I'm currently a 3rd year DO student and I'm interested in going into anesthesiology. I'm having an issue because I'm not sure whether or not to take USMLE Step 2. I did pretty well on both the COMLEX (650) and USMLE (237), and I'm not sure if I need to or SHOULD take the USMLE step 2, to further my application.

I know these are pretty good scores, so I'm not trying to be a pest by posting, but I truly want to know from people in residency, those on residency admissions committees or attendings, or ANYONE ELSE who can give me input.

If I was in your shoes, I would not take USMLE Step II and hold off on taking COMLEX II until December.

What if youre an allopathic student who got a 215 on step 1? Should I take it again?

I dont' think you can take step 1 again, but I would recommend taking step 2 early.

Doesn't matter really. If you want to take it then go ahead. However, you don't want to take it early. The reason for that can be found on previous threads titled "horrible step 2, now what?" or "failed step 2, now what?" Your scores are good enough to interview at any program that will interview DOs.

Dude a 237 is a great score that wil get you a lot of interviews. Don't risk messing things up.

I agree with the above posters. Those are great scores and should serve you well.

Just speaking from my own experience this interview season, the few programs that did ask if I took the Step II quickly responded, "Oh, you'll do fine" after looking at my Step I...and you did much better than I did.
