I'm so new to this and I'm trying to figure out the best study time line.

I am in my second semester of General Chem..but I like to look at DAT books just to see where I'm at as far as the Gen Chem and QR portions. The Chem portion outlines what I will need to remember for the DAT.

When should I invest money into the Destroyer/Achiever? Should I wait until I've finished all of my Bio and O Chems?

--Also, when and how should I follow a dentist? Sounds like a silly Q..but do I just go into the Dentist's office and ask to follow him for hours? Or should I get a job as a receptionist so that I can say I have experience in a dental office?

Thanks ahead of time :)

Don't take it until you have taken a year each of Orgo, Bio and GChem. Doing well in your classes will make DAT review easier.

thanks :) Yeah the General Chem section seems so easy since I just learned a majority of the info.

I also think you should wait until you complete all of the courses to begin DAT prep work. Certainly check out the DAT overview by looking at the Kaplan blue book and/or DAT info online, but no need to start studying. I would definitely focus on what matters now - you undergrad courses.

As for shadowing, if you're interested in observing, I think it's fine to get stated. You'll certainly want to confirm that you do want to be a dentist. I think the best way is to see what it is like firsthand. If you don't know a dentist in your area, try contacting one and explain your interest in dentistry. Most dentists love to teach and give their advice (that's my opinion anyway). If it's still hard to find someone, I would contact your school's prehealth committee. They may have a list of professionals that are open to pre-dental students.

Good luck!

I would have to agree to everyone above. Focus on your classes and maintain a high GPA, seriously. You can't afford a low GPA with the competition that's out there. So good luck and if you have any other questions type away.

you DO go the dentist right?? you can start with them :) just ask, the worst they can do is tell you "no". now if THAT dentist says no, ask your parent's dentist. if that doesn't work, ask your friend's dentist. it makes it easier to break the ice if you two have a commonality...catch my drift?? i was lucky enough to have bartended at a country club in town, so i knew close to 10 surgeons, 15 or so dentists, a few lawyers, and a couple of complete scum bags...lol. anyway, good luck with everything and welcome to SDN:cool:
