No, I don't think so. It is considered a Historical Black Medical school but if you have a desire to serve the underserved then I think you would fit in. Their class is majority African American but they welcome anybody who fits their mission statement. God bless.

I didn't get mine until a couple of weeks after I was verified. Not sure about before the MCAT, but if they don't screen and you have your AMCAS verified, I dont see why they wouldn't send you the secondary.

I got the interview email today afternoon giving the date/time. Also, the message said that I will get a formal letter in the mail. Maybe you should email the Dean soon...it's never too soon to tell them why you are enthusiastic about the school (in my opinion).

about my PS score...i think i stopped "studying" and decided to start "practicing" more. I felt like I knew all the concepts but since most of my chemistry and physics classes were back in 2001-2003, I didn't have the problem-solving capacities that comes with practice.
Granted, the MCAT is more or less a conceptual test that makes you think, but the PS is STILL gonna make you crunch numbers. I finally found this out after two poor scores! I was just missing the practice questions. Got some PS topic tests and went to town on those for a month straight...and ignored BS/VR studies...hope that helps some.

On HOLD! Actually, I was so happy just not to get rejected right off the bat. :laugh: I mean, I still might in a few wks or months or however long... but at least, it's not today, not now.

But... does anyone know what a "hold" from Morehouse means? Is Morehouse one of those schools that basically uses hold to mean eventual rejection? Or do a good amt of ppl get interviews out of hold stage?

Also, is it a good idea to send an update letter or LOInterest letter now ?

im not sure if they really are rejecting people right now, as i haven't seen or heard of anyone rejected as of yet...

I had my morehouse Interview sept 26, Love the school, the faculty, atmosphere. They really prepare u to be successful on the boards and in life.Great opportunities to do research and also contribute to your community.
I Love it to so much I sent in a letter of Intent to the School. It's my first choice. With 4 interviews so far and 2 more to go, I think I have an idea of where I will fit in the best and be successful and Morehouse is the best "fit" for me.
I cant continue to rave about the school.It's a gem. I am grateful for the interview and will love to attend the school.

From what I ve heard about the hold, most schools usually relook the ppl in february to consider for invites.It might be different at morehouse but I think when there is still light at the end of the tunnel, you should be thankful. Good Luck evryone in this cycle.

Hola everyone. It looks like I'll be interviewing December 5. I got an email notifying me of my complete status on 10/15 and got an interview invite (via email) the following day! At this point I am very grateful for any medical school to be interested in me. But I must say that it would be great to stay in Atlanta. I applied EDP to MCG and was rolled over to regular admissions. The facilities were great and the school had a nice atmosphere to it, but I wasn't terribly excited about the location. Plus, I am a big fan of Morehouse's mission to address health disparities in underserved communities. To those waiting to hear back, keep up the faith. And to those that have interviewed, care to inform us as to how the day went? Many thanks and take care.

i just had my interview there today. it went great-this is really an amazing school!! check out the interview feedback for more details. they said that they will send out acceptances around thanksgiving time. im keeping my fingers crossed. :luck:

i don't think anyone has gotten rejected...which makes this hold scenario a little more negative. i think it's way too early for them to reject people, hence the hold.

Hola everyone. I was initially invited to interview on December 5, but due to a previous engagement I requested an earlier date. After speaking with the kind folks at the admissions office, they asked me if I would like to come in this past Friday and interview. Well, I really can't say enough good things about the experience. First of all, EVERYONE affiliated with that school was so incredibly nice. It seemed as though each and every student we saw made an attempt to stop by and say hello. And it never seemed forced or anything but truly sincere. Also, all the students I interviewed with were great. If any of you are reading this by the way, best of luck on the interview trail, and I hope that we'll be seeing one another next fall!!!!!!! To those waiting to interview, don't fret at all. It was the most relaxed environment you could possibly imagine. Take care.

seriously-not to sound corny but just be yourself. this was the most laid back and nice interview. make sure that you know what you wrote in your AMCAS application because they ask questions from there. also make sure you know why you want to go to Morehouse!:luck:

In a nutshell, I told him that the class taught me how to formulate my claims, supporting evidence and conclusion to an argument or discussion. Pretty much the class taught me to think about what I say before I say it. He replied that Sarah Palin should have taken a class in Critical Thinking. :nod:

That brings up a good point. If you are a Republican, don't wear it on your sleeve at this school. I am not a Republican, nor do I think they would necessarily hold it against you but it definitely will not win you points in the interview. I know they strive for diversity but I got the feeling that they may draw the line here. Just my own opinion.

I REALLY enjoyed the interview there and pray that I get the opportunity to matriculate there.

I interviewed in October and yes the 3rd or 4th year students ask you to write something unique about yourself that is not in your AMCAS app on an index card before they give you a tour. Also, everyone has 2 interviews.

i haven't heard anything negative from anyone, but i know some of us are supposed to hear from them around thanksgiving regarding our post-interview status. :eek:

Interview day was awesome, the school is really amazing! Morehouse's website doesn't really give much info about the school other than its mission, so the interview day was super informative. I loved everything about Morehouse & am praying for some good news soon!! They also said that they aren't notifying applicants about post-interview decisions til december 5th

For the 07-08 class it says 248 interviewed, 52 matriculated. It does not say how many accepted. Probably twice that 52. You probably have a 50/50 chance after being interviewed. Just guessing...

