View Full Version : Scientists have discovered a cure for cancer - All cancers jelly476 06-29-2008, 12:50 AM http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20080627/cancer_trial_080627/20080628?hub=TopStories neuroprotector 06-29-2008, 08:59 AM I dunno...articles like this come out all the time for a whole host of diseases. In fact, there ARE a lot of experimental therapies for hard-hitting diseases out there, but they're experimental for a reason. The biggest pitfalls for these therapies come in human trials, and if this one is anything like the others it will fail too. Articles like these are often a combination of overexcited journalism and unfamiliarity with the scientific community. I do most of my work in stroke, and in fact there are over 1,026 recorded "cures" for stroke (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16453316), but very few of them really work practically in humans. Anyway, don't give up on going into oncology just yet. geogil 06-29-2008, 10:16 AM The article never says "all cancers are cured". The article never even specifies which type of malignant neoplasm was examined during the experiment. Bushido416 06-29-2008, 02:08 PM This really isn't a "new" idea we've been theorizing and studying activated killer T cells activated against different antigens for years against a variety of things. Don't know how many made it to human trials but it's an old idea. njbmd 06-29-2008, 04:36 PM Moving to Topics in Healthcare - Healthcare Improvement. Sunfire 08-13-2008, 02:47 PM Very interesting, thanks for posting that. Here's another treatment that's been developing, using radio waves and nanoparticles: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/...n3206892.shtml (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/08/27/earlyshow/health/main3206892.shtml) http://www.kanziuscancerresearch.com/ And here's one that's already gone into human trials (with success), also using nanoparticles: http://www.thirteen.org/curious/epis...sode-survival/ (http://www.thirteen.org/curious/episodes/watch-the-full-episode-survival/) http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct/show/NCT00333502?order=1 (http://www.thirteen.org/curious/episodes/watch-the-full-episode-survival/) Rooter76 08-15-2008, 05:07 PM http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20080627/cancer_trial_080627/20080628?hub=TopStories "Scientists have discovered a cure for cancer - all cancers." Hell, these guys discovered bigfoot: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26222822/ radslooking 08-26-2008, 01:37 AM sorry i can't bear to read this. maybe when some more credible evidence comes out from more common sources. i just can't put myself through the pain after reading the headline. i know i'll just end up feeling misled and pissed off. |
