to make your decision quickly, out of fairness to waitlisted students. So you still have a shot......and good luck. Hope to see everybody next fall...
ADN1226 04-27-2007, 08:59 PM Do you think they've filled their seat with the January interviews? I dont think anyone from the March interviews have heard. Does anyone know if they had interviews in feb?
alkali123 04-28-2007, 03:34 PM i didnt see any postings in the interview feedback for february... so maybe there wasn't any in february or people who were do not go on SDN.
PharmDY 04-29-2007, 10:29 AM To my knowledge, they've only had 2 interview times. One was 1/16 & 1/17, and the other was 3/27 & 3/28. I say this because I was invited to the Jan interviews but I decilned because it was in the middle of the week, meaning I had to miss 3 days of school since I live in California.
cherryblo 04-29-2007, 12:59 PM I interviewed on 3/8
ADN1226 04-29-2007, 01:02 PM So i'm guessing they had interviews on jan 16, 17, march 8, 9? march 13, 14, then march 27th and 28th? I hope theres still a lot of seats left...
I have yet to receive a response from them..and i interviewed on jan 17th..
comet81 04-29-2007, 07:39 PM Does anyone who did not receive postcard actually got accepted? I still have not received the postcard and that makes me frustrated.
comet81 04-29-2007, 07:39 PM Sorry for double posting

I thought u got into midwestern CCP.......c'mon dude.....other ppl have it worse, being waitlisted and rejected. I think it's a little shallow or selfish for u to be frustrated when u have at least one acceptance..:)
ADN1226 04-30-2007, 09:55 AM Its true comet81 has a back up plan but she does really want to go to howard since its close to her family.
PharmDY 04-30-2007, 10:11 AM I wonder how long it'll take Howard to get to the 3/27 interviews. I had my heart set on UW but now that I didn't receive an offer from them, Howard's all I got and this wait is excruciating. If someone receives anything, please post in this thread!! Thanks! & good luck everyone!

As ADN said, I really like to stay close to my family and my state. Since all PharmD. Degree is same, it does not matter whrer I get it from.

apple84 05-01-2007, 11:47 AM Does anyone who did not receive postcard actually got accepted? I still have not received the postcard and that makes me frustrated.
It seems like it.
apple84 05-01-2007, 11:52 AM I was able to talk to Ms. William-Foulke and I was very shocked by what she said to me. I mentioned her about the postcard that everyone is talking about but she doesn't even know anything about postcard!!!!!
She then told me that they have not decided anything about March interviews. After I hung up, I realized that I forgot to ask her how long we should wait. So, I called her right away but she did not pick up. I am soooo sick of their laziness, disorganization, and rudeness!!
PharmDY 05-01-2007, 12:08 PM I called them today also. Mrs. Sconion seemed to have contradicted with what above said about March interviews. I told her I interviewed late March and asked if she has information regarding acceptances, she seemed very exhausted in her response (probably because she's been getting a lot calls lately) and said letters are being sent out as we speak in regards to all applicants who've received an interview. I asked her if all the letters are actually sent out and she says no, there are more letters to send and are on their way. Good luck everyone!
Asharak 05-01-2007, 02:35 PM I was going to call them as well today, but will now and wait and see if they are sending out letters today like they said. Just frustrating to not hear anything this long after they told us in January when we would hear from them.

This has been explained several times and you guys don't seem to get it. Now I cannot explain why some ppl have not received postcards, there prob is some weird reason. The card was mailed from the main admissions office to EVERY APPLICANT WITH A COMPLETED FILE REGARDLESS OF THE PROGRAM APPLIED TO. It was NOT mailed from the school of pharmacy (so it is not surprising that ms williams would not know...it's not her job....it's not even in her office). I am giving you the exact information I was given when I sent an email to the address on the card. Are they lazy and disorganized??..maybe to some extent....they have a lot on their hands...but try to pay attention to detail. The postcard is VERY generic and I believe it has NOTHING to do with admission decisions. I think you guys should stop sweating about that postcard.
PS; I know somebody who got in and has no idea about the postcard....but who knows...maybe she never checks her mail...or the boogeyman ate it!
I am very very disappointed with Howard.. I guess whats said about this school is true, they are very lazy and disorganized as said by someone here.. after interviewing in Jan..this is May 1st.. and I still have a clue of what my status is.. that is just bad.. It almost will be 4 months since I interviewed..I mean how hard is it to atleast tell an applicant if they are even on the waiting list? I am sure it doesnt take them this long... it doesnt take any other school this long..

