susan767 06-24-2008, 10:40 AM For those of you at WVSOM, I have Sprint, and when I was up there for the interview, I had no signaling whatsoever. I researched T-Mobile and Verizon and both networks have coverage at that area. What cell phone coverage do most of you have and how has it worked out so far? Thanks!
CANES EMT007 06-24-2008, 05:45 PM I have cingular/AT&T and I have no problem with service. I don't know about the coverage but it worked great in Lewisburg when I was up there. Are you an upcoming student? Look forward to meeting you in orientation.
susan767 06-25-2008, 07:58 AM Does anyone have Verizon? I'm thinking of getting that. I look forward to meeting you too at orientation.
bigLing2012 07-01-2008, 05:46 PM ATT works in most of the surrounding areas. There are towers in Ronceverte, White Sulphur, Alderson, and Lewisburg. Most of the areas that would have housing for WVSOM students. I think verizon has service there but can't use address in lewisburg if I remember correct since verizon technically has no stores and towers that they own in WV as a whole. Best of luck during the long and arduous process of applying

rm2908 08-06-2008, 04:00 PM how long did it take for you to receive the secondary and interview invite after you received the first email that only has the log in
I got the email with the logon info yesterday. This morning I went on their status check page and it said "decision pending" and underneath "you have been granted an interview" Then this afternoon I got the official email with the date of my interview on it. So only a day later! Hopefully the same for you =)
MossPoh 08-06-2008, 04:26 PM I am deferred. I am assuming they are waiting for my second mcat to come in.
deferred too.
i just took mcat yesterday.
esk1137 08-08-2008, 07:54 AM Deferred too. Just retook MCAT August 5th...
Cp22kjer 08-08-2008, 10:16 AM Hoping for an interview. Just logged in and got "decision pending" but I hope that changes soon!!
How long after you all got the login did they defer/interview you?

Cp22kjer 08-08-2008, 10:51 AM got the interview invite the day after the login info
Ahh it's Friday so I guess I'll be waiting till next week. That's crazy they grant interviews prior to the supplemental.
I'd imagine getting one is making it past a big cut.
thriftnuh 08-08-2008, 01:00 PM i'm with you cp22kjer...hope we get some awesome news on monday!
BabyKangaroo 08-08-2008, 04:44 PM Diddo. I received my email confirmation with ID and PIN#'s on Wednesday (08/06) and I still have a "decision pending" comment. Good luck everyone.

any news for today? i'm still "decision pending"....comon WV!
davenp73 08-14-2008, 07:46 AM Hey guys,
I added a few schools after my verification in June, including WVSOM, and was verified on August 6th. How long did it take after verification for you to get your secondaries from this school? With my first batch of schools I was verified 6/20 and recieved secondaries 7/2 and 7/10. Is it safe to assume that it will be about the same time frame?
Thanks for the info!
rm2908 08-14-2008, 09:26 AM you get the secondary if you get an interview. i was released on 7/2 and got a "under review" email on 8/6 and interview invite on 8/7
thriftnuh 08-14-2008, 12:35 PM Released on 7/23, "status email" on 8/8 and am still "decision pending".....

I'm interviewing on 9/15 too! :) In the morning though.
Milidoc0331 08-15-2008, 05:00 AM Awesome on getting an interview! How does the secondary look like? Did they say to send the secondary to them or do you bring it to the interview? Also, did you send your letters of recommendation yet?:scared::boom:

msu16 08-15-2008, 09:32 AM hey....looking at the tuition on the website...it seems rediculous for out of staters huh? Anyone know how accurate this is?
rm2908 08-15-2008, 10:19 AM I already sent my LOR, but I'm sending the supplemental next week (Need to get paid before i can send it!) You send it in and everythign has to be received before your interview date.
and the tuition is correct. outrageous i know. oh well.
MossPoh 08-15-2008, 02:27 PM hey....looking at the tuition on the website...it seems rediculous for out of staters huh? Anyone know how accurate this is?
Accurate. It is tremendously expensive.
futrdrwebb842 08-15-2008, 06:52 PM To all WVSOM applicants: GOOD LUCK! This is an amazing school...and, I have only been in classes for a week (two if you count orientation). You will be BLOWN away by the facilities, the faculty, the students, and the overall atmosphere of this school...PM me if you have any questions as I will hopefully be involved in your orientation process!
Regards,
Christopher Webb

Milidoc0331 08-16-2008, 06:59 AM What was the interview like? thanks.
Milidoc0331 08-21-2008, 11:29 AM What Could "deferred" Mean In This Case?
davenp73 08-27-2008, 09:37 AM Hey guys! I am starting to get a little concerned because I have not heard anything form this school yet. I was verified 8/6. I spoke with the director of admissions last week on the phone and he said that when they receive my application information I will get the pin or something to check my status online. I just feel like they should have gotten my application from AACOMAS by now, since the other three schools I added at the same time as WVSOM have already received my secondaries!
Should I call and double check? Is this long of a wait normal?
Sorry if I sound a little paniced, I am REALLY interested in this school!

This was one of the last schools I heard from. I had all my other secondaries done (I was released on 7/2) and i believe it was August 6 when I finally heard from WVSOM. You can always call and check though. And they only give secondaries to people that are chosen to interview. So you won't necessarily get a 2ndary right away, but it would be good to call and see if they will give you ur pin#
davenp73 08-27-2008, 12:59 PM Thanks! I learned (from my above post) that they only give secondaries to people they interview...what about our LORs?
axylotl 08-27-2008, 01:05 PM I am so excited! I leave in 5 days for WV... Interviewing on 9/3. I am hoping the day before to just spend some time wandering around the town. Is anyone else going to be there around 9/3?
Cp22kjer 08-27-2008, 01:05 PM Thanks! I learned (from my above post) that they only give secondaries to people they interview...what about our LORs?
I sent 1 DO and 1 Science which met their requirements.
williamgunnett 08-27-2008, 04:16 PM I am also interviewing on the 3rd. I plan on driving to Lewisburg the evening prior.
axylotl 08-27-2008, 08:54 PM I am also interviewing on the 3rd. I plan on driving to Lewisburg the evening prior.
Awesome! Where are you driving from?
ph34r 08-28-2008, 08:17 AM I received an interview on september 12th. i've tried to pm about 5 active sdn students, but no one seems to be responding. if anyone from wvsom sees this, do u mind pming me so we can chat a little more? thanks a lot. i really appreciate it. after learning more about wvsom, i would really like to attend. i know a guy in the airforce that graduated from wvsom and said it was the best place that he interviewed at. he made a 33 on his mcat and chose this school out of all the schools that he applied to, allopathic and osteopathic. hes doing a residency in anesthesiology now.
davenp73 08-28-2008, 08:24 AM I sent 1 DO and 1 Science which met their requirements.
Thanks, so when did you send them? After you got your interview, or can we send them before they make a decision? I guess I'm a little thrown off by their process of secondaries and stuff.

