View Full Version : Only one month to study! What should I do?
socloseithurts 08-15-2008, 03:53 PM Hey guys,
So I took the DAT once and did pretty mediocre . I just got a letter from Case saying they want me to take it again... so I am. However, I want to get it done ASAP and i think the first day I can take it is Sept 22, which is a little over a month away. So, what do you think I should use?
I already did the Kaplan Course and TS, and to be honest, I didn't think they represented the test at all (but then again, I got the freaking FRAP passage and ethics passage).
I'm thinking of buying examcrackers for orgo and chem, Achiever, CDP, and my AP bio book. Any other suggestions?
Thanks!!:)
ksksks 08-15-2008, 04:02 PM wow the dental schools actually tell you to retake in their letter? I guess the rumour of just chucking the appication in the garbage bin was really a rumour
i thought the schools just go through a bunch of numbers over and just flatly say ur not in.

I think Case does both. I know that a couple of people have already gotten rejections some got the same letter I did saying that I should take the DAT again. I just don't know how to study again.
priyerz 08-15-2008, 10:16 PM Have you completed all fhte online Kaplan assignemtns?

some solid choices there . the only thing i would add is destroyer. Only problem is unless your studying 15 hours a day i dont think you'll have enough time to go over all of that and understand it well in one month.
doc3232 08-16-2008, 11:11 AM Good luck. Get Cliffs for the best AP book.

if you dont mind my asking, what is "mediocore??" sub 18 AA/TS? would you mind posting your scores? i (and i'm sure a ton of other ppl on SDN) applied to case so im curious
Chesnok 08-16-2008, 02:45 PM just relax and study with a good night sleep and a fresh brain; and don't overstudy -- if your brain doesn't want to work more, do go over the limit --it's all about retaining info and not just stuffing it with lots' of info it can't process in a short period of time.
Good sleep is very important especially before exam itself.
Good luck.
happyana 08-16-2008, 02:51 PM i did some problems from examcrackers for gen chem. it was kind of a waste of time. too many of the problems are tricky and didn't really give me a lot to work with.
JBarr29 08-16-2008, 02:55 PM my recommendation is most definitely the destroyer. It is my primary source of studying, with a mix of cdp and reference books for bio.
good luck
wbloo 08-16-2008, 05:24 PM First you need to forget how you did on the last DAT - pick up your head and get yourself Cliffs AP for the Bio, Destroyer, Achiever and Crack the PAT.
Sit down and STUDY - go over everything - which includes wrong answer choices and right answer choices - if there is a word or reaction you don't understand - look it up and read up on it.
Diligence will def help you get the score you want.
A month is a long time - I def think you can do it -
Good luck!
socloseithurts 08-16-2008, 06:34 PM so my scores are:
PAT 19
QR 18
RC 17
Bio 18
GC 19
Orgo 19
TS 19
AA 18
i thought about only getting destroyer an CDP, but i'm not sure a month is enough time. in that case, i don't want to overwhelm myself. so i thought i'd stick with examcrackers. let me know what you guys think
pidbull 08-16-2008, 07:58 PM so my scores are:

wow those scores are not bad at all and they wanted a retake?
maybe they had a cutoff for RC at 18 or something, to me those scores looking pretty good...sucks that you have to take it again
Andre3k 08-16-2008, 10:17 PM yeah i pray that i get those scores
keliao 08-16-2008, 11:12 PM one month?...think of it this way, study like your test is in two weeks, as if there's no tomorrow.
socloseithurts 08-17-2008, 12:07 PM yea, i thought my scores were good, but apparently not good enough. i think maybe i'll get the examcrackers. i just don't think i can study 15hrs a day, which i'll need to do with destroyer
doc3232 08-17-2008, 12:25 PM Why examkrackers, it isnt a DAT book so it will be lacking in many areas.
socloseithurts 08-17-2008, 01:59 PM one of my friends recommended it and said it was a great resource. she got into penn, but is also really smart. so, i don't know. that's why i'm asking for advice!! :)
klpennin 08-17-2008, 02:05 PM You should just try destroyer...it will only take like 3 days to go though the orgo, and thats all you need it for. Just write down on a note card the reagents you don't know and memorize them. It will help with orgo, trust me.
Bio, I would say Kaplan should be enough, and maybe schuams/AP cliffs if you are not a Bio type major.
G chem diddo. I think Kaplan should be enough, and you are really close to a 20, just practice the problems a little more.
PAT, well again, really close to a 20, just practice a little more!
QR, looks good to me!
RC, pray you don't get FRAPPED again...it just comes down to luck.
TeamGuo 08-17-2008, 03:58 PM 1 month is a long time especially since you've already taken the DAT. You just need to brush up on certain things.
do it. :D