I think it is very suprising that ms williasm would not know about the card. We did not fill out general application but aplication for pharmacy school. Also, she takes care of our admission materials. She should know.
PharmDY 05-01-2007, 07:57 PM There is one possible explanation to the postcard.. maybe. It's my most educated guess: Perhaps pharmacy committee has sent to the main admissions information (mailing address) on the candidates who the comittee has accepted but is lagging to send the offer letters out. This can explain why people who get the postcard get accepted (theoretically if that was true). But of course this is all my guess.

That will not be the case, because somebody on this forum got a letter of denial after receiving the postcard. Don't want to state their sn for sensitivity but check the first page of this thread.
jojo99 05-01-2007, 10:21 PM i got the postcard like 3 weeks ago, interviewed in march and am stressing and checking hte mailbox every day..hopefully i get good news soon and that the postcard is good luck:)...btw does anyone know how they do interview scores like i know its normally 1 to 5 but what style do they use like is 1 the highest (cause some professors told me that at times that is the highest)...
PharmDY 05-02-2007, 04:06 AM I think it's out of 14, if I heard correctly during the day of the interview. Interview is out of 14, essay is out of 14, and math test is out of 14. Anyone know for sure?

I guess a part of me was hoping my guess was legit because I received the postcard awhile back and sadly, Howard is the only school left I can hear good news from. :o
PharmDY 05-02-2007, 12:40 PM As I posted before, Howard's sending out letters as we speak. I had forgotten to ask them how long it'll take for them to finish sending these letters, so I called and I spoke with Celia just now. She told me that they are sending letters out to everyone (including March interviews) and they "hope" they will get all the letters sent out by the end of this month.
Talk about late? And they're not even sure they'll get back to everyone by the end of this month? :(
jojo99 05-02-2007, 02:11 PM well all we can do is be optimistic and hopefully get an acceptance letter in the mail soon...all ive heard from howard since the interview was the postcard saying its completed and it says that on the pharmcas too.

