Ok, here is yet another post about what are my chances but any help would be appreciated. I graduated in 2001 with a degree in chemcial engineering. While there, my GPA was 3.3 overall and 3.3 in the sciences. I then started working full time at a biotech company as an engineer. However, I have always thought as med. school as my final goal in order to put my skills and my humanistic side to work. Seeing the weakness in my grades, however, I wanted to strengthen my undergraduate transcript and so I took several additional undergrad/grad level courses at a different school while I was simultaneously working. In this "pseudo-post bacc" program, my GPA was 3.8 and after amassing a lot of coursework with this GPA, the entire average GPA for undergrad + post bacc is about 3.5. In 2005, I took the MCAT and got a 30. Shortly after, however, I got married and decided to put my medical school aspirations on hold. Now I would like to apply but am not sure how realistic my chances are. So I was hoping if anyone has some insight, they would share.

Alternatively, I was considering to do the special masters at UMDNJ before applying. I'm curious if anyone has done this program and also, I saw there are 2 tracks. I would like to do the part-time option but I think if I do, I can't take the medical school courses because they're during the day. Does anyone have any experience in these programs and also if you know how they are about either program for applying to their school. Any guidance would be appreciated.

I encourage you to apply this year and see what happens. Please provide the breakdown of your MCAT scores and your current GPA, both overall and BCMP.

Assuming you're 28+ YO by this stage, time is of the essence as the Medical journey is very lengthy. Apply broadly and hope for the best.

Consider: all schools in your state (except those too competitive for your numbers), RFUMS, NYMC, Drexel, Tulane, MCW, GW, Albany. These schools are by no means 'easy' to get into, but most OOS public schools are a reach and many private schools are super competitive. This handful of schools is all that's left and, b/c of that, they become competitive as well. Good luck!
