View Full Version : Kaplan Full Length 6
MDWannabe2009 04-21-2008, 03:00 PM I just took FL 6 and got a PS9 VR11 BS12 Composite 32
This is my highest score yet, and I just wanted to see if anybody knew if this test is a good judge for the real thing. I heard from some others that FL 6 was a "confidence booster" and just wanted to see if other people here felt the same way - in that it was easier than usual.
MDWannabe2009 04-21-2008, 05:09 PM comeon...nobody has any feedback for me?
doomknight 04-21-2008, 05:12 PM yup I got a 35 on Kaplan FL 6
took AAMC3 next day got a 25, mostly cuz I wasn't used to the AAMC curve
I'm pretty sure that's not what he wanted to hear. If I were you I would be proud of that score and continue with the kaplan test. Some Kaplan test takers dont do the AAMC's just because of the example above. I believe if your gettin 30's on kap then you should believe your gonna get 30's on the real thing. Also, stay off this website until you do the real thing. Your gonna hear like 20 different opinions and your gonna end up more confused then when you started. Trust me from expierence, goodluck

this is categorically wrong IMO and in others. kaplan's tests are much harder on PS (heavy calculations), much easier on VR (too many details questions), and slightly easier on BS.
persistent advice is to do all available AAMCs before your test day.
rhlsg 04-21-2008, 07:05 PM For Kaplan 6,7, and 8 I ranged around 33-35. On most of the later AAMCs I ranged 2-3 points lower. I used Kaplan's mainly to get myself used to some of the tougher physical science passages so I wouldn't freak out on the real thing. I took it last Saturday so I'll let you know if it worked :)
Congrats on getting your first 30+ and use that to build your confidence. Though whatever you do.... DO NOT take Kaplan 10 or 11. Take them if you want to have more practice, but stay away if you want to hold on to your confidence. I got a 20 on Kaplan 11 :) My Kaplan instructor who scores high 30s/low 40s got a 27.
FiLLiBEANO 04-22-2008, 07:51 PM i scored a 10 on the VR and my best score was a 9 on kaplan #2 last week. To mention, i never get to the last passage in vr and end up guessing B. Usually on aamc exams, i score around a 7 or 8.
GeorgianCMV 04-24-2008, 07:14 AM I think that Kaplan's PS are way harder than AAMC's (soooo many involved calculations, and the wording in the passages is very intimidating) BUT the curve is more generous. I think BS is wayyyy easier...I got a 15 on the BS for Kaplan 7, and I never get about an 11 on AAMC. I think verbal is sort of similar.
But, I agree, getting about a 30 is great in itself, no matter what the practice test. I would maybe subtract a couple points and consider that to be what you would have done on AAMC.
Vihsadas 04-24-2008, 08:04 AM Listen man, the thing is; you can't let the result of every test affect your confidence so much. You have to be able to approach the MCAT un-emotionally, and to be completely undeterred to beat it. You get a good mark on a practice test great! Keep studying to keep it up. You get a bad mark on a practice exam, still great! That's more stuff that you can learn to increase your score.
Don't worry about whether other people thought it was easy or hard. Just use the practice exams as a tool to learn and understand everything that you possibly can before test day. They really are only a general guide for your progress, and can only be looked at for predicted performance when you have a general trend over many practice tests.
tells 04-24-2008, 10:44 AM I think Kaplan's full lengths give a different style of questioning from the AAMC full lengths. The Kaplan full lengths are straight forwards most of the time if you know your material for PS and BS while AAMC fl's tend to usually ask more abstract questions. You need to rely less on outside knowledge for the AAMC's because most of the information vital to answering the question is hidden in the passage by a subtle sentence. Reasoning and some outside knowledge on the general principles of the concepts are really all you need to get to the right answer. While I have no empirical evidence for this rationale, I can say that I took 4 consecutive AAMC exams (10 to 7) before the real thing and I found myself going from a 26 to 32 just by analyzing the general structure of the questions. I did not study any material in between the exams and mostly observed that I had not taken into account a couple of important words here and there in most of the passages. I went from a 23 to 32 taking 4 Kaplan full lengths (diagnostic included) but the shift from going to Kaplan to AAMC definitely attributed to my initial low score for the AAMC FL #10. I felt a little unfamiliar with the wording and style of the questions and was more easily thrown off by the cleverly disguised mix of hard and easy questions. This led me to overthink a lot of my answers or not think enough about others. It kinda felt like I was going from a batting cage to a real pitcher. To continue with baseball terminology, there was more unpredictability with the location and speed (i.e. ideas and difficulty). Also, the spelling errors in some of Kaplan's exams distracted me when trying to simulate real testing situations.
However, Kaplan's full lengths did help me reinforce a lot of my knowledge. I found my understanding of a certain material greatly increased if I went over my answers of a kaplan passage. I did not find this to be as true with AAMC tests. Perhaps this was because I knew more material by then, but Kaplan definitely did a good job in improving my PS score (went from a 7 to 13 from diagnostic to AAMC 7)
UBCvan 04-26-2008, 09:21 PM where do you guys get this Kaplan practice exams? is it a book,or online, or from the course?
SN2ed 04-27-2008, 01:51 AM When I took it, it was through the course. They give you access to their online website.

WOW, you must not have been taking the same Kaplan tests I was taking. Kaplan full lentgh 9 is by far the closest thing to the real thing which I took on April 19th, I would argue that of all the tests I took, AAMCs included, it was the most similar to the real one.
GeorgianCMV 04-30-2008, 08:13 AM Geez louise. I just finished the physical sciences section of Kaplan 6 and I thought it was pretty freaking hard. Not very hard questions, but hard passages I though. Especially the passage about the air pocket in that diver contraption. And something that irritates me sooooooooooo badly about Kaplan is that for some reason, even if I have 8 or 10 minutes left, all of a sudden a window pops up that says "times up!". Does anyone else have that??????? UGGGGGHHHHHH soooooo irritating. On Kaplan 7 I didn't even look at an entire passage.
GeorgianCMV 04-30-2008, 08:15 AM Oops...I meant to say not very hard passages, but hard questions.
TooMuchResearch 10-25-2008, 01:05 PM I just received my least balanced score ever on Kaplan FL6:
P9, V15(!), B11. Looks like it's back to physics review for me...
