Just a few questions for you up and coming fellows and anyone else that is knowledgeable

What are some of the important aspects of competing for fellowships?
- Step 1 score
- Step 2 score
- OKAP scores
- Location of residency training
- Letters of rec
- Pre-residency research
- Research during residency

Which one of these is more important? - which ones are nothing to worry about? Anything that I've missed?

Thnx.

This is my opinion:

- Step 1 score (not very important)
- Step 2 score (not very important)
- OKAP scores (may be important at some programs, but usually not important)
- Location of residency training (important)
- Letters of rec (most important)
- Pre-residency research (not important)
- Research during residency (important if you published peer-reviewed papers)

so no difference between barely passing Step 2 versus getting something in the 240's?

presenting at ARVO not too significant?

thnx by the way.

USMLE scores are not really important. Do you have your medical license? That's what matters.

Presenting at ARVO is nice, but not that significant.
