Me too!! I live in GA and I am lost as well on where I am going to live and with who. I don't know any one in NV, it is going to be weird till I meet some new people in NV.

Same here.. I am from Fl. I kind of started looking at few places where I am planing to have at least 1 ..may be 2.. roommates from our class. I guess start with apartments.com, rent.com and forrent.com..
I think many students will be from out of state. Since there aren't that many Universities in NV.
I can't wait till they open the forum so atleast we can start looking for a roommate and start working from there..

I am from CA too, and i got accepted into Utah campus (waitlisted at NV campus). I probably will make a trip to UT in July. I am wonderring if I should bring my car or not (it will be a 800 mile driving if i bring my car to there). Does anyone know how public transportation in Utah is? I appreciate any input. ;)

Dont worry about finding roommates, i still remember i was so panicking when i moved to vegas but everything worked out so fine. USN will send you guys the roommate date base where you will find the name and phone number of all the ppl who are either looking for place too live or ppl who have place and looking for roommate to share.

I was looking at housing prices in the area, and the morgage on those houses are less than the rent on some of the apartments in the area. Oh the temptation.

Has anyone ever heard of the Cambden Apartments? They are an apartment community scattered throughout henderson and las vegas. Online it saids price ranges from 800-950 for a one bedroom and comes with everyone you can ask for... spa, security, in-unit washer and dryer...... I'll be living with my boyfriend so hopefully with utility, bill comes to 550-600 each. What do you guys think? Too expensive?

I'll be P2 in May and have a room for rent in a 2bedroom 2 bath apartment available August 1st. Clean, new complex, 10minute drive to school, quiet, own bathroom. Looking for a clean, quiet female. Hello, fellow pharmacy students. Just signed up yesterday and read some threads. It is nice to see the proactivness of my fellow classmates, but not at the Henderson campus. You all sure seem very friendly. Well, I am crashing you party to see if I can locate some fellow USN--South Jordan Pharmacy students starting in the fall of 2008 and some P1 and P2 students in Utah. I started a thread just for Utah because it seems like you Henderson people are very friendly and I am on the waitlist for Henderson, which looks more appealing due to the interaction of new and old students, but I was getting excited about Utah until recently---I am scared now! Can anyone please lead the way to a forum to learn more about Utah in general and the pro and cons of Utah vs. Nevada? Thanks and sorry for the interruption. Congrats to all you future P1s! Yay! Anyway, if you guys are having trouble finding a place to live, I just might have the solution for you. I live in an apartment complex that is basically a mile away from school (Solevita). I usually wake up @ 7:45am, leave @ 7:55am, and arrive @ school 8:00am. I have one bedroom available. Everything is furnished except for your room. So basically you will only need to buy a bed. The cost is HALF of everything. (Rent is $890/month plus utilities.. so overall of around $500-$600 depending on utility bills). On the side note, I am in the MBA program so the room will be available June/July. Shoot me a message if you are interested and if you have specific questions. Cheers! =)

Has anyone received a housing list of roomates from USN? I was told around mid-may I should be getting an email about student housing.

I haven't gotten anything from USN regarding housing. Also, for those who've filled out their financial aid/loan packets etc. I got the financial award letter. Prescreened my credit which is fine (for grad plus). I filled out the stafford and grad plus loan applications, filled out the promissory notes and sent them back to the perspective banks, notified USN who I am going to go with , and now, I haven't heard anything from USN or the banks, which worries me. Is there suppose to be anything else I have to do or receive? Anybody?

I stopped by financial aid a couple weeks ago and I filled out two forms for my loans. Then I forgot, the name of the lady who was helping me but she printed out my award letter. Then I applied online for my loans. I picked wells fargo as my lender but there are alot of other lenders you can go with. I would call financial aid office to see if they can e-mail you an award letter. I hope this helps

I received an email from Laurie Briggs today about housing. It is a form we can fill out to be a part of a housing database. As far as the loans go, I called USN financial aid and spoke with Elizabeth. She told me that I sent everything in that was necessary, although I am a little worried about the loan process. The lender I choose was US bank and their online status for my loan is pending approval from USN. This has been pending since late Feb/early March. I am going to give it another week before I call financial aid up again. It would be a real bummer if there is a last minute quirk that disrupts my loan.

