So I finally took the test yesterday after studying for two months and I have to say that I am a little dissapointed with my scores...I got a bunch of random ass questions, here are my scores.

PA 18
QR 15 -SERIOUSLY RAN OUT OF TIME
RC 21
BIO 20
GC 22
OC 20
TS 20
AA 20

I would love to hear any thoughts on my scores to see what you all think my chances are. This is my second time around applying, I have a 3.14 gpa from the university of north carolina, bio major chem minor, quite a bit of shadow experience....any thoughts would be great. Thanks

I think the DAT is pretty solid, especially RC, but honestly I think you need higher than this given your GPA, which is low. I would have said something like 22-23 for a 3.14, but I could be wrong.

Good job! You are in. Those are great scores, you should be proud. Much better to have a low score in QR than in other sections I think.

My main resource was destroyer...i used that for the majority of my studying. Usually I would use topscore to take practice tests being that you actually get a score when you are finished. The only other resource I used was some kaplan practice tests that I was able to obtain from somone on here last year. And of course I used my books from my classes in conjunction.

I was hopeing for a little better score. This was my second time around and I went up on everything except for RC , PA and QR. Im not sure if UNC will take that into account.

Anyways, as far as stuff i was asked, like everyone says, chem is very conceptual and straight forward and so is organic chem. I thought I would be really set on bio but I ended up getting the most random questions, I dont think I had one question that mirrored any question I studied. I think I got screwed in that aspect. Do you guys think I should retake one more time?

My QR score is so low because halfway through I had to piss sooooo bad I couuldnt think straight and ended up with seven questions left and about 30 seconds. Oh well thats life i guess.

When did you submit your application last year?

blcws6
08-14-2007, 12:54 PM
late august, early sept...i cant remember exactly. Dr. Guckes, the dean at unc told me to have mine in by august 15 when i asked him this time around so i have already submitted my application this time around. I have not yet submitted the supplemental though

anybody else have any thoughts on my chances or what else i may do to improve my chances

Good job on the DAT, I'm sure UNC will like those scores a lot. Get that supplemental into UNC soon, I'm a reapplicant as well (i interviewed at UNC too) and I was told to get it in ASAP esp if you have slightly lower stats for them. Even though the first interview in Sept is mostly for out of state people, spots for the Oct interview (mostly in state) fill up pretty fast according to them. I interviewed in the Nov last year and I was told that most people accepted first round in Dec will come from the first 2 interviews dates. That's just because the interviewers already have people in mind when they go into that meeting. I didn't know anyone from my interview day that got in either. good luck!

First, congrats on being done! i think you have a better chance this cycle because so far it looks like it might not be as bad the last one.

Again, congrats, your score is solid!

Hey i wouldnt worry if I were you. Those scores are terrific! i would love to have them...yea QR is low but not many schools care about that unless they have a cut off for each section

to be completely honest, i study exactly 0 MINUTES for reading comp, both times i took the test. I guess it is just easy for me. I do not read the passage at all and i was not familiar with any of my passages, one was on fungi and diseases they cause, another on sensory systems in crocodiles and the last was on a phil of cognitive science type subject haveing to do with vision. What id do is go directly to the questions and search my ass off to find the answers to each question by the time you get to the last question for that topic you have read most of it and usually u can go back and answer previous questions that you were not sure about. Basially i looked for key words in the question and then looked for it in the passage. I did not read for content at all. Usually u can skim and memorize which paragraphs tell you what and then refer to them when a question is asked....any other questions are welcome.

ps.....i dont read in my free time either, i dont read at all, so there is hope for all of you!! Especially if i can do it.....KEY WORDS AND SKIMMING!!! As far as the rumor that reading comp got harder, i believe its true, not too much harder though.

yea i think we had the same exam. at least we had the same rc section. did u have that qr problem where we had to approximate the area and the figure wasn't drawn to scale. that problem is driving me nuts. im trying to do it right now as i'm typing this up. oh did u have that RBC picture in bio. that was weird.

I think your score is very solid. I don't know how big of a deal QR is to most schools, but I imagine it's not as important as Bio and the PAT. I myself would be happy to get the same scores (I'm taking the test on Friday). Good work getting it over with!

i took the same exam today.
The reading wasn't bad but I ran out of time. The fungi one was straightforward.. just searching for the ansewrs.
The picture in bio threw me off though. I guessed but I am not sure if i got that right.
I know what you mean by that math question not drawn to scale. I couldn't do that problem. I was like what the hell?

yea i think i knew what the answer is to the area prob now. who knoes im probably wrong too. and the ochem on aromatic i thought wasnt too difficult. u just follow huckels rule and i thought u would be alright. but who knows maybe thats why i got a 19.
