I've been considering pharmacy, but I'm just wondering if there is enough challenge in the job. My current job is very monotonous, and I'm bored all of the time, which is why I am returning to school (present job is business related). Will I face the same monotony is pharmacy?
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

There are many opportunities offered with the PharmD degree. You can work in retail, hospital pharmacy, do clinical pharmacy where you basically never fill a script, research, teach, etc. The degree offers many different career paths. Certainly, some of them are (extremely) tedious, but you can find the job that fits you. It shouldn't be too hard to find something that you love doing with the pharmd degree.

lsu,
i was in pharmacy shcool for a year. if you want to avoid boredom than definitely avoid retail. it is the exact same thing every day and that consists of getting yelled at alot, working like a dog in front of a computer screen all day and dealing with insurance companies. pharm d does have other options though like clinical pharmacy or consulting which would be more fun but they dont pay as good as retail. hope that helps

But I thought I heard a figure that something like 80% of pharmacy jobs are in retail. That really concerns me.

Actually the number is more like 60% of pharmacists do retail. Because retail pays more it attracts a lot of students leaving the other fields more open. For example, getting a residency is not overly difficult because many students forgoe the $30,000 stipend and want the bigger money. Doing an internship will lead to the more interesting jobs in pharmacy....
Also, the distributive role of the pharamacists is supposed to be diminishing with the advent of technology and better trained technician. This to will allow the pharmacist to do other roles.