I sent them after the interview invite. I believe it's expected that they get them prior to the interview but that's about all they say.
Reston 08-28-2008, 10:28 AM hey i have an interview 9/5 in the morning also...you nervous?
Cp22kjer 08-28-2008, 12:33 PM hey i have an interview 9/5 in the morning also...you nervous?
It's my first one. I'm starting to get anxious/nervous/excited. Not sure what to expect but I'm doing my research! Praying that I don't blow it.
Razbrygrl3 08-30-2008, 01:17 PM Congrats and good luck to all of you with interviews coming up soon! Don't get too stressed out about the interview. Everyone in the admissions office understands that it's a big day for you so they really do try to make things as easy-going and relaxed as possible. Angie and Annette in the admissions office are amazingly sweet people so don't be afraid to ask them questions about anything.
Check out the Interview Feedback section under the Database tab to get an idea of how interviews were conducted during previous application cycles, if you haven't already looked. It definitely helped me get a feel for what kind of questions I could get during my interview. If you have time either before or after your interview, talk to some students or sit in on a class. And definitely check out Lewisburg and any of the surrounding towns just to get an idea of what's around you.
I'm a first-year and we're only about one month in, including orientation week, but I love it here. The classroom resources are amazing and all of the faculty and staff are supportive and helpful and accessible. They really want us all to do well. I applied kind of late last year (AACOMAS app completed in late October). WVSOM was my first interview and I liked it so much that I withdrew my other applications as soon as I was accepted there. If any of you have any questions about interviewing here or what school is like here, feel free to send me a pm or better yet, e-mail me at aisom@wvsom.edu. As you can tell by my post count, I don't exactly check SDN every day but feel free to contact me if you have questions. The first-years have an exam on Wednesday so it might take me a little longer than normal to respond, but I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
Best of luck to all of you!
-Alicia Isom, WVSOM OMS-I
Pineappleyum 08-31-2008, 06:24 AM Which did you choose, if you are a student here at WVSOM, why? and do you like your decision? :)
Thanks.
My interview is one week from today. Ah!
Spooner13 09-01-2008, 09:10 AM My interview is one week from today. Ah!
Congrats and good luck!
koojo 09-04-2008, 07:53 PM I just received my interview for 10/3, yeay! Good luck to the rest of you invited for interviews.
Richie Truxillo 09-07-2008, 11:17 AM My name is *****, and I'm from *****. I recently received my interview confirmation at WVSOM, and was wondering if you could give me some insight about the school from a students perspective. I really want to attend this university and am looking for all the information I can get. First off, what do you like about the school? What was your schedule like during your first year? How many times a week do you have OMM lecture and lab? What are the semesters like? Are they split into blocks? How was your experience with your clinical rotations in your third and fourth years? Which hospitals did you rotate at, and what did you like about them? Is there an open-door policy with professors? Also, do you know anyone that is going the military route? If you do, would you mind giving me their contact information? I'm really considering the air force and any information regarding this would be very helpful. I'm sorry this is such a long message, but I hope you have the time in answering these questions. My interview date is on ***. If there is any information that you would like to add, or anyone that you think I should talk to, please let me know. I appreciate your help.
Thanks a lot,
***** ******
Received this PM last week. Doing my ICU intern month so been very busy with 30 hour q4 in house call.
Let me try to answer some of these questions for everyone.
What I liked about the school was how most of the faculty reached out to me and made me feel at home. If you put forth effort, they really do become like a second family to you.
My schedule? I was PBL so not fair to answer for most people, but I put in 30-40 hours a week studying/preparing for groups my first year. During exam times I studied in 12 hour blocks. In lecture based, I'm sure people studied around the clock during block week...though I heard through the grapevine that block week no longer exists. One of the newer MS1's will need to expound on that. don't know if things are still split into blocks.
OMM was once a week for a loooooong two and a half hours. The lecture part is dry and I almost never went to it. The hands on part is awesome and where you will receive the bulk of your instruction. Dont freak out about the cranial stuff. Learn what works and what doesn't for yourself. Instructors are for the most part, awesome and very interested in teaching you. Still got through all 2 years with a B in OMM. :)
Did my 3rd year roations in Princeton, WV. Very good experience at Princeton Community hospital. General Surgery, got to participate to the extent of what i was comfortable with and good teaching surgeons. Medicine was awesome, have to read alot though. You get out of your rotations what you put into them. Saw some people just skate through. Others really did well and read. Do the latter.
4th year spent some at Princeton and others on away rotations in urology/surgery. CAMC was a mixed bag, some good, some horrible. I have friends who are of high caliber in the family medicine and ER programs there. New Hanover regional in Wilmington, NC was an awesome experience in my hometown. You have the ability to go places in 4th year, go do so and get the heck out of West Virginia for a bit. :) Lots of opportunity there so schedule your away rotations early.
Military route? I know some people who did and were happy with their choice. Single people did better with it, some of the married people got shipped off and weren't happy with it. Depends on your mindset but military does give you a stipend through school and pays for your education. Not a bad deal if you don't mind government dictating where you go. Definitely not for everyone though.
Hope this answers some of your questions and hope you don't mind me posting your PM, I purposely starred out your name and details.
talk to Angie and Annette in admissions, they are good people and great resources.
Cp22kjer 09-07-2008, 04:08 PM Richie thanks for all the info you've supplied about WVSOM. I followed your trail over the years and it's been extremely informative.
Clp321 09-07-2008, 08:53 PM Do they still do the auto acceptance thing. I read about it and it seems as if the most recent one was 2006. Just wondering. Because that was after their class size increase.

Don't believe so anymore. But I cannot verify this. I'm pretty sure you'll need an interview before acceptance.
davenp73 09-10-2008, 01:42 PM So today I sent an email to the admissions department to ask why I had not yet received a status page ID and login. Well, to my surprise I got an email back, a forward to another admissions rep, to resend my pin becuase it was sent on 8/12 and I never received it! I think this is so strange, I never received any sort of email from WVSOM, even in my spam.

CrewBHB 09-10-2008, 06:15 PM Does anyone know how the panel interviews work here? It seems for this school they have 3 interviewers, but also multiple interviewees in the room. How does this work? Do they just go around the room asking different questions to different people?
williamgunnett 09-10-2008, 06:21 PM Correct by stating three interviewers, but incorrect on the multiple interviewees. I interviewed on the 3rd of september, and only one interviewee at a time. Each of the interviewees were present in the lobby and talked casually before being called back individually.
koojo 09-10-2008, 06:21 PM As far as I know it's just you and about 3 interviewers.
Kate6058 09-11-2008, 08:31 AM Does anyone know, after an interview, how long can they take to make a decision? Will you definitely get one relatively soon afterward or can they keep you on hold for a while waiting to decide?
Cp22kjer 09-11-2008, 10:02 AM As far as I know it's just you and about 3 interviewers.
Yes. You wait in the lobby and are called one by one. You will be alone and interviewed by 3 people. I had a DO, PhD and the Admissions Director.