da---realist 05-03-2007, 06:31 PM Hello all:
I am a current Howard student, and I can understand everyones stress, anxiety and concern about waiting for letters. I was in the same situation a year ago sitting and waiting for a letter. A took a while, but it finally came (1.5 months after interview). What you all must understand is that Administration is understaffed. There is 1 person who is in charge of sending letters out to potential students, answering calls, questions, etc. Since it is only 1 person doing all this it is easy to see why things are taking SOOOOOOOO long.
Howard is only taking between 60-70 students for the fall, so they are trying to make sure that they make good selections. Continue to try and be patient and I hope everything works out. Feel free to PM me with questions.
For those who have been accepted and have questions on where to live or about Howard in general, feel free to pm me also.
dstormz 05-03-2007, 11:20 PM sigh... I interviewed late March, too. I kinda bombed my interview. Furthemore, I'm ranked 41 at Minnesota. :(
I understand what kind of position you guys are in. Hang in there, ok.
Wishing you guys the best of luck.
jojo99 05-04-2007, 05:04 PM yeah i feel ur pain...im awaiting anxiously, everyday i make trips to the mailbox or call home to see if its in yet...:(....btw does anyone know like how the interview scores are done...its like 1-5 for each question but what is the highest 1 or 5? Also, has anyone who interviewed in march hear anything yet...all ive gotten so far was a postcard after the interview like 3 weeks ago saying they got everything and on pharmcas it mentions the dates they got the supp fee and everything.
ADN1226 05-04-2007, 06:20 PM same here jojo. I interviewed march 13th.
jojo99 05-05-2007, 12:45 PM i had another question how many people do they think they are gonna waitlist and if one is on waitlist how good are their chances to get in?
ADN1226 05-05-2007, 01:39 PM Looking at last year, it doesnt seem like they took in many of those waitlisted.
alkali123 05-05-2007, 08:00 PM still waiting here..
jojo99 05-05-2007, 08:21 PM ADN what were the stats last year?
ADN1226 05-05-2007, 09:57 PM I didn't apply to howard last year. I'm just saying looking at the posts from last year, it didn't seem like anyone got in from being waitlisted.
jojo99 05-06-2007, 07:30 AM well reading last years posts...they were interviewing people until the summer..
jojo99 05-07-2007, 01:51 PM any updates...did anyone hear back yet??
jojo7 05-07-2007, 03:56 PM did anyone receive an email regarding waitlisted candidates? i received a general, very vague email about waitlisted candidates...but i dont know if that means i am waitlisted or if it is a general email. please let me know if anyone else got that email. thanks!
jojo99 05-07-2007, 04:14 PM check the howard waitlisted topic, there are 2 other people that have got that email so far....have u heard from anywehre else yet?
jojo7 05-07-2007, 04:17 PM can you send me the link to that waitlist forum please? no i haven't heard from anything else. so does it mean i am waitlisted in case i don't find the forum
jojo99 05-07-2007, 04:32 PM yeah ur waitlisted
http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=398388
jojo7 05-07-2007, 04:43 PM thanks jojo99! are you waitlisted too?
PharmDY 05-07-2007, 06:27 PM I received the email that is directed to waitlisted candidates, but I never received anything by actual mail. I sent an email to Celia asking if it means I'm waitlisted, but all she said was that most of the letters have already been sent out. Has anyone received the email but have already received actual mail stating they're accepted/rejected?
RX CARE 05-08-2007, 01:04 AM Somehow it seems like howard pharmacy is not showing much love to SDNers. But the dental forum is teeming with HUCD class of 2011. Whazzup with that??:(
Well I wish you guys still waiting the best:luck: I really wish there was more of us
comet81 05-08-2007, 08:48 PM I spoke to a lady at admission office and she told me that they have not completed deciding with March interviews. I also asked her when we would hear our decision and she told me that we will be heard by the end of this month!!
ADN1226 05-08-2007, 09:00 PM I wonder if the leftovers are the accepted/rejected pile.
Asharak 05-08-2007, 09:19 PM Nothing against those who interviewed in march, but would be nice if all the January people had heard something by now other than they are still working on them.
comet81 05-08-2007, 10:22 PM Nothing against those who interviewed in march, but would be nice if all the January people had heard something by now other than they are still working on them.
As you said, those who interviewed in Jan. should be heard something first. It's just not fair for us to wait more than one month. We are not even waitlisted. It is very unusual. I applied more than 10 schools for two years and none of the schools put us wait more than one month except waitlist.
By the way, based on my memory last year, Howard send rejection letter before waitlist letter. So, stay positive. :D
alkali123 05-10-2007, 07:41 AM anyone heard anything yet??
PharmDY 05-10-2007, 10:22 AM Earlier this week I received an email regarding waitlisted candidates but I didn't receive any mail telling me that. 2 days ago I found out they had sent an official waitlist letter to my permanent address. It doesn't say what rank I am on the waitlist. I'll be calling Celia later today to ask if she can disclose that information to me over the phone. I'm not sure if I will keep waiting for Howard... I plan to reapply through PharmCAS as early as June 1. I don't want to risk not getting in from the waitlist and applying late. Once I submit my PharmCAS application I will call and ask that they take me off their waitlist. Good luck everyone!
comet81 05-10-2007, 02:22 PM anyone heard anything yet??
Nope, no postcard, no waitlist e-mail, no waitlist letter, no acceptance letter, no rejection letter....
PharmDY 05-10-2007, 02:34 PM So I got ahold of Mrs. Sconion earlier and she refused to answer any of my waitlist questions because the school cannot disclose such information, such as how many were on waitlist last year and about how many of them were pulled out of it, how many are on the waitlist now, how many students are going to be accepted this year, etc. She did tell me that the waitlist is not ranked, and whenever the committee needs to pull someone off from it they have a closed meeting to discuss who should be pulled, and she cannot tell me what criteria they look at either.
alkali123 05-10-2007, 03:37 PM Nope, no postcard, no waitlist e-mail, no waitlist letter, no acceptance letter, no rejection letter....

