You can't compare your savings with Dr.Ro's help. Hope you get it straight from Orgoman! (Used ones won't have updates)

There is a time for being stingy w/ your money....don't be stingy w/ your DAT prep material. Besides...w/ the asking price of most people selling their Destroyers...I don't really see how you're going to save much.

hello guys,

I just need to study the Gchem and Biology for Canadian DAT and plus I scored 21 on Biology and 23 on Gchem for my last Canadian DAT, so I figure spending $160 is not really reasonable for me to prepare for theses two section.

I really dont understand why so many people are urging others to buy the destroyer new. Assuming that most of us are college students it shouldn't be too hard to ask a professor at your college (if you're stuck on a problem in destroyer) instead of calling the author of the book. I don't know about your college but none of the professors in my college would mind if you'd ask them questions even if you were not enrolled in their class (this includes email, phone, and office hours).

Yea but the problem is not about asking for help of how to do the problems...The whole point of getting this book new is that you get the updates, and those updates is what you need...So if you want to buy a used book for cheaper, and then pay for the updates...its ur choice...good luck....

If if came down to purchasing a used book that was 8 years old, I might think twice bout purchasing it because there are some things that have been revised. But I wouldn't hesitate using a book that was a couple years old. All the main points will be covered. The new changes will be insignificant unless for some reason the DAT changes it format at some point. At that point, I would want to purchase it new. They sell new versious each year to just to make more money.

Really? I went to uw as well...most of the professors I've encountered weren't the most friendly.

Anyways, I used the Destroyer extensively for my studies and I'd have to say getting the updates were very important. Especially for the biology. The newer problems seem to give you an extra edge.

PS: If you took Bio at UW...you may have to do a lot of extra studying in this area (specifically, in areas of systematics, evolution, ecology, and animal physiology). The bio department has tweaked the bio sequence so much that it varies a lot from the material you will encounter on the DAT. However, in all fairness, Bio 200 seems to prepare you well for most of the stuff you will encounter in areas of cell biology.

Biochm 440-442 sequence was very helpful for the DAT.

Good luck w/ your studies!

You'd be crazy to spend $150 when you could spend $100 or less. Who needs help from the Orgoman? The explanations are good enough and if you REALLY don't understand a question you are just dying to know, don't you have anyone in your social circle or at your school that could help you? I'm sure a personal explanation from a favourtie professor would be much better than a phone conversation with this godly Dr. Romano.

Furthermore, you should know principles, not problems. So if you don't understand a very specific question or the multiple choice answers, that shouldn't be a problem given that you understand the general principles.

And who needs updates? What updates have they done to the mechanism of an Aldol condensation in the last months or years? What changes have been made to the classifications of species? None. Updates shmupdates.
