"The American Board of Pathology recently decided based on advice from the BB/TM community to modify the requirement for required training in BB/TM for some specialties other than Pathology. Accordingly section 1.b under Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine will be changed in the 2008 Booklet of Information to read as follows:
b. For diplomates of the Amercan Boards of Anesthesiology, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Pediatrics, Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Colon and Rectal Surgery, Neurological Surgery, and Thoracic Surgery: 1 full year of additional training in blood banking/transfusion medicine in a program accredited for such training by the ACGME.
Is anyone else considering this option after IM? What would a career look like? I asked about this on the path forum and they all seem to think it is a bad idea.