I interviewed on 9/3 and found out on 9/9. It may take longer though as we were the first group. The committee meets every Tuesday. Angie insinuated that as they continue to interview, the turn around time goes up. Goodluck!

Mine says decision deferred, Angie in admissions said they reviewed my app but deferred because they were waiting for my sceond MCAT scores......I don't realy know what either means, maybe pending is that they have reviewed your file or are in the process of making a decision, just a guess though

They are really good on updating things as soon as they are completed. I'd imagine if you call..... you won't find out anything more than whats on your checklist so don't worry. Angie is very helpful.

Gluck to all who are interviewing

Haha I was thinking the same thing when I saw that listed as my status. When I saw the deposit info down below I was sure that I got accepted. Go Class of 2013!
BTW, does anyone know when the $2000 deposit is due?
atallcosts 09-16-2008, 09:03 PM supra,
i think the deposit is due in march. it says that on the website under the accept applicant portion of the page. I have heard though that middle of December is the date to put a deposit in place. I will probably call Angie tomorrow and see what the exact story is. ill post when i figure it out
congrats again

Hmm, I read the deposit info below but I interpreted it as the 2k deposit is due (doesn't indicate when) and the 1k deposit is due by March 15. This is what is posted:
Deposit Information
Deposit One non-refundable deposit of $2,000 plus a second non-refundable deposit of $1,000 by March 15 or two weeks after the first deposit if accepted after March 1.
Either way I'll give Angie a call also and post when I find out.

It's been two weeks for me.
SupraDOc 09-17-2008, 06:10 PM Ok, so I called Angie and the first deposit of 2k is due by Dec. 15th or somewhere close to that date. She said it will all be explained in the official acceptance letter that you should be receiving in the mail.

Correct if accepted prior to Nov 14th.
ph34r 09-18-2008, 08:57 AM Just found out I was accepted yesterday! I'll be withdrawing my other interviews for this school. =) Finally made it.
WVPanther 09-18-2008, 09:33 AM To everyone who is interviewing, let me join Student Doctor Webb and say GOOD LUCK! The school has been a wonderful fit for me (an instate SBL student), and I would emphasize that there is a very strong sense of community and seeing everyone succeed here. Let me add again something you'll see often in your interview process, call or e-mail Angie or Annette if you need help with anything. They will cradle you through a process that can sometimes feel very demeaning. Their attitude is VERY representative of the excitement and committment of the staff in general once you arive here.
If you have any questions for me about anything good or bad, I would be happy to give you my honest opinion, just send me a private message.

I agree! Too bad all the adcoms aren't like Annette and Angie. Although I have to say most of the adcoms at other schools have been fairly kind..with a few exceptions. I even hugged Angie when our interview/tour was over!

I got a hug too! Haha.
I loved my visit to this school. I am still undecided about where I will go because I want to visit the other schools I got interviews at to compare...however, after my WVSOM acceptance, I was able to cancel two interviews at schools that I know wouldn't be better for me than WVSOM.
I wish they would randomly give me in-state tuition, though. That'd be nice.

Which 2 did you end up canceling? I canceled LMU-DCOM and RVUCOM after my WVSOM acceptance :D
skiracr456 09-19-2008, 02:46 PM Ok so I just got invited for an interview at WVSOM and I am really excited!!! But I have no clue how to get there and the admissions office is closed. I will be coming in from Michigan probably the Detroit Metro Airport. What is the closest airport I should try to fly into? Any suggestions would be awesome! Thanks!
koojo 09-19-2008, 03:14 PM Closest airport is just a few miles away. Search for Greenbrier, airport code LWB.

dangit 09-21-2008, 05:25 PM Hello,
How long does did it take for most to get an interview invite/supplementary apps? For me it's been 10 days today that I got the email saying they received my app. Is this normal or should I inquire? I get the "decision pending" message when I log in. Thank you!
SupraDOc 09-21-2008, 06:39 PM I got my interview invite one day after the email confirmation of receipt of application (may not be the same for all though). If you status is "decision pending" I guess your application is on hold for further review. I would go ahead and call admissions to get further explanation of the ordeal, they should be more than happy to answer any questions.

I received mine about 1-2 weeks after I received the email. I called them just to make sure they had my app. and were processing it. Some people I know received their invite/supplemental one day later. It doesn't mean they are more competitive or anything, I think it is just how they are processing things in the office. Also, if there are any questions on interviews, post 'em! My interview on the 19th of Sept. went very well. They have a nice campus, but you PAY for what you get (so they keep telling us). Anyways, good luck on the interview process.

Haha, yes I do have to admit that their facilities are very nice. I just hope they pour the money into rotation spots now that the last building will be done for fall 09.

I would so greatly appreciate it.

Nope. I wrote only a few paragraphs though. I was pretty succinct.

ph34r 09-24-2008, 07:46 PM So who will be attending the school next year? I withdrew my other interviews, so I am definitely going to WVSOM. Just want to know who my future classmates will be =)
futuresportsdoc 09-24-2008, 08:22 PM I just found out today I was accepted at WVSOM. I interviewed last Friday. I am so relieved to actually have some place to go next year. This school is so much more on top of their paperwork than the other schools. Angie and Annette are absolute sweet hearts. I was a nervous wreck all day today and was not productive at all at work.
skiracr456 09-24-2008, 09:48 PM Goodluck!
Thanks :)
skiracr456 09-28-2008, 10:03 PM Does WVSOM have a high acceptance:interview ratio?
hopefulfor2013 09-30-2008, 09:45 AM has anyone been complete at WVSOM as of 9/13 and received an invite to interview? if so, when did you hear back and what were your stats (gpa, mcat, etc.)? thanks!

Revilla 10-02-2008, 02:28 PM I am decision pending as of today, I am wondering how long till an interview decision is made?
Some people get the interview decision within a day or a week. In my case, I've been at the decision-pending stage for nearly a month. I have low stats though so I assume that's why.
koojo 10-02-2008, 03:00 PM I just arrived in Lewisburg, staying at the Super 8. There is no taxi service from the greenbrier airport to the motel. The interview is tomorrow...yeay!

Good luck tomorrow! I have my interview there on the 15th! I'm pretty excited! Let me know how it goes! :) I made reservations at the General Lewis Inn. The admissions lady told me that was the closest to the school.
Did you rent a car?

