Ok. My last name is Spiker. So if all goes as planned, one day I'll be Dr.Spiker.

Which, if I was a client, probably would seem funny or give you the heebie jeebies. Dr. Spiker -- that's only one step away from Dr. Hackemoff.

Anyways, does anyone else out there have a similar last name situation?

Would you consider changing your last name? I've toyed with the idea, but can't think of one I like and the paperwork seems annoying.

Yes, I know it's a silly post. But I've just gotten done with my finals and feel like my dorkiness is justified :)

I know a Dr. Kill.

Have also encountered Dr. Angst.

I amused myself once by googling "Pepper, M.D."

There's some cool (rather than bad) ones in my class- we will have vets who are Dr Surgeon, Dr Jolly, and, perhaps best of all Dr Rabbitt.

In a non-veterinary field I know a Dr Love!

I also knew a guy studying medicine who will be Dr Batman!

My dentist is Dr. Mueller (pronounced just like "molar"). How appropriate. :)

When I'm dating a guy, I often think about whether his last name would sound okay with a "Dr." in front of it - these are important considerations! :p

I knew a guy in undergrad (who went on to attend medical school) who had a last name of Pepper. :) He'd be out of school, now, in his first year of residency, so there's at least one non-cola Dr. Pepper out there.

With my maiden name people would have thought I was stuttering when I introduced myself. I would have been Dr. Derr. I have a much better last name now.

My husband's childhood dentist was Dr. Toothaiker. He said he had to be a dentist with that last name :)

When I'm dating a guy, I often think about whether his last name would sound okay with a "Dr." in front of it - these are important considerations! :p

YES! Very important! The guy I'm currently dating has an ugly last name... therefore... I don't think I'll be staying with him :p j/k. I think I'd keep my last name.

If I do end up marrying another Dr. though, I think I will def have to keep my last name or at least hyphenate mine because it'll get too confusing. I used to do alumni calling and when I would say "May I speak with Dr. so and so" the person on the other line would say "which one?" and it would be kind of awkward.

Me too -- is yours an equine vet? :) I have to say, I never really thought about his name before . . .

I've driven past the office of Sheila Brush, DDS. She's right down the street from the Barber Funeral Home, which made my dad proclaim that he never wanted to go there for a shave.:corny:

Woo, old thread!

I saw a Dr. Slaughter listed on the board at a medical practice... hm.

Also know a Dr. Love, veterinarian... trim her dogs' nails all the time. No, she doesn't do it herself. :d

I just know I'll end up calling my boss's husband by his first name since I can't call them both Dr. _____. I mean... "Dr. _____, it's Dr. _____ on the phone." Lol.

There's a professor at Davis VM whose name is Dr. Buckpitt, no joke! And if you see his picture on the website it gets 10x better. I can't imagine going through life with that name, not to mention his first name, Alan, can easily be mangled into Anal. :meanie:

I've also met a Dr. Ferrier.

My Dr. name would be boring, not to mention easily mispronounced, so I'm planning on marrying a man with a neat last name. ;)

TheEvilShoe
10-19-2009, 08:28 PM
My Dr. name wouldn't be anything special with my maiden name, and I do like my boyfriend's name... However... he's starting medical school next year, we're likely going to get married in a couple years. Funny how becoming a vet might encourage me to hyphenate my name just to avoid the confusion you guys brought up, I hadn't even thought about that! :lame:

I love his last name though. It's all ethnic and pretty, and mine is a boring western name. :p

twelvetigers
10-19-2009, 08:30 PM
Ethnic, huh?

Yeah, people will come in to see me, and they'll say... wait, I thought you were Hispanic. Or, they won't speak English. I don't speak anything else! Oh dear.

Haha... I love ethnic names! My boyfriend's is Arabic though. And I am a very pale, freckly-skinned, blue-eyed, light-haired girl who clearly looks like my Scottish and German roots. I'm sure I'll get a few double takes.

If I take his name I just have to hope I don't get any racist/prejudice douche bags.. rawr!
