Hi. I took the Kaplan in-class course from October 2007 to March 2008 (weekend course), and my online material expires on June 30, 2008.

I am seriously considering using its 'Guarantee' policy to retook the course, as I am not prepared for the MCAT, what so ever.

My kaplan experience has not been positive overall, I had to call them (the Kaplan center and the 1-800 number) several times in the beginning as they did not upload my diagnostic scores properly and it won't allow me to do any online homework. As a matter of fact, everyone in my class except one had the problem and few could not fix the problem for 3 weeks.

Then, my class was somewhat psychologically challenging. Most of them were non-traditionals and some just did not get the concept at all. They were real drags as they did not even bother to review the material before the class. Few were just aiming for okay state med school, DOs, or international med school, but I wasn't. And it was so frustrating to see those people taking things for advantage and being so immature taking everyone else's time.

And of course, my teacher did not help, either. Although he was extremely relaxed and somewhat educative, he was so unprofessional as he was late for his class couple of times and had to move his class at least 4 times and twice without a notice.

Overall, I would not recommend the kaplan in-class course to other peers. However, I do believe their online material is amazing and I want to take full benefit of that.

I have been not going to my own class due to the unprofessional teacher and ignorant, and frustrating students. I did all my make up classes except two. As I have mentioned, I am planning on using the guarantee, possibly after taking the rest of two classes.

My question is, is there anyone who used the guarantee policy? and was it a hassle to use it? And how long does it take to reuse the online material?

I apologize for my comments being so long, but I just wanted others to hear my opinion on the kaplan course.

Thanks.

PMed you about repeating the program or extending your enrollment. Neither should be a problem in a typical setting, but considering the issues you've had shouldn't be a problem at all. Please see the private message for more details.

Similar situation, except my experience with Kaplan has been pretty good. I was thinking of taking the test in Sept, but for many reasons (including that I don't think I'll be prepared in time) I'm probably going to postpone until January. I wanted to use the Higher Score Guarantee... but just for the online material. I've gotten what I wanted out of the classroom sessions, but I agree with the OP that the online material is priceless and I do think that it will really benefit me in the months between the end of my course and the January test.

As it stands, my materials expire Sept 15 I think, so would it be possible to extend my online access until the January test date if I asked Kaplan? Also, in order to use the HSG, do I need to complete all the "Strongly Recommended" and "Required" stuff or just the "Required"? The "Strongly Recommended" stuff is pretty good and I'd much rather use it for later practice/review after the course ends. Thanks!

hey, hi.

I used my guarantee and I must say it wasn't as hectic as I have expected.

You must show up to all the classes, or you must make up the sessions by either showing up to other classes or doing 2, only 2, sessions on-line. Other than that you have to do their 'required' hws, including FL 1-5. For such matter, I suggest you contact the center and let them know in advance and make sure that you will get the benefit.

And you have to claim it within 30 days of the expiration date.

The online material would be re-newed based on your request and I think it is good for 3 months if you are only doing it for on-line course.

Good luck!!
