So I have heard two sides to the story and wanted some feedback from people...

1. Interview early b/c you get a chance to fill an empty spot in the match list...they are not going to have to bump someone for you...which is hard.

2. Interview late b/c they remember you closer to the feb match list and also they no longer judge you by the standards they set prior to interview...instead they have seen the rest of the pool...

thoughts

i've been told programs pre-rank applicants so i don't see how it could matter for rank reasons. in general, i'll be putting my best programs late so i can be well prepared. but this is different for everyone as i'm not strong in interviews.

Both ideas are kinda crazy. Probably in Iserson's.

As for #1, we can rank as many people as we want. No extra cost for ranking 100's of people. No one gets "bumped off" the list. Some people may not get ranked, but not because of other people on the list.

As for #2, most programs have been doing this for years and have time developed standards that change slowly.

Relax. Interview when convenient.

Totally agree. We match people from our first day and our last.

If you are SUPER interested in a place, I might consider placing it in the early-to-middle of your cycle. Brain fatigue sets in after 6-7 interviews, and most applicants are a little crispy when they get to double digits. ;)

Amen! We don't care which date...we care about getting to know who you are. I can tell you that the calendar has no play when ranking. In fact, we don't even begin to sketch-out an actual rank order list 'til AFTER interviews are finished.

Ok, what about the flip side - would programs prefer to interview people earlier or later? I would guess earlier and later-scheduled applicants are more likely to get tired and cancel.