The General Lewis Inn is a really nice place...it's actually the oldest building in Lewisburg, dating back to the mid 1700's. It's basically right next to the school. The Motel 8 I'm staying at is 3/4 miles from the school, so I plan to just walk there. From the Greenbrier Airport to the school it's just a few miles, and I couldn't justify renting a car for two days to drive just a few miles. You might want to see if the Inn has a shuttle to pick you up from the airport. Initially I figured I'd get a taxi, but there is no running taxi's in Lewisburg. There is a shuttle serve inside the airport, but it's for the Greenbrier resort, which is a different hotel about 15 miles away. I talked to that guy (who was really nice), and for a small fee he gave me a quick tour around Lewisburg in the van, and showed me where the school is and where the admissions building is. He then dropped me off at the motel. To get back to the airport, I figure I'd ask the motel people to see if they could give me a ride...if not, I'll have to hitchike lol.
koojo 10-03-2008, 12:51 PM Just got back from the interview. This is a GREAT school. I arrived there at about 10am and Annette (the nicest admission staff I have ever met) took us on a tour of the school. Anatomy lab is AWESOME. They are building a new research building and an addition to the gym, which can be used by the students and their families. The had lunch with the students, which was very nice. After that we had our interviews, which lasted about a half an hour. I really really liked the school because of what they have to offer and it reminds me a lot of my home town. It is rural, but if you come from a rural background, then it's just fine. I really hope I get accepted here :)
Psych1985 10-04-2008, 11:25 AM That's great koojo, I'm glad you had such a wonderful interview experience. I'm hoping for an interview there as well. Wishing you luck on an acceptance!

Is it better to send LORs before an interview request? Will they look at it before then?
Psych1985 10-04-2008, 12:00 PM Hi Revilla,
Per their FAQ page:
When should I submit my letters of recommendation? Letters are accepted at anytime, however, you may want to wait until you receive an official invitation to interview.
Obviously, I didn't wait! hahah. I don't know if they look at them beforehand but I am hoping that if they do decide to interview me then they could do it quicker because they will already have my letters. I know they were received because they show up on the check list page.
Good luck!

koojo 10-04-2008, 09:29 PM Annette said send in the LOR ASAP. I would not wait for anything. Send them in. What I did was have all the letters of recommendation go to the pre-health committee, including the DO letter, and it all got uploaded to VirtualEvals.

Nice man! Glad you got accepted as well. It's easier to breath now knowing that we can go to one school for sure. What other schools are you interviewing at again? I think you mentioned VCOM right? I got that one in November too.
kdmt7 10-08-2008, 07:36 AM I only have one other interview at this point at LECOM-Erie, but my advisor just sent out my letters of recommendation last week so I am expecting others when I am complete. Very true, it is easier to breathe now. I may withdraw from Lecom-erie now because WVSOM was one of my top choices and now I can just focus on hopefully getting an interview at VCOM, and OUCOM. By the way, do you know when our first deposit is due at WVSOM?

koojo 10-08-2008, 08:52 PM I was checking out some other posts which said that certain states/schools will let you become a state resident after an allotted time, and you can start paying in-state tuition.
To those that go to WVSOM, how does this work? It be nice to pay $20k instead of $50k after a year or so. I'm not sure if WV will allow this and if WVSOM will comply, but maybe you guys/gals will know :)

This (http://www.arc.wvu.edu/admissions/residency_policy.html) is a start. I'd look a little further into it, but it seems you'll have to be convincing that you're gonna stick around for the long haul to get your status changed, since you didn't move there 12 months before school. Maybe if you signed an agreement to do underserved work in WV upon graduation, they'd let you. That's assuming that you want to spend the next decade there...

I saw a clause somewhere that stated tuition is locked for instate/OOS based on the first year. I'm pretty sure there's no way around that. Look for it on the website, it's there.
As CB said there are some programs that will pay your tuition if you commit to rural primary care medicine. I think each year they pay its a year of commitment.
Or you could do the military....

To those of you that were wondering about getting in-state tuition, I believe the previous mentions of having to live in WV for one year first are right. I'm not 100% sure about this but I think if you own property (ie a house or land) in WV, you can claim in-state residency. I'm not sure how long you would've had to own the property though.
Another way to get in-state residency, although probably less conventional, is to marry a WV resident. I personally wouldn't get married just to save a lot of money on tuition, but if it sounds like a good deal to you, then happy hunting!

$3000 total. The first deposit is $2000 and the second deposit is $1000. Or at least that's what it was last year.

Oh my gosh... $2000?? Do they offer extensions?? I thought $700 was high. If I get in I am going to have to beg, borrow and steal for that. We can't get financial aid until we matriculate... I shouldn't count my eggs until they hatch but that is something I would need to be prepared for!!
Kishkinde 10-10-2008, 12:47 PM So when you all get invited for an interview, did the website automatically tell you what interview date? I've been invited to interview, but I don't see a date? Do we have to send in supplementals first?;)

Well the 2k isn't due until Dec 15 so you have a little bit of time to save up/solidify your decision.
skiracr456 10-10-2008, 03:25 PM I am from a more urban area and I am wondering if I should dress more conservatively for my interview next week? I am planning on wearing a suit but does skirt vs pants matter and I am wondering about the shirt I should wear underneath? I have some button downs but those feel bulky and don't stay tucked in very well. I also just bought a sweater, or a camisole (but wouldnt want to take off my jacket) I could wear underneath. Lemme know what you guys think.
Razbrygrl3 10-10-2008, 06:54 PM As long as you're dressed professionally, it doesn't really matter what you decide to wear. However, you will probably be taking your student ID composite photo during the campus tour part, in case you do get accepted and decide to matriculate. You can opt out of it if you like though and just wait to take your photo during orientation.

That's a pretty far drive if you're up to it. I'd guess you could just estimate what would be cheaper. I rented a car and stayed at the Hampton Inn and was very satisfied. They serve complementary continental breakfast (hot breakfast) so I highly recommend them. Also the rooms were very clean with lots of comfy pillows.

Also, I couldn't find anything on the website, but does anyone know if a picture is required with the supplemental application? I am not sure if it is required or not. Thanks!
skiracr456 10-12-2008, 04:08 PM I have an interview on 11/5 and I am from MI, just trying to figure out if flying or driving is best and where to stay? Any tips for/about anything would be helpful : )
I am staying at the General Lewis Inn. I have heard good things about it, only problem no free breakfast (I am not much of a breakfast eater anyways). Also you say you are from MI, so am I. I found that the flights from DTW (Detroit) were really expensive. I am driving to Cleveland and flying from there. I am saving like $150 at least on my flight. I also was able to fly right into the Greenbriar Airport. My interview is on Wednesday so I will let you know how everything checks out!

Good luck at your interview!! Let me know how the flight plans and the hotel goes! Thats great to hear about another MI person with an interview! And thanks so much for the tip about flying out of the Cleveland b/c I was thinking flying would be way to expensive but was not looking forward to the 9 hour drive...

