Why is the VA called the VA Spa?

Once you've worked there for a month it'll become totally clear. Don't worry about it.

It all depends on where your VA is located. We work at ours.

I always thought it referred to everyone else that worked there, not the residents. Also somewhat in reference to the patients as some seem to want to live there.

what part of this is not a spa? a relaxing, modern place to unwind and get a body treatment? do yoga? get a manicure?

one of our faculty used to say that va's come in two flavors- red brick and yellow brick.

I'm in my third year of residency and I still don't understand this. I think people just say it because it rhymes.
And Portland has one that's blue.

i think it is mostly because it rhymes, and because it's a joke. Unless you usually associate old crusty men who look like peg leg pete as a "spa".

Not just blue but blue and shiny. On the 12 sunny days we have each year it actually hurts to look at it.

the Spa at my place is ridiculous. I find needles on the floor, patients here for COPD exacerbation in the MICU (or what we call the VICU) for days at a time, and people making up all kinds of excuses not to do work (i.e. - patient transport stating "policy says i can't go into the patient's room" when asked to help move patient's bed).

I also love the "check out time is 11 am"...this is totally a hotel/spa!

my team's on it's 8th admit today and counting . . . (only 14.5 hours of call left . . . we're on track to cap, which will be nice, because I'll take a nap)

if it's a spa, then no one told me . . . although I've got a smoldering pancreatitis on my list right now (Hosp. Day, like, 20 or something), and he's just chilling, you know, waiting to get a pneumonia . . . (grrrrr)

The VA is ALL about dispo, Dispo, DISPO!!! Start planning it. You don't get someone out on Friday, plan to see them on Monday. The only people who seem to be working are the residents . . .
