View Full Version : If I haven't gotten emails, calls, etc, am I doomed?

So it seems like almost everyone is talking about how their inboxes are full and phones are ringing off the hook with people telling them that they are being ranked highly... it is finally giving me the jitters.
I got some very nice thank you notes from PDs, but no recent calls or emails, and nothing specific. Nobody is begging for my ranking.

Please someone reassure me that I am not the only one not being solicited so I can go back to feeling skippy.

I have been kind of wondering the same thing. I haven't heard anything specific either. No emails or calls. Not sure if thats good or bad or what.

Oh geez...you all are so hosed. Better put on your scramble pants now.

No, the vast majority of people don't hear from programs and match just fine. I heard from a bunch of places in the bottom half of my rank list (the places I listed just to make sure I matched) but nothing from the better places higher up, including my #1 where I matched. I did hear from many of them after the match, asking why I didn't rank them higher though.

As for the Pulm/CCM guy, there's a whole thread devoted to your question here: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=436865

Don't sweat I haven't heard anything from my top programs. Wash U gives one if you sent a thank you card. A lot of my bottom half programs did e-mail but only 1 or 2 say anything about ranking or wanting me as an intern etc. Truth is getting a thank you card vs not getting a thank you card means nothing for the match....BUT it is a significant morale booster to get a really awesome e-mail. The silence is definitely getting to me right now.

I feel the same way. I haven't heard anything from the program I am planning on ranking #2, even though I sent thank you cards to both my interviewers and the program director and felt that my interviews went extremely well. It is one of the top programs, so that could be it. I've received phone calls/letters/e-mails from many other programs. Does anyone hear back from the really top programs?

What do you mean by that? This isn't going to get back to the program directors, is it? :scared:

I only interviewed at one "top" program, and the PD there specifically mentioned on interview day that they didn't play this post-interview solicitation game. You may be right that this is a trend among the elite programs . . . . too good for that sort of thing, I suppose. Now everybody can pipe in and tell me how their voicemail is filled with the Hopkins/UCSF/MGH/BWH PD's whining voices . . .

I have only heard back from the 5 programs I sent "thank yous" to. I did not get any phone call or email randomly. I don't know what to make of these responses. They are all from PDs telling me that my personality would be a great fit to the program and was very specific about my my interviewers have commented about me.

I would not read into this very much thoug. You have to rank base on your heart. My friend was recently matched at his second choice for Urology, though he got an email from his first choice about how much they loved him.

Best of luck! When March 20 arrives...nothing will seem to matter. You'll get into a good program and will get to move onto the next phase of your life....

Don't forget the closing statement...." I hope to have the opportunity to work with you in the future."

After the first one I received, i was pretty excited...and then when I got the third....i went back down into depression!!

Don't these PD's know they are playing with young innocent minds?!?!