I stayed at the Holiday Inn and it was very nice. They have cinnamon rolls for breakfast that are really good if you can handle something really sweet in the morning, if not they also have eggs, bagels, cereal, yogurt, fruit, and even sausage gravy and biscuits. The rooms were very clean and it is a new building. The beds are very comfortable as well. The rates are a little bit high but I thought it was worth it.

Bad stuff?? I don't know why people would write bad stuff about that place. It's a simple motel. The room I had had a king size bed, a fridge, a desk, a reclining chair, free wireless internet, a tv with cable, and overall a comfy atmosphere. I stayed there 2 nights and had nothing bad to say about it. It's not like I'm going to live there, it was only 2 nights. Oh ya, the room I stayed in didn't have an iron/ironing board, so I had to go to the main desk and ask for an iron. No problem :) I'd recommend it...save yourself some money.
rugger14 10-12-2008, 09:15 PM so I just got into LECOM and am thinking about cancelling my WVSOM interview I have 10/22. It is just that I'm from Erie and the tuition is almost twice as much there. I am intrigued by WVSOM and it is a very good school but I don't think I'd choose to pay that. So should I A. check out the school anyway-I may fall in love with it. B. give the spot to someone else? (I also have 2 other interviews so far) This may be a stupid question but I'm trying to figure this out soon, thanks!
EMTlady 10-13-2008, 01:30 PM I'm from NJ and I'm really close to a couple of airports and an eight hour drive to WVCOMs campus. I'm debating on flying or driving (since my car isn't exactly the most reliable). What did everyone else do? And where is a good place to stay in town... any suggestions?
davenp73 10-13-2008, 02:01 PM Has anyone who was deferred had any other news from wvsom? I was originally deferred, according to the office, because they were waiting for my second MCAT... But she also said that IF I was reviewed again and given an interview I would be notified......This was in the beginning of August and my status has not changed...Just getting anxious I guess!
When will they say rejected if they do not plan on reviewing my app again?
rugger14 10-14-2008, 09:10 AM good luck to everyone waiting on interviews..I'm cancelling mine so maybe that will help someone out. I can't get past the OOS tuition and 3rd and 4th yr state restrictions after being accepted elsewhere. amazing school though!
Like2run 10-14-2008, 02:28 PM My application was deferred b/c of waiting for my new MCAT scores (They recently recieved my new scores). I just checked the website, and below my deferred status it has a link to the supplemental application. I am not sure if that link has always been there, and I just over looked it, or if it was recently updated. I haven't received an email telling to fill out the application so I am not sure if this is good news - interview invite soon, or not.
Also, the application I have access to requires contact info, essay, and pic. Is this what people filled out when offered interviews?
Thanks
bigLing2012 10-14-2008, 04:12 PM Hey all. I haven't logged on in a while, been kinda busy with school. I am a MSI SBL'er and would be happy to answer any of your questions. For thos interested I was PBL but switched to SBL at the beginning of school. Reason? Just did feel right for me. But I can answer questions regarding getting into PBL and the SBL tract itself. So give me a shout if have any questions. Be happy to answer if I can. Not sure if this has been answere but deferred decision is the status given to all students during the application process and will change after you interview.
In terms of staff and faculty. We have some amazing faculty and staff from varying backgrounds. They love to help and are almost always available. Staff have trained at places like Harvard, Yale, and Oxford. The head of Physiology spent the better part of her career at Baylor College of Medicine. She left because she wanted to teach more than research. World class anatomy facilities and faculty. Can't say enough good things about this place. Remember that during the application process Angie and Annette are your best friends. Good luck to those that haven't interviewed and to those accepted, I hope to see you around campus next year.
Also wanted to say that Verizon is here in the area and you can sign up here if you have sprint. Keep in mind that if you are currently in an area with service they will charge you a termination fee. Providing them an address in an area with no service will get you out of the contract and you can transfer the phone numbers in most cases. Good luck and send any questions.
docman85 10-14-2008, 06:51 PM Ok so my status page is also like yours like2run, I just checked it today after a while because I got my MCAT scores (they were horrible...)
Does this mean I have an interview?!?!? If so, when will they email me to let me know?
Thanks

What state restrictions are you talking about? 4th year you can pretty much go anywhere you want.

koojo 10-15-2008, 01:35 PM I was decision pending for about 6 weeks and now I'm decision deferred.
Decision deferred? Did you get rejected or waitlisted? I wonder why it says that
bigLing2012 10-16-2008, 05:20 AM Turn around time can vary. I think the committee meets on Tuesdays to go over applicants. You can interview with out all of your materials in (i.e. - DO recommendations) but will not be presented to committee until they are in. When they get in you will be reviewed and will receive priority review over those that interviewed after you. Because they are interviewing so many people right now I wouldn't get that freaked out if you have been decision pending for a little while.
In terms of change of status and receiving interview request. Make sure you check both inbox and junk mail. When I received a request I was not aware since it got caught up in University junk mail. Angie actually called me to ask if I was accepting the interview request. Luckily, I was able to still interview the following week since someone cancelled. So pay close attention. If you are concerned you might want to give one of the ladies a call.
bigLing2012 10-16-2008, 05:27 AM Any uncertainties you have could easily be answered by talking to either Angie or Annette. They are there to help and absolutely love to. So either call or send an email. Good luck.
Revilla 10-16-2008, 06:15 AM Decision deferred? Did you get rejected or waitlisted? I wonder why it says that
Neither one, I think. This is pre-interview and all it says is "decision deferred." I think adcoms are probably confused by me because I have a high GPA and a low MCAT (which I'm retaking in January). But if deferred is better than a rejection for now, I'll take it!
engineeredout 10-16-2008, 08:52 AM I just got invited to interview! November 17th.
Also, please be aware that we will NOT be able to reschedule your interview.
Come on isn't that just the slightest bit irritating? I already have a trip planned to philly to present my research at a conference, we aren't getting back until the 17th. Theres no rescheduling whatsoever?? I mean obviously med school interview takes priority but damn I wanted to go to that conference.
They don't reschedule for any reasons?

Ouch. They were willing to push me back until December 1st because presenting research at a conference is a good enough excuse I guess.
Woo hoo exciting! Two interview invites in two days.
Anyone know what the %ages are on interviewed/applied and accepted/interviewed?