You still can apply PharmCas even though you are waitlisted at Howard. If you really want to go to Howard, apply there as an early decision. I heard all people who applied as an early decision got accepted this year. But, early decision is kinda risky because you cannot apply other school until November or later.

That's odd, because either Celia or Ms. Sconion always picks up my call.. I would suggest calling before noon. I always call at around 10-11am (DC time) and they always pick up. But it's kind of useless calling them because they never answer my questions anyway. They always say "we can't disclose such matter over the phone" and "we're sending all our letters out as we speak" etc etc. Good luck.. I'm on the waitlist but they said they can contact us up until Aug. 23rd. I guess we can guarantee that we'll hear from them by Aug. 23rd at the latest.

I call and just keep waiting until someone picks up. Usually I don't get a machine, so I wait and wait, and the longer it rings, apparently it gets annoying so they pick up :o

Thanks

Have you been receiving waitlist emails? I interviewed on the 27th also, and 3 weeks ago I received their waitlist letter and email. I heard that the committee hasn't made all of their final decisions for march interviews yet, but that was 2 weeks ago. Maybe you can ask Ms. Williams to re-send your letter as it could've gotten lost through the mail?
PharmDY 06-01-2007, 11:37 PM anyone here get pulled from the waitlist yet?
jojo99 06-06-2007, 12:00 PM Anything new guys???? Has anyone got in?
YoungEel 06-06-2007, 07:03 PM Not to change from the latest topic. But i will be at Howard in the fall. I have lived in the DC/MD/VA area off and on for the past few years and know pretty much where to live. I will be looking for somewhere to live in July. If anyone is interested in finding a place with a roommate, give me a holler.
jojo99 06-07-2007, 08:18 AM youngel...u got into the pharmacy program..ur so lucky!! congrats!
YoungEel 06-08-2007, 12:08 PM Thanks. I applied right after early decision was over.

If you don't mind me asking.

