Exciting News!!

On Monday June 9th, Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple, announced the new 3G iPhone at Apple's World Wide Developers Conference in San Francisco. As part of his keynote, Netter's Anatomy --being developed for the iPhone and iTouch devices--was demonstrated by Dr. S. Mark Williams from Modality Inc., a partner of Elsevier, to over 5,200 technology professionals, media and more.

Excerpt from Steve Jobs' keynote:

"The medical community has been flocking to the iPhone." Two medical apps to show today, the first is from Modality. Dr. S. Mark Williams has come up to show off the application. Modality is a learning application to help medical students learn anatomical information, replacing paper flash cards. Zoom and pan across high-quality pictures, and you can tap on a pin to identify a body part. (Nice laugh at dropping a Google Map-style pin on a coronary artery.) It'll also quiz you on locating anatomical features. Seen the use firsthand: "Dr Williams, I learned five new brain terms this morning while I was waiting in line for my latte."

Will my iPhone, which is NOT the new 3G iPhone, support these "native" iPhone apps? If so, how do I acquire them?

When they release the new iPhone they'll release an update for the previous generation iPhones; release is July 11th. The software is free for iPhone users, there's a fee for iTouch users. I don't have one now, but i sure do want one...i might have to go into radiology just so i can work from a beach or golf course ;)

Hi ALL --

To answer your questions about supporting older versions of the iPhone or iPod touch....

YES-- These Netter apps will be supported on all iPhones - users with older iPhones will just need to update their software (for free) to version 2.0. All iPod touch users will also be able to use the apps, but users with older iPod touches may have to pay ~$5-$10 to Apple to update their devices.

I wanted an iphone already, now this gives me legitimate justification to actually go do it. I'm excited and plan to research this out more thoroughly.
