Is there anywhere where it is listed about grade forgivenss. I am asking for my dh. He took some classes years ago that were poor and has read about grade forgiveness, but he is still not convinced of it. Also, how is it determined what classes are used for grade forgivenss, since classes at different universities have differing signifying numbers.

Grade forgiveness? What does that even mean?

If this is a real thing, I should start saying hail mary's right now, and continue nonstop through the end of the year.

As calculated by AACOMAS, my non-science GPA is around 2.0

There's really no such thing as "grade forgiveness," as such, in the eyes of either the AACOMAS or the AMCAS. Both application services require the applicant to list ALL post-secondary coursework.

AACOMAS does have a "grade replacement" policy where if an applicant were to retake a given class, only the latest retake will be calculated into the respective GPA. However, all post-secondary classes and their respective grades must still be listed on the application. The effect of retaking a given class is on your AACOMAS calculated GPA.

Schools like OSU have a "freshman forgiveness rule" for bad grades.. but you have to retake the class within a year of the bad grade..

Otherwise I've read that if you retake a class the med schools you apply to will be able to see your grade from before and may call you on it..

I would definitely say that AACOMAS has grade forgiveness (especially in comparison to AMCAS). If you retake a class, both grades show up, but only the higher (or retake) is calculated into your gpa. I'd say that's as close to forgiveness as you can get.

I'm not trying to purposefully revive this thread, but I have a question. I took 1222 Statistics and didn't do so hot...I then took 1221 BioStats. They are virtually the same course, except 1221 contains a biology portion. Would AACOMAS substitute the stat for biostat? I'm wondering b/c that would make A BIG difference in my GPA lol, especially science.

AACOMAS lets you say which class replaces which class. So I think the answer is yes.

I can't believe nobody mentioned Texas' Academic Fresh Start program!!! You can wipe out grades that are 10 years old if you only care about getting into Texas med schools.