Um, what exactly did I state that was rude? I said I didn't know if he was joking or not... If I wanted to be rude I'd say something more along the lines of...
Wait nevermind, I don't feel like getting my account suspended again. I'll stick the comment about a cattle prod in a drawer and not say anything.
Seems like you were rude to me though. Try not to assume that I am an ass hole based upon an ambiguous (which I don't even think it is) statement, and I'll try to do the same...
koojo 10-16-2008, 06:01 PM I'm choosing WVSOM for med school for next year! I'm canceling my VCOM interview tomorrow.

ph34r 10-17-2008, 08:24 PM I was wondering, does anyone happen to know why wvsom doesn't recommend buying a mac laptop? i would like to buy one, and i don't think having one should be such a main concern. But it's a $2,000 investment, and i don't want to have regrets. If it's because of software compatibility, i was planning on installing the windows vista OS in addition to the apple OS. any input?
tallgal0523 10-18-2008, 12:45 PM Has anyone who has been decision pending for a few weeks been offered an interview yet?
Razbrygrl3 10-18-2008, 02:31 PM I was wondering, does anyone happen to know why wvsom doesn't recommend buying a mac laptop? i would like to buy one, and i don't think having one should be such a main concern. I'm personally not a mac person but there are a lot of people who have macs. At least in the first-year class anyway. But as far as I know, there hasn't been any compatibility issues for people who have macs. The "worst" that I've seen is that people with macs have had to take like two extra minutes to download a patch or something in order to use the program we run for Histology lab. I think the main reason for concern might be that if something goes wrong with your mac, Computer Services isn't trained to fix them. I don't know if that's true for all problems though. My next-door neighbor's mac got completely screwed up after he tried to update MS Office and Computer Services couldn't fix it, so he had to drive 3 hours to the nearest Apple Store in Richmond, VA to get it fixed.
That's not to say that PC laptops can't have problems that Computer Services can't fix either. But anyway, from what I've seen so far, people with macs haven't had any problems.
koojo 10-18-2008, 09:44 PM Speaking of computers, does anyone use tablet pc's? At LMU-DCOM, everyone is required to have them, and speaking to the students there, those pc's make their life a lot easier. Do you guys think that having one will make our life at WVSOM easier or it won't matter?
Razbrygrl3 10-19-2008, 01:35 PM Some people use them but I'd say they're no better or worse off than anyone else. Although I've never used one so maybe I'm just happy in my ignorant bliss. I guess it's just a matter of personal preference.
skiracr456 10-20-2008, 08:47 AM Sorry I have not posted sooner but I have been crazy busy these last few days. I wanted to let people know that I highly suggest staying as close to the school as possible. I stayed at the General Lewis Inn and it was great but I had some problems with a rental car. I flew into the Greenbriar airport which was fine but we got there (had a reservation with enterprise) and there were no rental cars left!! They were really nice to us and drove us to the hotel and even offered to pick me up and drive me to my interview in the morning. But it did add on a little extra stress for the interview. It all ended up working out ok, I hope (keep your fingers crossed I hear good news tomorrow) but being able to just walk to the school in the morning was really nice.
In terms of the interview it was all really laid back. I really fell in love with the school and the area while I was there. I really hope I am accepted. If any one has any questions feel free to ask me about it.
Finally, for those of you that are decision pending, I was decision pending for almost a month before I was given an interview, so keep your heads up! Good luck to everyone! :luck: :)
skiracr456 10-20-2008, 08:41 PM Hey did people who have already interviewed send thank you letters to the school? I wonder if this is proper etiquette for a medical school interview?

kdmt7 10-20-2008, 11:57 PM Hey did people who have already interviewed send thank you letters to the school? I wonder if this is proper etiquette for a medical school interview?
I interviewed on a friday and they were making the decision the next tuesday so like koojo said ( he was at the same interview as me) it would not have got there in time.
I have been in pending status for officially 6 weeks now. I contacted the admissions office and they just said that I would be emailed once a status change occured. Anybody else have this happen to them?
DrMattOglesby 10-21-2008, 11:59 AM did anybody else receive a letter in the mail from WVSOM?
it was basically just asking me to apply to their school--which i hadnt previously considered.
i received the letter about two weeks ago.
AmyWho 10-21-2008, 04:33 PM Hey guys, what does it mean "decision deferred?" I've just got my very first email from WVSOM today with the login ID and Pin and found out that I was deferred. Is it bad? Should I call the office ask about why? And anyone has their phone number, other than the toll free? Thank you.

I got one of those too..ironically it was a few days after I cancelled my interview haha. I think they must have some sort of access to our addresses through AACOMAS perhaps
bigLing2012 10-22-2008, 07:33 AM Koojo,
Congratulations!!!:D. Welcome to WVSOM. I think you will really like it here better than VCOM anyway. Again, congratulations and relax in your remaining 'free' time.

If you would rather have a Mac feel free to buy one. I am a student here and plenty of people use MAC Laptops with little to no problems. It seems the worst problem I've seen is an inability to download print drivers but that was resolved fairly quickly. Just make sure you have microsoft office and Adobe (pdf) since you will need to be able to view the powerpoints and pdf files provided from professors. Honestly at this point I wished I had a Mac and not a PC. Less problems and faster. Anyway, good luck and congratulations to all those that got in. PM me if you have any questions, will be happy to answer.
thecooljb 10-22-2008, 11:29 AM i'm going to musom. so, good luck to all those attending wvsom next fall.
skiracr456 10-22-2008, 03:13 PM Hello all. I just registered on this site and interviewed at WVSOM last Friday on Oct 17th. Received my acceptance letter today, so I'll be joining those starting next fall. I'd like to hear from those who'll be in the class of 2013 as well. Good luck to everyone who still needs to interview. The campus is very impressive and all the staff are wonderful. The interview was very laid back. They just asked me why I wanted to be a DO, whether I planned on pursuing primary care, and what would be the decision factor(s) between enrolling here versus another school. If you took the MCAT in September like me, they had me fax my most recent scores so the admissions committe could have them on file when reviewing my application yesterday. I released them to AACOMAS after I received them on Oct 7th, but it takes 3-4 weeks for the school to get them after that. The school is caught up on applications, so once you're interviewed they make a decision the following Tuesday. Once again, good luck.
Congratulations to you! Did your status page change? I interviewed last Wednesday and my status page still says decision pending with the Health and Technical Standards form listed and a link for it underneath it. I know I signed the form at the interview. So I am thinking this is really bad news. I guess I will have to call the school tomorrow :( I thought I had a decent interview too :(
tallgal0523 10-23-2008, 02:23 PM I have been in pending status for officially 6 weeks now. I contacted the admissions office and they just said that I would be emailed once a status change occured. Anybody else have this happen to them?
I've been decision pending for three weeks but I guess I'll be waiting for about another month. When I called them they told me the same thing about once my status changed I would be emailed. Has anyone been offered an interview recently that has been decision pending for a few weeks now???

I think that means your application has been put on hold and they want to see other applications before they give you an interview but I may be wrong. You should call the toll free number and talk to Annette or email her (she responds to emails in a day).

I stayed at the Hampton Inn while I was there. I think it was about 90$ a night, a little pricey, but I enjoyed my stay. The bed was really comfortable =). They had a complimentary breakfast every morning (mainly pastries, but some eggs and sausage, as well). Annette even picked me up from the hotel, which was pretty cool.