Trackster 06-08-2007, 12:31 PM Thanks. I applied right after early decision was over.
Sorry,I am really tired because I just got back from volunteering. I was able to digest what you wrote that you applied right after early decision.
Pls disregard all the junks I wrote earlier. Congrat ones again
YoungEel 06-08-2007, 06:49 PM It's fine..
My stats..I have a 3.0, 80th %tile PCAT. Little pharmacy experience, but a lot of lab experience. I played football at Mississippi State University and started out as a chemistry major. I graduated with a degree in Information Systems in 2002. I worked in the IT field in DC/MD for three years. My last contract before i started studying for the PCAT(I studied full time for about three months. I had to pretty much re-learn everything from 4 and 5 years prior.) was working on THE Health Care System for the US Military. The company i contracted for (Northrop Grumman) created it. I believe i applied in early November and got a call for an interview in early January. My interview was Jan 17th. If anyone else was there, they may have seen me. Kinda hard to miss at 6'5. But i used the angle that i wasn't the traditional pharmacy candidate. I have some pretty good people skills with a good science, and of course, a great technical background. I initially started school in hopes of going to med school, but i got caught up in the "program" of being a football player. I knew that I wanted to go back to the health care field even before i finished by bachelor's. Right after i graduated from school I started to take more science courses for pharmacy school, but i was itching for money and decided to do IT for a while. I got back on the right path finally. If anyone has any questions, ask away.
jojo7 06-15-2007, 05:31 PM anything new guys?
chakavak 06-15-2007, 10:34 PM Hey, I just got my acceptance (which I kinda expected; I was overconfident leaving my interview). Howard sent me a regular size envelope in a big FedEx envelope.
Stats are just okay: 3.01 overall, 2.78 science.
But I'm going to Shenandoah instead. Enjoy my spot.
Hi, Can I ask what was your PCAT score?
Trackster 06-16-2007, 01:00 AM It's fine..
Hey youngEel,
What'z up, we kind of have some things in common man. I ran track for UT
El paso and started out with Kinesiology until about 2yrs ago that I decided to start on this route. My dad is a pharmacist in my home country though but I don't wanna write anything that will make it look like its because of pressure from him or members of my family.
My stats are 3.8 prereq GPA and 73%tile but because I'm a foreign student,I have to apply early if that will help.
But in any case,If you can still stick around so if I have any further questions regarding Howard, the interview, I can always ask someone like you
Congrats once again
jojo99 06-16-2007, 11:36 AM It seems like they've accepted people from teh ones interviewed in January..Are they either just rejecting or putting those they interviewed in march on the waitlist?
jojo99 06-26-2007, 02:20 PM Anything new from Howard guys?
jojo7 06-27-2007, 01:21 PM Hey JoJo99. I sent you a message, I don't know if you received it. Have you heard anything from them yet? Are you on the waitlist?
chem123 06-27-2007, 10:12 PM this is ridiculous!, you have to wait that long to get a response, what if you dont get in, you need a back up plan. this is very unfair for students!!!!
Louisiana Girl 07-01-2007, 12:47 PM Does anyone know if Howard looks at your entire GPA or on the required courses for their program?
daoismz 07-01-2007, 01:30 PM Hey everyone, I just wanted to let everyone on the waitlist know that I will be writing a letter and sending it to Howard to giving up my spot. I am going to Shenandoah so someone could take my acceptance and go to Howard.
My stats (when applying): OGPA (2.98), PCAT (87, only took one time). Went 3 yrs to CC & 3 yrs to UCSD
pharmdog 07-01-2007, 07:37 PM Do you think that it is very possible to get accepted to pharmacy school doing the prerequisites at a community college or is it way to hard to get in then. I was thinking of going to UIC since I live in Chicago.
Thanks
20pharm08 07-01-2007, 08:40 PM I'm applying to Howard for Fall 2008. I have a 3.86 gpa, 70% PCAT score, pharmacy experience, and will have my BS in biology/chem next spring. Will this be competitive enough for Howard or should I just quit will I'm ahead?

Sorry men....It's cool of your good intentions and everything. I don't mean to be disrespectful, but I think you are so full of sh*t! You said you had already done that. That was since April. I remember because even I hadn't gotten my acceptance letter then, and you said you had ALREADY given up your spot, and I was hoping it was good chances for me. You come and post in July that it is now that you are giving up your spot. It's nice and generous to keep ppl informed, but not informed about bullsh*t. You either tell people the truth or you don't. Nobody will eat you. And the worst bullsh*t you ever told was around March when you posted that you got into howard, during your little "hope to ppl with low stats advice", meanwhile howard hadn't sent out even a single acceptance letter. Then later in April, when you got the actual acceptance letter, you posted again, saying you just received your acceptance letter into howard "as expected" in the mail. Apparently you had lied so much you began lying even to yourself, not realizing that you had already posted that you got in. Dude.....some ppl who want to get in bad read this forum and follow it in detail. When u write sh*t, ppl take a note of who u are and what u have said. Stop bullsh*ting ppl. I'm sorry, but I come from a place where when we hear BS, we call your ***** out!
daoismz 07-05-2007, 01:08 PM *sigh*...I really don't know what to say. You pretty much backed up my intentions when you said that I just wanted to keep pplz informed. I haven't read this thread in a while and when I checked up on it, I saw that pplz were talking about waitlist so I just repeated to everyone that I did give up my spot. Yes, I repeated myself. If anything, I was arrogant in the beginning and posted my acceptance a little quick (i was that confident about it).
Bad? Yea, but i don't know how to remove a post so I was stuck with that thought for a while. But if you believe that my first "hopes...." post was BS, then don't read it, don't advertise it by bringing it up. Because if telling my low stats and saying I was able to get in is so BS for pplz to believe, I would be getting a lot more hate-post than only one you sent me. The fact is, there are a LOT of pplz with low stats, stupid me included, and they come onto this website finding more ways to help them get into this career. If I got in, I had to at least tell everyone what I did to give back a little.
Obviously, this rant between us isn't help anyone at all. If you want to jump me or call me out (which I think u already did), I'll be in Virginia studying come August. Do what you want.
Sorry for everyone who has to read this. Some pplz just can't handle waiting as well as others (yea, that was to you, RX).
I'm not gonna post any replies to this issue. Not gonna hassle pplz about this.

