From wikipedia.org Decan 05-21-2007, 10:29 PM I agree w/ lor...progesterone is secreted by corpus luteum in response to LH levels. Wikipedia isnt always right. Regards, Decan lor 05-21-2007, 10:38 PM Progesterone is produced in the adrenal glands, the gonads (specifically after ovulation in the corpus luteum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corpus_luteum)), the brain, and, during pregnancy, in the placenta (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Placenta). From wikipedia.org just be aware that this site is not always right, double check good luck poc91nc 05-21-2007, 10:42 PM dantheman is right. Just to double check...I'm looking at my anatomy and physiology book and it's true. pg563 of Anatomy and Physiology 2nd edition by Elaine Marieb The actual amount of sex hormones produced by the adrenal cortex are minimal...but it is true. That fact is one of the first things I hammered into my head. Seemed like a good way to set up a trap question because so many people think of sex hormones being associated only with the gonads. poc91nc 05-21-2007, 10:44 PM I'm looking at campbells as well...and they say it's right as well. If I recall correctly lors...I believe that statement of fact was stated in the kaplan book as well. poc91nc 05-21-2007, 10:55 PM progestrone and estrogens are synthesized and secreted by OVARIES. these two hormones are regulated by LH and FSH which is regulated by GNRH, they are both steroid hormones know your menstrual cycle good luck to you all Isn't the bulk of the adrenal cortex secretions steroid hormones??? glucocorticoids mineralocorticoids gonadocorticoids (sex homrones): mostly testosterone and small amounts of ESTROGEN AND PROGESTERONE denttiger 05-21-2007, 11:08 PM sounds correct to me poc91nc. dantheman2007 05-22-2007, 10:49 AM Isn't the bulk of the adrenal cortex secretions steroid hormones??? glucocorticoids mineralocorticoids gonadocorticoids (sex homrones): mostly testosterone and small amounts of ESTROGEN AND PROGESTERONE Yes, and kaplan writes just that. Their isn't only one site of production. In terms of the DAT knowing only one site may hurt you. Better to know all there is about these gonadocorticoids. best, dan |
