We're putting together a list of books for parents to look at to help them through the process of raising children as they go through high school, college and eventually professional school.

The University of Louisville (http://louisville.edu/student/housing/parents/reading.html) suggests the following books:

Letting Go: A Parent's Guide to Understanding the College Years. Coburn, Karen & Treeger, Madge
Recommended by deans and college officials across the country. Easy to understand, covering a wide range of topics. Very insightful descriptions of what a freshman actually confronts in the first year.

133 WAYS to Avoid Going Cuckoo When the Kids Fly the Nest, A Parent's Guide for Surviving Empty Nest Syndrome. Schaffer L. & Wasserman, S.

You're On Your Own: (But I'm Here if you Need Me.) Savage, Marjorie
Stresses the role of mentoring, not just parenting. Emphasizes how the adult relationship between student and parent changes during the college years.

Don't Tell Me What to Do, Just Send Money: The Essential Parenting Guide to the College Years. Johnson, Helen & Schellhas-Miller, Christine.
Provides practical advice for parents beginning the college process and goes through career and job searches. Also gives parents an idea of what their student might be thinking or feeling n many different situations.

Please feel free to suggest any books that you may have found helpful.