Read through all the posts here and was even more excited. Everyone really seems to rave about the people and the facilities......
Checked the website and it said "denied class full". thought this is either a really good thing that they had a spot and called me?? Or am I denied already?
Thought I would get everyones thoughts before I called.....any thoughts would be helpful.
thanks.
Sorry everyone.....I had the wrong term checked.....Guess I was a little TOO EXCITED....Anyone else interviewing the 5th?

medready 10-24-2008, 10:50 PM hey guys I need to know if you think its too late to apply to WVCOM? thanks in advance
Razbrygrl3 10-25-2008, 10:29 AM hey guys I need to know if you think its too late to apply to WVCOM? thanks in advance
It's never really "too late" to apply here. If you're looking to be admitted next year, it's certainly better to apply sooner rather than later. But WVSOM will interview anyone they think is qualified, even if the class is for the upcoming year is full. If that's the case, they'll let you know when you interview and if you do get accepted, they'll offer you a spot in the following year's class. I know a few people in the first-year class now who applied late during the 2006-2007 cycle and when they interviewed, the incoming class of 2007 was already full so they were accepted to matriculate in 2008.
That said, I have no idea how many people have already been accepted and will be attending next year. But going off of my experience from last year, it's definitely not too late to apply now and be accepted to start in 2009.
medready 10-25-2008, 11:25 AM thanks for your advice Razbrygrl3

Silverz26 10-26-2008, 06:34 PM I have an interview on the 5th of November and am pretty excited. Where did everyone stay when they went for their interview? Priceline has a decent deal for a Holiday Inn Express in Lewisburg, was going to try that.

hey! i have an interview on nov 5th also! i am in the afternoon interview group, are you? either way i'm assuming we will be on the same tour and lunch!
Silverz26 10-26-2008, 06:39 PM Hey everyone....first time poster on this thread....I got a phone call form Angie for an interview on the 5th. Of course I accepted and was excited.
I have an interview that day also!!!!!!
1troy 10-28-2008, 09:53 AM just got an interview invitation on dec. 5. Is it late in the process? hope class is not full by then.

It is later but the class will certainly not be full. There's plenty of time for you.
bbqggj 10-28-2008, 03:43 PM I have been in pending status for officially 6 weeks now. I contacted the admissions office and they just said that I would be emailed once a status change occured. Anybody else have this happen to them?
I got the notification on 9/18/08. Has been decision pending since then! Bluhh
By the way, what does it mean by decision pending? Do we need to submit sth else?
ejay1518 10-28-2008, 07:47 PM I got an e-mail for an interview invite for 12/05/08...but I never sent in a secondary nor did i pay my application fee; I don't know if I even sent in the correct letters of recommendation to them...do you guys think they sent me the e-mail by mistake???
On the other hand I don't know much about this school...but do they review primaries and then based on that if they like you they invite you for an interview and a secondary?
I hope the latter is the case because with my luck and my uncanny ability of sucking at life...I never know:(

They review the primary first and then give you an interview in which you need to have the secondary submitted before you arrive for the interview. Congrats, you interview on 12/05!

Ya, and write up that secondary and send them the moolla!
em73837 10-29-2008, 05:41 AM I also just received notice that i have an interview on 12/8. I was wondering if anyone from the Long Island/NYC area has gone on an interview there and if so, where they flew out of/in to for the best rates. Also, any advice on hotels in the area?
Congrats to everyone else receiving interviews!

I'm from the same area...I'm thinking about driving...6 hours each way:( at least...but I don't know. In the interview e-mail they give you a link for nearest hotels and stuff on the bottom.
kdmt7 10-31-2008, 08:22 AM does anyone have any information on the housing in the Lewisburg area?
Razbrygrl3 10-31-2008, 08:24 AM I hope all of you that interviewed today did well. And I also hope you enjoyed the little Halloween show during the histology lecture you came to during the tour. I had no idea that was going to happen and was wondering why some of the PBLers and second-years were hanging out in the back of the classroom. I was thoroughly surprised and entertained!
1troy 10-31-2008, 09:54 AM hey guys,
do you think the outofstate tuition is ridiculous? If I get accepted to WVSOM, how much would I be in debt afterwards? How many outofstaters are accepted and picked WVSOM as their school so far?
Just wondering..

It is very expensive, but for me it will be worth it since my family lives nearby (north carolina) and VCOM put me on their "still interested but want to review more applicants first" list. So I will probably be going there next year and can't wait, it is a great school. I may be applying for some government aid since I am planning on going into primary care which should help a little.
ejay1518 11-02-2008, 06:40 AM Hey does anyone know where I find information on WVSOM such as class size, board pass rate, match lists, average board scores, etc.?
Razbrygrl3 11-03-2008, 08:04 AM If anyone is interviewing on Friday (11/7), I'll be one of the current students taking you guys out to lunch! So come prepared to ask any candid questions you have about WVSOM, what it's like to be a student here, or anything else that's on your mind.
See you on Friday! :D
AmyWho 11-03-2008, 11:47 AM For those have decision pending, how long have you guys had that status? I've recently been changed from decision deferred to decision pending. I'm not sure if it's a good news though. Maybe they have finally come to the decision to reject me instead of deferring me :(

Have you checked out their website?? All the information is there.
Incase you haven't, class size is 200.
Two (2) Evaluation letters: one from an osteopathic physician (DO) and one from a Pre-med advisor or Pre-med advisory committee or approved science faculty member, via mail on college or business letterhead. Virtual evaluations are also accepted.

When I was having lunch with the current students on interview day, I asked them how many students were going into primary care, and they said that a lot of the students were going into a specialty.
ejay1518 11-04-2008, 06:56 PM do the students in this school have trouble going into a specialty because the schools focus is on rural and primary medicine; or does the school help them out as well. Also, does anyone have information like boards pass rate, etc.

dozitgetchahi 11-13-2008, 01:30 PM Does anybody know what's going on with this school? My primary has been in with them since mid-September, I have great stats (3.63/31P), great ECs, OOS (from Ohio) etc but I'm getting absolutely no love from their admissions department. I emailed them about a month ago about my status and they tried to tell me that I wasn't logging into their status page properly. I am logging in properly and I'd like an interview! My friends are getting interviews here and they have stats that are worse than mine. What gives?
Proctodoc 11-13-2008, 03:48 PM I'm so confused! I never submitted my secondary application to WVSOM because I had already gotten into CCOM (my top choice) but today I received an email interview invitation. I apologize if this was addressed earlier in this forum as my computer is super slow and I didn't get to go through all the previous pages of this forum. Did anyone else receive an invite without filling out their secondary? I just kind of let their secondary sit in my inbox and didn't withdraw or anything.

