Description:
Under general supervision of the Director, Pharmacy, the Pharmacy Manager, Clinical Services has primary responsibility for operating current Department of Pharmacy, clinical pharmacy services, planning and executing their improvement, and expanding these services to patient care areas now not fully served. In discharging this responsibility, this manager participates in processes that establish Department of Pharmacy multi-year strategic goals; establishes annual goals for clinical services by pharmacists; assists in planning, budgeting and justifying the equipment, operating and FTE/salary resources needed to accomplish these goals; and sees to operation of clinical services and goal accomplishment within approved resource budgets. The Pharmacy Manager, Clinical Services directly supervises three (3) "Clinical Lead pharmacists", and directly or indirectly the approximately 20 staff-clinical pharmacist staff who provide distributive and clinical pharmacy services to the hospital's patients (supervisory duties including finally scheduling and formally reviewing (annually) the performance of this pharmacist staff). With assistance of "Clinical Lead Pharmacists", the Pharmacy Manager, Clinical Services assesses and provides for the training of inpatient pharmacist staff, coordinates the Department of Pharmacy's offering and conduct of clinical clerkships for pharmacy students, and the department's post graduate general practice residency program, coordinates/schedules regular pharmacist meetings and has overall responsibility for the proving of these training programs. Clinically, this manager provides formal teaching/formal presentations on drug therapy to medical-nursing-pharmacy staff, and assists professional staff in gaining answers to difficult drug information questions or complex patient drug treatment....sharing these teaching and drug information duties with "Clinical Leads". Additionally, this manager operates/coordinates (has overall responsibility for) a number of Department of Pharmacy clinical programs to include (1) pharmacist involvement with the drug components of physician standing and pre-printed orders, clinical pathways, practice guidelines, etc.; (2) Department of Pharmacy involvement with investigational drugs; (3) programs for drug use evaluation (DUE); (4) Department of Pharmacy responsibility in the reporting and actions with regard to (5) adverse drug reactions, and (6) pharmacist interventions. The Pharmacy Manager, Clinical Services has a key role in supporting the hospital Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, coordinating the providing of clinical/cost presentations on all new drugs being requested for formulary addition, and presenting/contributing to decisions involving the use of drugs in hospitalized patients. The Manager, Clinical Services teams with the Pharmacy Department's Clinical Leads to address clinical pharmacy/drug use questions as arise from any hospital patient care area.


Education:
A Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree is preferred. The Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Pharmacy will not normally qualify a candidate for this position unless it is coupled with a solid and extensive record of performance of clinical pharmacist duties and work experience which has included responsibility for supervising or managing other pharmacist staff engaged in clinical activities, clinical pharmacy program responsibility, or other activities that demonstrate clinical pharmacy manager-leadership capability. Completion of residency training in a program approved by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) is preferred
Education: Pertinent advanced degrees, such as a Masters in Hospital Pharmacy Administration or Masters in Business Administration (M.BA.), are desirable

Experience:
Must have at least five (5) years of licensed pharmacist experience in hospital pharmacy operations. Two (2) or more years of hospital pharmacy staff supervision or clinical pharmacy program manager experience is require.

Licensure:
Current licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (R.Ph.) is required
If not already attained, licensure as a Registered Pharmacist in the State of Wisconsin must be attained within 6 months of hire
Skills: Must have documented leadership skills and positive interpersonal relationships
