Thanks guys. jdh71 08-08-2008, 03:48 PM This info is often not so easy to tease out. Thanks guys. Any area of the country? Asterix 08-08-2008, 11:21 PM Most of the Internal Medicine programs in the Midwest take DOs, some exceptions being the University of Michigan and Northwestern. Just off the top of my head, last year I received interviews from: Mayo ( Not sure if this is really counts as a University program) University of Wisconsin Loyola Rush Medical College of Wisconsin University of Iowa University of Cincinnati Ohio State University of Minnesota PM me if you have any specific questions dragonfly99 08-09-2008, 02:00 PM I am pretty sure the U of Missouri-Columbia takes DO's but I'm not sure it's the best medicine residency program ever. their ABIM board pass rate isn't too hot. On the plus side, it's in a pretty nice college town, would be nice to live in if you have a family, and they have the full complement of fellowship programs, etc. You could try U of Tennessee-memphis as well...I'm not sure but I think they'd take DO's. ? St. Louis U. I'm not sure. jdh71 08-09-2008, 08:40 PM I am pretty sure the U of Missouri-Columbia takes DO's but I'm not sure it's the best medicine residency program ever. their ABIM board pass rate isn't too hot. St. Louis U. I'm not sure. U Missouri - Columbia does interview a lot of DOs, and even if the town is a cool college town, I wouldn't recommend sending an app there unless it is a last resort sort of a thing. Now, I admit I am only basing my opinion on a single interview day, but I was extremely underwhelmed. I didn't even rank them. I hate running an "assassination" on a program, because I am sure it could be great if they tried harder, but I'm telling you, for the short term, you DO NOT WANT. jdh71 08-09-2008, 08:48 PM U Kansas does it's fair share of DOs too, and seem quite comfortable with them, with the DO school in town. This is a VERY busy University Program (It's a county hospital + uni hospital) - all the fellowships represented, Pulm/CC being the most notable IMHO. LOVED their PD, a little on the newish side, but he seemed to have the right ideas - I'd say def a program in transition in a positive direction. They didn't get a higher rank on my list because even if the program itself seemed pretty good, I wasn't convinced of a personality fit. Iowa Methodist - it has a university association with U of Iowa - also very comfortable with DOs. It's a nice hospital sort of a community + university synthesis thing going on. It's technically a community program, but the hospital is very nice and is big with all services. Very family-like atmosphere. I could have seen myself there, and been happy, but I had concerns about fellowship, even if they placed people into fellowships every year. dragonfly99 08-11-2008, 08:44 AM Dartmouth used to have several DO's. Their hospital is phat too! It's kind of out in the middle of nowhere, which is probably why it's not quite as popular a choice for residency as some other places. nevertheless05 08-11-2008, 10:13 AM are there any top 20-30 IM programs that will interview DOs? I notice in midwest the two most reputable University programs, Michigan and Northwestern, will not take DOs. VCMM414 08-11-2008, 07:44 PM are there any top 20-30 IM programs that will interview DOs? I notice in midwest the two most reputable University programs, Michigan and Northwestern, will not take DOs. BUT... Mayo seems to be accommodating, and it is obviously a very strong program as well. Can anyone comment on U Chicago? Ohio State, U Minnesota, U Wisconsin, et al. are all good programs as well and should not be overlooked. dragonfly99 08-12-2008, 04:44 PM I know someone who is a resident at U of Chicago (not in internal medicine) and he doesn't like it and his department seems to be malignant. The hospital seemed kind of old and run down when I was there too. Not sure how busy their ER is, either. Still, they do have a strong academic aura about the place, and I think the IM residents do well in fellowship placement, I'm just not sure about the atmosphere. adam6 08-12-2008, 07:06 PM I know someone who is a resident at U of Chicago (not in internal medicine) and he doesn't like it and his department seems to be malignant. I have friends who are doing their fellowships at U of C. While they find the residents to be quite solid, they aren't sure that some of their abilities are commensurate with the fellowships they get...ie: the name goes a long way :-) Obviously, I have no direct contact and am basically just spreading rumor and heresay heheheh. One thing that is certain - any program would be proud of this match list! http://medchiefs.bsd.uchicago.edu/documents/FellowshipMatchResults_2007_002.pdf FutureSoxDoc 08-14-2008, 05:03 PM Cleveland Clinic Yale Drexel Temple UMDNJ Robert Wood UMNDJ Newark off the top of my head... HoodyHoo 08-25-2008, 01:11 PM Cleveland Clinic Yale Drexel Temple UMDNJ Robert Wood UMNDJ Newark off the top of my head... I have a good friend that got into Emory this past year. Then again he was probably one of the top DO candidates in the country. |
