Hey Guys
For those of you guys who did the tests from the Gold Standard textbooks, do you guys tend to score lower/higher on the real thing? How does the difficulty and format of the questions compare to the real MCAT? I am asking this because I would like to start doing them soon and I dont want to be shocked/overjoyed by my score :)
Thanks

My GS avg was 21-23
My real thing: 29 :)
These are curved WAY more strict than the actual thing, but it is good practice for getting those WTF moments out of the way before test day.

I agree about the strict curve...especially the freaking verbal, besides one 13 I never scored over a 10 on the verbal

ya i took GS 3 today and thought it was curved so ridiculously. I hope they really aren't indicative of the real deal... I'm just going to do them for practice passages.
I tried kaplan's mapping strategy on that test and barely finished did pretty low on the verbal as well, but i figured it would be low.. but does mapping work for any of you guys and if so how what's the procedure you are taking? I'm hearing that the real deal has passages of GS' length so that might be a +

yup, I just did GS2, i got 10s in physical science and biological science(50/77 and 60/77 perspectively) and i got 45/60 on the verbal (I didnt use the curve because the curve I had was out of 65 questions and GS2 only had 60... lol).. so I think i got around 29-30 on GS2. Do you guys think ill do better or worse on the real thing?

Currently the AAMC has 8 practice MCAT (named tests 3R to 10). Indeed the AAMC tests are different from the Gold Standard (GS) tests. Most students find the GS tests slightly harder than the AAMC tests (you don't have to take my word, you can go to www.mcat-prep.com/forum (http://www.mcat-prep.com/forum) and click on General Questions and you will find that students have started threads to compare GS and AAMC scores.)
Good luck with your studies!

Why haven't any forum questions regarding test problems been answered in over seven months? I paid for the ten practice tests, and can't get any help with the solutions now?

yep. go to the GS forums. while the admins don't respond anymore, there are old posts from other ppl asking about certain questions on each test. so check that out.
if you want to ask a new question that isn't on there, then you won't have any luck. you'll probably run across some of my angry comments on those forums lol. there are a lot of complete bull**** questions on the GS tests, so just be forewarned.
I think it's good practice, though, because they are definitely way harder than AAMC tests. for most ppl, their real MCAT score is at least 5 pts higher than their average GS score.

First the good news! We finished development of the new full color Gold Standard MCAT textbook. Now we are all over the Forums answering all student questions regarding any exam. Also, over the next 4 weeks, we are doing a complete review and update of all Gold Standard practice tests.
We know the questions that students hate and they are being reevaluated in context with the latest versions of the new MCAT.
The bad news? Our bell curves will only change based on a change in performance (raw scores) of the pool of students taking the exam.
For everyone looking for more reading material to get ready for the MCAT, this website has dozens of essays to read on random topics: http://wepoplaski.wordpress.com/category/read-along/
