Hey All,

I was wondering if the PAT is really important for admissions?

I heard that it is the least important section. But you dont want to get a very low score that stands out

yes, it's important
to add to the rumormill:
i've heard that some schools take into higher consideration than others.

bottom line: make it a game, enjoy it, practice and you will do fine

Well, it depends on the school. Some schools put a lot of weight on the PAT while others don't care as long as you don't totally bomb it. I believe I read somewhere that the PAT section has a high correlation with the future clinical ability of dental students so thats why some schools consider it very important. I think the average score on the PAT section for accepted students is about a 19, so I would say if you end up with at least a 17 you are probably alright except for at those few schools that consider it highly important - than a 19 or 20+ might be needed.

^^ i'm not too sure about dental school, but i know there is the highest correlation b/w verbal reasoning on the MCAT and Board I and II scores. i'm thinking it is similar for the RC on the DAT...but going along with the PAT, those are usually my "study break" problems to "relax" my brain. I, personally, enjoy doing them - but i guess that's why i have done well on them :) i'm sure they are at least somewhat important, or it wouldn't be on the test. but what do i know, it didn't get me in this year...haha

Yes, there is a correlation between the RC section and how well students perform in D School.

can you name some of these schools that weight it "heavily"?

you could prob check out www.predents.com (http://www.predents.com) and see which schools have a high PAT average in conjunction with their AA or TS scores. (harvard, U Dub, UCLA, BU, and MUSC have the highest, and Louisville, WVU, Howard, and Mississippi have some of the lowest)

but i have no idea who weighs it more "officially" - sorry

USC looks at it heavily! I got a 23 on the PAT and got in, UNLV does not weight it that much, and I got in there as well. Just practice and it will come.