The respect I have for you is totally preserved, that is why I mentioned it the first thing. Yea u got into howard and shenandoah, and I am not disputing that. I have a problem with the fact that you post misleading and contradicting information........or maybe you are just not expressing your ideas the right way in the correct grammatical sense. Just to cite u one more example; You just said u were merely repeating the fact that you DID give up ur spot....but just 3 posts ago, u said u WILL BE giving up ur spot. Any normal english reader will think the way I am thinking. It's no hard feeling against u or anything...I'm sure u worked hard for what u've earned, and your advice is golden. But at the end of the day, this is an informative forum, and people do not take lightly to the fact when they get misled with information, and any user on this forum will agree with me. That's all i'm trying to point out.
daoismz 07-06-2007, 04:18 AM point taken...i will be more careful in how I phrase my posts. And just for reply to you again, I again have contradicted my previous post of not reply to a post...
jojo99 07-07-2007, 09:19 AM so are the only people accepted so far...are they from the january intervieweee list or where there any of those interviewed in march that were accepted too???? this waiting is really nerve racking as theres no update in the past 2 months:(
futurerx212 07-07-2007, 11:28 PM hey, im applying to howard this year. care to share your stats and any advice? thanks!! :)
jojo7 07-12-2007, 10:54 AM Ok for everyone who is reading this (whether you are a member or not) please respond to this. There are so many people asking for advice on applying this year. The problem is no one on this forum knows what their own status is. A lot of us are waiting for a response. It is very sad that we are still waiting and it is now July. Since we cannot get through to the admisisons office via phone, why don't we all figure this out on our own. Here is what I mean. If everyone can post their status (keep in mind no one knows who you are so you don't have to feel shy about this) then we will be able to get an idea of what they are doing.
Who has been accepted from January interviews?
Who is waitlisting from January interviews?
Who has been acceted from March interviews?
Who is waitlisting from March interviews?
Who has no answer (and which interview did you go to)?
My theory is they have accepted/rejected everyone from January interviews. I just don't know what's happening to the March people. Please respond if possible. Thanks!!!!
jojo99 07-12-2007, 12:28 PM yeah that is a good idea.
nostalgia82 07-14-2007, 01:47 PM Hello All!
I will be attending HU in the fall. Got my acceptance letter in May via Fed Ex. I interviewed in mid March. Was just checking back to check the posts and some of them are "interesting" to say the least. To all that did get in-congrats and see you in August! To those who didn't-keep your head up and my advice is get lots of experience. If you are excited about the world of pharmacy, even if your stats aren't the greatest, you will get in.

jojo7 09-01-2007, 09:47 PM Did Anyone Get An Official Rejection Letter After Being Waitlisted At Howard? Thanks!
PharmDY 09-12-2007, 12:26 PM I received a rejection letter dated Aug 27, and I was waitlisted from late-March interviews.
busypharmcgal 09-19-2007, 01:57 AM a loong time after my Jan interview, first I received a rejection letter... but later received a notice that I was waitlisted..

Donniecash 10-23-2007, 11:34 PM I received a rejection letter dated Aug 27, and I was waitlisted from late-March interviews.
that makes me like scared. i read like the whole delimma u went through over a month, and i would think howard would be cheese cake for u.. i mean ur EC is phenominal and ur gpa is above par. I dont see how in the world u weren't accepted on the spot.. this major scares me, i think im gonna start a pharmacy club at my school and become president of it. i dont think i have time to manage as much volunteer and work time as some of the ppl ive read about. i just hope its not impossible to get into pharmacy school haha so ill find anything to make me stick out.
