I will be applying to medical school for Fall 2004 and had some questions about medical specialties. I am a woman, and would like to have a family someday if I get married. I am also interested in OB/GYN. What are the typical hours like for this kind of doctor during and after residency? Is it possible to work part-time after residency?

Typical hours are about to change with the new work-hour restrictions. 80-88 hours/week will be the requirement. OB/Gyn residents tend to work alot, so that will have to change. OB/Gyn is a 4 year program. Lifestyle post-residency is largely dependent on you. You can work part-time, depending upon the practice that you enter, whether or not you have an established patient population, how much money you need to make to pay off loans, etc. Good luck.
