Hi ,

I am applying for IM categorical ....but in some programs they were mentioning 'primary care' also as separate categorical prog ...whats the difference between the normal IM categorical and IM 'primary care' categorical ?....what are the advantages and disadvantages of both?....does both of these have same chance of fellowships?

Thanks in advance:)

For places that have both normal IM and "Primary Care" tracks, it is my understanding that the Primary Care track means a shift of less hospital rotations and more clinic time. There is also generally a slightly greater influence on women's health and minor office procedures.

If you are interested, you should definitely inquire with about the specifics with the program