I know exactly what you guys mean. I have emailed half of the people on that list, and some already have roommates, and the rest i haven't heard from. It is really frustrating, and in no time August will be here!

That's weird that no one answers to all the emails about housing and stuff. As for me, I contact one person and was able to get an immediate response.
Maybe those people you guys contacted don't check their emails often, you guys should try to call them with the number given on the list. Sometimes email gets transfer into the bulk mail and gets deleted.

It was like that for me as well. I had emailed everyone off the list and only got responses from alumni or newly graduated students trying to rent out their condos|houses. The only reason I found a roommate was by physically calling people up and leaving voicemails. Try doing that instead of emails. Hopefully that will work. Good luck.

If you keep up your work, then there is nothing to be worried about! I would have to say the hardest classes...hmm biochem!! =D other than that, you'll find everything like a piece of cake...i mean not really....but if you study, don't procrastinate! then you're good to go!!! good luck everyone, it's not hard, as long as you understand and memorize them well. THEN NO PROBLEM..=D :laugh::laugh:
I think you all should be excited than worry....trust me it's not hard as long do what i said above, and if you don't understand something, then don't skip it, call your classmate and try to figure out what it means, you may think "oh it's only 1 section, maybe i can get 1 wrong..but who knows if you get other questions wrong too"?? !! Always, try to have a confidence that you will make 100% on the test, and incase if you miss a few questions, it's still in the passing range, and make up mnemonics...On the other hand, don't be so distracted with the boys and the girls in class okie?? ....:love::love:
One thing to keep in mind, Dr. metzger's stuff is going to be around very often, it comes back again and again...and the Sympathetic and parasympathetic stuff, remember what effects alpha and beta have, cholinergic and muscarinic well...if you remember them well...you'll find it a lot easier..maybe you have no ideas what I just wrote...but just keep them in mind, when you see them, try to know them well... =D

For those still looking for a place and interested in renting a room, you guys should contact either:

I agree, Camden Apartments are really nice. I'll be in Camden Tiara and the facilities are great (swimming pool, spa, 24 hour security gated community, 9 foot ceilings, roman tubs, etc.) for a decent price compared to LA.

My question is, what is the law concerning obtaining Nevada Drivers License, vehicle registration, and car insurance? I know the state gives 30 days for new residence to register with the state of Nevada, but they also say it excludes out-of-state students. So should I even bother getting a Nevada license plate as well the drivers license? I plan to be in Nevada for 3 years, 2 if I can do my rotation elsewhere. Hopefully someone knows the answer to this because I know that I will end up driving to our externships and jobs and if I get pulled over for traffic violations, I won't be penalized any further for the lack of proper identification. I guess I'm paranoid that way, sorry :)

I was told that students don't need to get a nevada drivers license we just need to carry our school ID with us. If your going to work in nevada I believe then you need to get a drivers license within 30 days. I think I'm going to get a drivers license when I get there so I can become a resident and work...the good thing is they don't charge you state tax.

Thanx for the advice, I'll keep that in mind. As for furnishing my apartment, we're renting a 17' UHAUL truck that costs us close to $780 including movers to load and unload the truck. Because my bf is moving with me, I split the cost with him so I only ended up paying $390. I used part of the vacation cash out from my previous job to pay for it.

Craigslist is an ok place to get furnitures, but I usually rely on IKEA, Crate and Barrel, and Target. Too bad they don't have IKEA in the Vegas area. Crate and Barrel is pricey, but luckily they have I believe 3 Targets there. I was a pharm tech for Target, so I get 10% discount. I also know when a good deal comes along just because I work there and well informed of sales/clearance before anyone :D.

I guess I'm not much of a help, but Target usually has good deals even without sales. You can get ideas from Crate and Barrel and Pottery Barn store without having to buy from them. As for roaches, I'm planning on bug bombing my place a day before so I get hopefully 4-6 months protection.

Mesa seems like a nice place, and should of checked it out, but I kept getting lost this weekend, so I just signed with camden. I just went with whatever was closest to the campus and had a pool nearby.


