Just curious what people think are "must-read" materials for new doctors.

Felson's guide to chest roentegram
Cope's guide to the acute abdomen
I also like the JAMA Rational Clinical Exam articles...

Any thoughts?

Let's not forget about HOG (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_god). It's a bit dated, quite sexist, and over the top but is worth a read as an intern.

I'm personally not really a fan of reading House of God during intern year...or clinical med school rotations. I think people get cynical enough from having to work a lot and being low on the medical totem pole, without reading that book to make them more cynical and maybe arrogant...but that is just me.

There is a pocket guide put out by Harvard/Mass General that is really useful (like a tiny 3 ring notebook full of the info medicine interns would need).

Some like the Washington Manual series, though I find them a bit superficial.

Cleveland Clinic Manual of Cardiology.

Either Marini or Marino's Critica care books
NEJM's Clinical Progress sections are good.

I meant Clinical Practice. I don't know if they hide those under a seperate section but if you type Clinical Practice in the search bar and most of them will pop up.

House of God

Not sure why House of God is always the knee jerk response...pretty uncreative answer to a wide open question. Not sure if I would call them "must reads," but here are two books that entertain while at the same time painting the historical backdrop of medicine and surgery, respectively, as each were coming of age:
