Hi,

I just did the full length practice test 1 from the Kaplan CD that came with the premier program. However, I'm really confused about their system right now. I obtained a scaled score of 14 on the PS for only getting 38 out of the 45 questions correct. Eventhough I noticed that the kaplan PS questions are a bit harder than the AAMC ones, but on the real MCAT you need to be close to perfect to get a 14. So is the kaplan score even accurate at all? Also, why are their VR sections 45 questions in 50 minutes? I find that their questions are equally as difficult as the AAMC CBTs, yet much less time is given.

Thanks in advance

I'm moving your thread to the MCAT Forums which are dedicate to questions about studying for the MCAT. This one is in the Kaplan MCAT Forum.

Take any grade scale with a grain of salt. Those numbers are usually estimates, but sometimes from real data, according to the people who took the test. You will never know what your fellow test-takers will be like on your exam date. You may be able to miss 7 questions and still get a 15, or you may only be able to miss 1.

Czhang- that's odd the Premier Program CD test had only 45 verbal questions in 50 minutes. They must have made a mistake when making the CD (all their FLs in the online syllabus in my course have been the right format).

As posted by Humid on the real MCAT it does depend from exam to exam. However generally people say because Kaplan FL tests are more difficult, you can miss more and still get an equivalent (or sometimes "higher" score) than you would on an AAMC... hence the Kaplan "curve".

However, if you check out some summer MCAT threads, most recent testtakers have said their exam was very similar to an AAMC and their scores similar or between their AAMC/Kaplan averages.

thx for the advice futuredoctor
Yes it is a very odd test indeed, I received a score of 14 on PS for getting 38 out of 45, while I only got a 8 on the VR for getting 37/45.

I think Im gonna stop worrying about how they scale things and just concentrate on the concepts and the material. That's the only way to guarantee a good score on the MCAT.

Yeah that's a good idea. Scores are always very relative, sometimes fluctuate, and as long as you take AAMCs closer to your test date to get a general idea of where you stand that'll be fine. Good luck! When is your test date? I'm taking the exam on 8/22

My test day is sept 6
I still have like 17 full lengths, guess I'll do 1 FL every 2 days up till the test day.