Diazomethane: you have convinced me to get a moving truck also. I also managed to con a few of my buddies to come along, but mainly because I need a ride back to Socal :thumbup:. After experiencing the heat this weekend, I want to avoid actual living in LV for as long as possible. 120 degrees is insane. Now, I know why everyone stays on campus, its to take advantage of free AC. I hate roaches. I think I might bug bomb my place too before moving in. It'll kill mites and whatever else that didn't move out with the previous tenants.

Camden commons has a "anti-intrusion alarm"....lol. I have no idea what that means. It looks like a non-functioning alarm system used to deter god knows what:eek:

Phrm girl, when you signed up with them did they take you to see the "model/furnished" unit or the unit you would be physically living in? My roommate and I begged them to let us see our unit, but she said that it "was not ready at this time." Also, the pool had been shut down for maintanence (while the reviews said that it was shut down because the dept of health found it to be contaminated). On the otherhand, the tour that I was lead on for both apts had really impressed me. Does anyone know what the attire is for orientation weak and the white coat ceremony? Is everyone going to wear professional attire or is everyone going casual?

be aware, they cut up your california drivers license if you get a nevada license (punch a hole in it). However, just go back to california and say you lost it. Thats what my buddy did. He got the nevada license for "no state income tax" and free entry to um..............:D

As for me, I'm probably not going to get a nevada license. I'm lazy and I don't want more fee's to pay.

Diazomethane: how do you plan on furnishing your place? I'm at odds at the moment. Moving from OC is expensive, but then again buying new stuff is also expensive. There is also craigslist, but man I dont want roaches.

The Nevada DMV told me that as long as I was not employed, i would only have to obtain a Temporary State ID card. I am planning to do this, at least at first.

I chose Villa Serena because it's not too far from the school (about 10 minutes away) and it seems to be relatively safe and quiet.

While I like Camden commons, there are a few complexes about a mile north of USN on mountain view that looked really nice. Nice enough to where I kind of regret signing with Camden:(

Are you feeling this regret because of that website, apartmentratings.com? Please don't let that website get you down I signed with the mesa club and they also have not so good ratings but im trying to look at the positives. Its remolded so maybe that fixed alot of issues and they have a new management company which may be better than the previous. I think the camden apartments are also remolded and looked really nice. Lets enjoy our experience of moving away....Im going to enjoy my apartment and if I'm not happy next year I will move. Also a lot of apartments, in henderson, on that site has bad reviews. I hope this makes you feel better. :)

you have to drive around and just look at the places. Check out Solevita and Mesa Ridge. Those are the two complexes that seem very nice. So when are u guys going to do the drug tests? I'm thinking the week of orientation? I'm already paying rent for my apt starting aug 1, but I don't know if I want to actually start living there until the week of orientation (LV heat in aug. is insane).

A lot of students haven't even moved in yet

Has anyone received their loans dispersed to them yet? This is my first time taking out loans, and the financial aid office said that it will be about 1 month after the school starts when i will get my loans. Two days ago, however, I've gotten an email from Dr. DeYoung saying that any tuition payments are due the third week of August, before class starts. Should I pay for the initial amounts and wait for the loans to kick in?

I got the letter from the bank saying that the loan will be paid to USN on Aug. 21. You might wanna check the letters sent by bank. And I got the same e-mail saying that 1st payment is due on Aug. 20th??? I thought it was due on Aug. 25th...I am confused too....

basically, financial aid/loans is paid to USN first (aug 21) but we then have to wait for the money to be cleared by USN before its released to us (whatever else we took out). After that we take it to the bank, and then wait for them to clear the amount...... it takes a while for funds to clear.

get rid of them. I went with US bank and citibank, and it was easy. I basically applied to them, they contacted USN, and then I called USN and told them which bank I was going through, and then I went back to the bank's website in 3 days and it was all set for aug 21 dispursement.

If you are going to change banks, you should do it soon.

Ditto! I called Medinvest and they told me that they are waiting to hear back from USN's financial aid office. Per USN, they told me that everything looks in order and that they would be submitting all applications or paperwork within the week. Since submitting my apps, I have been calling every week and it looks like USN has been lagging. Let me know if you guys find out any other info...because this whole loan process is very stressful.

