hey there,

i'm a mt. carmel IM graduate from last year. OSU is best if you want to go for competitive fellowships; just remember, they work you like a dog - but if you want cards or something, that is the best place to be in columbus.

Riverside if you want to go for not so competitive fellowships. Mt. Carmel if you want to be a hospitalist or internist with some interest in a not so competitive fellowship. that about sums it up. PM me if you have specific questions.

mt carmel was an awesome place for residency for me. its very friendly, the nurses are terrific, the ICU attendings teach you SO well (i can intubate in my dreams), conferences are very good. i think riverside is also considered very good.

the OSU IM residency is an awesome program. i have a lot of friends that are residents there right now. they all really like the program.

OSU is different than a lot of other medicine programs b/c there is a separate service for each subspecialty (i.e. there are 2 GI services, 3 cardio services, a CHF service, a nephrology service, 4 general medicine services, an ID service, etc.). in addition there are consult services for every subspecialty.

the training is great b/c you're trained by attendings who are subspecialists. OSU also has all fellowships in-house and takes a lot of their own residents into their fellowships each year.

also there is a night float system.

conferences are in one large block every thursday afternoon. residents can sign their pagers off to the chiefs during the conference block or they can just answer the pages themselves during conference.

riverside is a solid community program, but forget about going into cardio or GI if you go there. i heard mt. carmel has mostly FMGs.
