View Full Version : Malpractice Insurance eyrobinson 12-07-2007, 05:27 PM How much is it for an ophthalmologist? Andrew_Doan 12-08-2007, 07:20 AM Depending on where you practice (state) and what you do (experience + volume). For general ophthalmologists it can range from $15,000 - $40,000+ a year. Here is an old article on malpractice and how much it varied in cost by region. In 1986, ophthalmologists were paying on average $9423/year. Keep in mind that high volume surgeons can pay higher rates than their colleagues. An interesting article in EyeNet: http://www.aao.org/publications/eyenet/200711/feature3.cfm Contact OMIC for a free quote: http://www.omic.com/ Andrew_Doan 07-30-2008, 10:46 PM I called OMIC today. Rates have dropped recently. For Southern California, $1/$3 million coverage for a general ophthalmologist doing Class 3 surgery (i.e. cataract surgery, intraocular surgery, and all Class 2, Class1, and medical ophthalmology) - refractive and plastic procedures excluded and results in higher rates are: Year 1: $5003 Year 2: $8018 Year 3: $9646 Year 4: $10,129 Year 5 (max rate): $11,034 |
