-Volunteered in ICU my first year for ~130 hours
-1 semester + 1 summer of research
-Dean's list multiple times
-Plan on volunteering this summer again at hospital

I have just completed my third year of undergrad. I am seriously debating whether or not to apply this summer. I have not prepared for the MCAT yet, but am planning on studying hardcore this summer. I can do intense study for a month and then take the mcat and apply, but I feel like I might be rushing it. Do I have a solid enough foundation that I would be able to apply a little late and still be competitive? I have not taken any practice MCATs yet either, so I cannot give an approximate of where I am at. I just don't want to take a year off if I don't have to.

When is the latest I can take the MCAT this year and still be in the early applicant wave? I have not written a PS yet, and have not obtained letter of recs yet. I was planning on applying next summer, but seeing as there is a possibility for me to apply this summer, I don't want to miss the chance if I can take it. I can write the PS and request LOR's, but my question is, am I a strong enough candidate without the MCAT score yet to apply this year? Should I try applying this year?

Thanks

Your GPA is about average for med school matriculants, and assuming you are taking the MCAT in June and score 30+ then you may have a chance this cycle. The early app wave I've heard is June-July for primaries. August-September is about the "normal" wave and past that its late...

If thats all your ECs listed then I might say that is questionable, because it has not been very continuous like why did you only do clinical work your first year?

Overall, if you applied broadly and early you may stand a chance, again assuming a good MCAT score. If you are really worried though apply next year and boost your ECs up.

Best of luck in your decision! :)