You only fill out their secondary once you have been invited for an interview.. so submitting your primary to them through AACOMAS was all you had to do to get the interview
Razbrygrl3 11-13-2008, 04:14 PM Yeah that happens often. They'll give you an interview date and then send the secondary application either at the same time or shortly thereafter. Then just submit the secondary by 2 weeks (I think) before your interview. But if you've already accepted somewhere else, just call or e-mail the admissions office and cancel your interview.

Make sure you're selecting the right application cycle year (2009/2010) before you log in. If you've got the right year selected, what does your status say when you log in?
Don't be afraid to call the admissions office to find out what's going on with your application. Everyone there is incredibly nice and helpful. They can let you know if things are going slowly because they're backed up on processing apps or if you're missing something like LORs or whatever the case may be.

Yea right after that post I went through my old emails and figured it out. I totally forgot that's how WVCOM did it. Anyway, I'll be withdrawing. Thanks for the info though!
AmyWho 11-13-2008, 04:46 PM Is it true that lewisburg does not have taxi or public transportation services? How did you, who have been interviewed, get around? And can someone tell me what is the closest airport, and hotels? Thank you.

You are correct. There used to a be taxi service, but they're no longer in operation. You're only way really to get around is to have a car or rent a car.
There are a couple airports. There is actually a regional airport right in Lewisburg, and Continental airlines flies in there from Cleavland. However, the tickets are rather expensive. The cheapest I've found is to fly into Charleston, WV, rent a car at the airport and drive down to WV. It will be cheaper to do that all together than to just fly into Lewisburg (Greenbrier Airport).
I stayed at the Super 8 Motel about a half a mile from the school...cheap..free wireless internet and free breakfast.
Silverz26 11-13-2008, 07:41 PM Hi Everyone,
So I had an interview last week and was accepted! I LOVED it there and was very impressed with the community, students, school etc.
I wasn't having any doubts until I started looking around on SDN and I have to admit I'm a bit freaked out by what some people have been posting, such as the low board scores for comlex 1 (in the mid 80's, ahh, I'm pretty sure other osteopathic schools are higher than this) and concern about clinical rotation sites.
Do people have a hard time setting up 4th year rotations? And where do the majority end up? Or is it very spread out?
I know I can't take everything on SDN seriously but all this info is really bothering me. I am not trying to start any trouble I just have this uneasy feeling now and I am waiting/hoping to be proved wrong...
I would really appreciate some info/feedback from current students (esp any 3rd or 4th yrs).
Thanks!
koojo 11-13-2008, 07:45 PM I'm sure you're not going to have trouble with getting a 4th year rotation. 4th year you can setup wherever you want and go there, it's really up to you and the possibilities are endless.
AmyWho 11-13-2008, 09:47 PM Does anyone here have interview invite on Dec 15 and also arrive at LWB airport sometimes before the date? Call the admissions office, when I interviewed they had arranged rides for students from the airport to the school so they didn't have to get a car, it would be worth a try!

I think it's about 72%
em73837 11-16-2008, 12:29 PM how did everyone get from the airport to the hotel/school? did you all rent cars?
melv55 11-16-2008, 03:33 PM Hey guys,
I am not sure if WVSOM is cool with applicants calling for earlier interview dates-- but if anyone wants to try, I cancelled a 12/19 interview so there should be an open spot
mn601 11-16-2008, 07:53 PM how did everyone get from the airport to the hotel/school? did you all rent cars?
I flew into Lynchburg, VA and rented a car. It was $200 cheaper than flying straight into Greenbrier Airport. Since I was under 25, the rate doubled. So it was around $55, then I added insurance just to make sure. I think it's about $30. After taxes and 2 days rental, my total came out to be almost $200.
I think you'll enjoy the drive on the mountain. The scenery is gorgeous. I came from a small city and I think Lewisburg is a wonderful town. The campus is amazing, too! Good luck!
doctorbighouse 11-17-2008, 09:35 AM hello everyone,
anyone know if the supplemental has to be into the admissions office one week after the interview notice? It says in the email but that just seems really quick
Thanks
engineeredout 11-17-2008, 12:52 PM I'm going to withdraw my application probably tomorrow, so theres going to be an open spot for an interview on December 1st if anyone is interested.
I can't in good conscience even consider a school that costs 50 grand per year in tuition alone when I've been accepted somewhere that costs 27/year (LECOM-erie).
Hope somebody can use the spot. Good luck

They originally did it for me because I had a good excuse, that I was presenting research at an engineering conference. Otherwise it would have been today actually.

When you go to the website: http://www.wvsom.edu/applicants/admissions/AppCheckStatus.cfm, and login, if you're accepted, it will say "Accept Applicant" where it before it said either Decision Pending of Interview Applicant.
After about 2 weeks or so, I also received a hard copy in the mail saying that I was accepted.

Still haven't chosen when school you're going to ?
tdittyx2x3 11-18-2008, 08:17 AM WVSOM is my top choice of the schools I interviewed at... EVMS, CCOM, PCOM, and VCOM.
I'm just so relieved and happy. I'm not positive I'll be attending, but I know that I will be comfortable learning medicine and living there.
By the way, I left my interview feeling like there was little chance I would be accepted. On the reverse side, I had an amazing feeling about my EVMS interview and was waitlisted. So this just goes to show your gut feeling after an interview means next to nothing, especially if you are like me and think about every negative aspect on the way home.
kdmt7 11-18-2008, 08:17 AM Still haven't chosen when school you're going to ?

I interviewed on November 3rd and didn't hear back until today. They didn't have my DO rec letter until a few days ago due to a problem with interfolio. They did say that a bunch of people on the committee had to go to an AOA meeting last week which put them behind on reviewing applications. :luck:

AmyWho 11-18-2008, 08:28 PM Is there a way around that $50K tuition? I'm very excited to know that I am granted an interview because it is my first one and probably last one. But just the thought of $50K makes me chill. I'm afraid I can't make it to the end if I were accepted.
AmyWho 11-18-2008, 08:32 PM Sorry if my question sounds stupid but is OB/GYN considered primary care or specialist? Thanks. Have you looked into the military? You should look into the Army National Guard ASR program, it's really nice. You get paid 50k a year for three years while you're in school, and there are so many other programs out there (70k sign on bonuses, etc)...so you will have minimal debt, if any once your done :). Best of all, unlike active duty, you can do what you want on the civilian side and only drill one weekend a month (once you're a doctor).
OB/GYN is a specialty.
koojo 11-18-2008, 11:20 PM Anyone know what the weather is like in Lewisburg in the winter time? I know it snows, but does the snow stay or does it come and go? Does it usually melt quickly? Do they use salt on the roads? Why I ask is because I have a modified car and I'm thinking that I might need to sell it before I move down, as I won't have the luxury of having two cars anymore.
donblackbelt300 11-19-2008, 07:32 AM Sorry if my question sounds stupid but is OB/GYN considered primary care or specialist? Thanks.
I think it's considered primary care.