I was accepted to my top choice osteopathic school, so I'm definitely excited about that. However, if I get an invite to Morehouse I'm definitely going. I've only been complete for about a month, but I would love to hear something in the next month or 2.

Beerog2003 stay positive. One of the most beautiful things about Morehouse is that they really do look at the person and their interest not just at the numbers. I'm sure you will be a great doctor and I will pray with you that you get good news in the weeks to come. Remember, at this one school numbers are not everything and I thank God for that. It just works out that numbers are not everything at my top choice school. I'm sure this makes for a class of people who really care.

Yeah, all of my friends that were applying with me have dropped out of this cycle. I am still holding the torch over here trying to keep it lit.

when i interviewed on october 17th, Dr. Roaf said that they would be sending the letters of acceptances out right after thanksgiving. and if we dont hear back by the 2nd week of december to give them a call to find out whats going on. i have been on pins and needles checking my mailbox and still have nothing. this is driving me CRAZY!!:bang:

I think they said something like they send out letters in batches, so 12/5 is probably when they notify everyone who interviewed before that date, and they'll have other set dates for people who interview after 12/5... I may be wrong though :confused:

You may want to give them a call. Sometimes a few letters don't get sent out for whatever reason.

Hello, I am an Asian American, would I be really out of place in morehouse?

There are many asians at morehouse. In fact, it is the most diverse HBCU out there. Think of it this way, most schools, medical, law, undergrad are 50% white and 50% everyone else (black, asian/Indian, hispanic, middle eastern, jewish)
Morehouse is 55% black, and 45% everyone else. In a class of 56 people, there are 8 asians (oriental), 5 Indians, 4 white people, 5 middle eastern or jewish people (they check the caucasian, middle eastern box). So I feel you wont be out of place because you are not african or african american. I feel out of place because I went to college, masters and worked in the most liberal state in the US and now I am in the bible belt ( which has nothing to do with morehouse being an hbcu, but the state of Georgia)

The HBCU I think you would feel out of place, Meharry.There class is almost twice Morehouse size and I heard they accepted one Indian person two years ago. Good Luck, Morehouse is getting way harder to get into. New dean with higher admissions standards

So last year, they sent decisions to anyone who interviewed before nov14/15th in December.The November, first week of dec had to wait til the spring (march)

If you interviewed in the first few groups, last week of september, first three fridays of October, those were the best shots. Last week of October and the other Nov dates, those are the harder interview times, but people still got in. I interviewed in the first batch, the very first day and of the ten people in my group, 6 are in my class now. Maybe the other 4 got in and went elsewhere. Merry Christmas everyone!!!!!!!!!!! I am looking forward to hearing back from Morehouse early next year. It was said that the next batch of acceptances should go out between Jan 21st and Feb 2nd. I am praying hard that Morehouse works out. Has anyone decided for sure that Morehouse is where you will be?

I know that this is not the rejection thread, but I just got one from Morehouse last week. OUCH! I think post interview rejections hurt the worst. :smack:

Hello I'm new to SDN...I'm hoping and praying that I get to go to Morehouse...I'm currently on a preinterview hold so I guess you could say that being on hold is making me go nuts too :rolleyes:

I got an interview for morehouse for feb 6th. Tell me about your interview. It's my first so i need to know what to expect.

This was my most enjoyable interview of all. It is true, relax and enjoy the day. The day starts with an overview of the day followed by your first interview and then over lunch there is a presentation about Morehouse. After lunch there is a question and answer session with 2 students, who then take you on a tour of the campus. Following the tour you have your second interview and the day ends with a tour of Grady hospital. I did not leave until ~4:45

I interviewed Dec. 12 and we were told that we would here back between Jan 21st and the end of the first week of February (I assume that means the Saturday the 7th). If you have any specific questions feel free to ask or PM me, also be sure to check out the interview feedback for Morehouse, I found that very helpful.

No, just trying really hard to be patient, but I keep calling home everyday to have my parents check the mail box.

I am in GA, so I will be sure to post something as soon as I get a letter. Right now I get my comfort in seeing new post on this site. Hoping that one day I will see someone say "Accepted." Until then we will have to keep each other company, you know that misery loves company.

I interviewed on Jan 16th, and they said that the adcom is meeting late Jan/Early Feb. They also said decisions will be mailed out by Feb 10th.

I haven't decided yet, it's between Morehouse and Drexel, but I am leaning more towards Morehouse

I was wondering if someone can provide me with general information on Morehouse concerning...

whether or not the curriculum is system based
if there are good research opportunities at Morehouse
what kind of student activites are there at Morehouse (for a class size of only ~56 students, how many student organizations can there be?)
I know that Morehouse is really big on primary care and stresses serving the underserved populations. What exactly does Morehouse do differently, if anything, than other medical schools to emphasize those two things?
Finally, does this mean that very few students go into a residency other than a primary care residency?

I'd hate to start one and have to bail out on it. I'm waiting to hear from 2 other schools that I'd absolutely love to attend. So actually, I'd really like to start a group and then leave it since that'd mean I got into my top choice school (both schools are tied for my top choice, then Morehouse would be my 2nd). Haha, oh well...
