You're right that focusing on the OH schools is your best bet. Don't bother with Case unless you get your MCAT scores up; my rough estimate would be at least 32 with no section less than 10.

I'd eliminate: Case, Rush, Temple, MSU, Wayne, Einstein, Temple, EVMS and VCU.

Some of the public schools on your list will take OOS applicants, but they tend to be applicants with very high numbers. If a public school's MCAT average is 30, for example, it's reasonable to assume that the OOS applicants who got into the school had an MCAT average higher than 30 (often times, 2+ points higher).

That doesn't leave many schools, but OOS schools are going to be tough for you. Sometime you have to realize your best chances are at a small number of schools and, if those don't work out, it's unlikely you'll get in anywhere.

I agree with abcabc1. Out of State is going to be really tough unless you raise your MCAT just a bit. However, your stats are definitely good enough to get into some Ohio schools (esp. Toledo, WSU, and NEOUCOM since you beat their averages). I feel that if you reapply early enough and tweak you personal statement a bit you won't need to worry about applying out of state... not saying that you shouldn't. Also choose one ohio school that you really like and apply Early decision. It will show that you really like their particular school and you are extremely persistant since you are applying to that school 2 years in a row.
On the brightside, I feel that you still have a decent chance at getting into one of those three schools. What is your ranking on the waitlist on the three schools? UCs may not move that much. It seems WSU waitlist movement has been sporatic in the past couple years (some years they take the top 2/3....some years none at all), but you should have hope for NEOUCOM...last year they picked from the bottom third of the waitlist and I know for a fact they dont start making significant moves on their waitlist until mid-june. I am in the same boat so hopefully we both dont have to reapply!! Also think of applying to some D.O. schools I know plenty of people that have taken O.U. 's (ohio university) acceptance over WSU, toledo , and NEOUCOM. Best of luck.... hope this helped!!!

when submitting AMCAS, just add 1 school for now. once you've been kicked off the waitlist, add the rest of the schools.

that way if you are taken off the waitlist you only pay $160 instead of ~$450

The key is not applying to the most schools, it's applying to the schools that maximize your chances of getting into at least one school and moving forward from there. I'm not sure how familiar your father is with the process, but you can tell him that your best chances are with schools in the state of OH. Of the remaining schools, the OOS public schools are going to be difficult for you and the private schools are also very selective since they receive thousands of applications.

You should be able to get into an OH school. If not, you may not get in anywhere. You can try RFUMS, NYMC, Drexel and GW, but don't hold your breath.

I had a hunch your father was a Physician... they think they know everything, but forget things have CHANGED since they applied, took the exams, etc.

is this fool proof? Will the secondaries come virtually the same time as the ones from the schools I initially apply to?
