Hi,
I completed my Internal Medicine training in the US and have moved back to Toronto, Ont.
I will be studying for the Royal College Exam which I will be taking in the Spring.
I was wondering if there were others out there that would be interested in getting together to study and if anybody has any suggestions on how to study for the exam.

I'm curious, how do things work in Canada...what is the royal college exam? Also, since you studied in the US, did you also take all the usmle exams? Up to what point?

i am a canadian resident in my pgy4 year in gastroenterology..i just passed my ABIM's and will be doing my FRCPC exam this year..you need to join a study group in toronto, if you do not, you will likely fail..the ABIM is a much, much easier exam than the FRCPC, the FRCPC is heavily weighted on the orals which requires a study group to go through old scenarios..the written is mutiple choice, and mainly derived from old exams, if you do not have these old exams you will not pass as the questions are obtuse (unlike the ABIMs)
hope this helps,

Hey Adam,
Thanks for the info. Yes i have learned that joining a study group appears to be very important. But it seems difficult to join a group as they have been formed for quite some time now. Any suggestions or info on how I can join a group?
I have a CD with the old questions and senerios, so I will start with that.
I have been told that there is a lecture series which begins in January in prep for the exam. Do you know where I could get the schedule and how helpful are these lectures?
It would be nice if there was a prep course or some organized way of study for the exam for those that have not trained in the Canadian system
Thanks

i'm in kingston so i wouldn't be able to help you out with the study group..i would contact pgme at toronto or perhaps mcmaster to see if you can get the e-mail addresses of any pgy4's..it is unfortunate there are no organized courses.. i sam your post in the "canada" section and someone did suggest the pastest in the uk..it does seem awfully expensive, and troublesome though, but i am considering it for myself...anyhow, how it works out,

Hi
I'm trying to look into the passtest course. I called them to see if the course would be applicable to the Royal College exam here. They did not know and never heard of anybody from Canada going over to take the course.
Anyhow, I will continue my search and hopefully make some progress on studying for this exam
