this may be a bit early, but... how do we hear about if we do/do not match?
Is it an envelope? a call from the dean? the director? on Jan 17th?
if i dont match, will i find out earlier?

It is done in a variety of ways. I received a call (during a prelim interview!) from my dean's office. this was followed in a few hours by a call from my department chair. 3 days later, I received a letter from my dean's office.

I jumped out of the shower to answer the phone call from my program director.

I got a phone call from my Dean's office at 7:30 AM, followed by a call from my program director later that afternoon.

Call from the Dean's office at about 6:30 in the morning, and then from the PD about an hour later.

If you don't match, you'll just hear from your dean - they'll inquire what your back-up plan is . . .