I had originally filled out an application with Mesa Club, but after dealing with very unfriendly and rude leasing agents, I decided do some more apartment hunting. I probably looked at over 10 complexes and decided to go with Palm Villas because my sister's friend actually lived there for about 2-3 years. It is about $1000 for a 2bed|2bath, comes with a one car garage, one covered parking spot, 2 pools, 2 hot tubs, gym, tennnis court, and volleyball court. Since my roommate and I were worried about the crime in the area, we called the central police station and asked about specific complexes and they confirmed that this area was pretty safe. Also, as others have mentioned earlier you can check out apartmentratings.com. Even though many of the reviews may not necessarily be great or accurate, at least it gives you something to go by. Fyi, I thought it would be necessary to have a cosigner since many apartments require that you make 3X the amount per month in income, but this wasn't the case. Instead, I was able to have USN draw up a letter stating the amounts I will be borrowing for the upcoming year as well as verifying my enrollment. Hope this helps.

That's been my experience exactly so I plan to do exactly the same thing: if nothing is confirmed by the end of this week, I'll go with someone else.

I spoke with Wachovia before applying and they mentioned that MedInvest was going through changes and possibly not going to be lending. If that happened, another bank would take the loans over, but the terms may not be the same. I went with Wachovia. It was very easy, you can apply and sign your MPN online so that it's faster. I'm sure most of the other banks have the same system. If you switch now, you should be fine. :)

fastest was citibank. Everything was done online, and forms were easy to fill out. It literally took like a day or two on citibanks part. US bank was a little slower (mainly because their website is confusing).

I just realized that were only getting $34,389 from are stafford loans and tuition is $38,000, the rest of the tuition is coming from our pockets for me that would be my plus loans. This is sort of a bumber but I guess it could be worse. :eek:

I got the call from MedInvest about not being able to secure funds before the Aug 20th deadline today. The representative told me herself that I should choose another lender. I chose Wachovia for both Stafford and GradPLUS and it took me 15 minutes to complete the process. Unlike MedInvest, customer service is better and enables me to check my loan status online. I also drove to USN Financial Aid Office to turn in my new loan application and void the ones I submitted in the past. Apparently, USN is informed about this and they may be expecting many MedInvest customers to switch to other lenders within the week.

That's where I'll be too. That's 3 USNers there as far as I know. I was referred there by someone on this forum and I hope she gets her reward for the referral. They've been pretty helpful when I've called.

They seem really nice apartments, brand new, and the staff is very helpful in the application process.I actually haven't seen the apartments in person since I live so far, but they seem nice from the pics online, and I know someone else that checked it and liked it! I got a 2bed/2bath for under $1000, and also it is like 0.5 miles from school, which is great. I will be moving August 17th! Generally speaking, East of boulder highway is bad. Henderson is a good area overall. Anywhere south of Sunset Rd is a good area as well. I would avoid the areas close to the strip and UNLV.

You don't have to pay interest while in school, although you can if you want to.

I thought Dr. DeYoung said if anyone on the waitlist got accepted after july 1st then they have to find there own means of paying for the first semester of school. The financial aid deadline was june 30th. Im sure he would of mentioned it if you were just accepted...

Haha, I forgot about the drug test and criminal background check, but that e-mail sent to us about the dilute samples made me remember.

I did the Criminal background check online yesterday and it was really quick, just fill out the form, credit card info and that's it.

As for the Drug test, the e-mail said that anytime after 8/01/08 is good, but that they will notify us if we didn't have it done by orientation, 8/20/08.

The attached file also said that there were two locations in Vegas. However, I'm not sure if we are supposed to have it done there and only there.

I called the office in east Vegas and they said that they are walk-in and don't take appointments. So for those who are going to the Henderson Campus, you can go and do it a day or two before Aug 20th.

The Loan Interview is for anyone taking out Loans for the school, no matter the lender. Don't worry, the online test really only takes about 15 min. :)

As i read from one of the USN students that if given a chance one should take the interview early. USN has rolling admission enrollment?
