Does anyone have any insight into the following progams:

Lackland (SAUSHEC)
Wright-Patterson
David Grant

These are some of the programs I am considering going to for ADT's. I would appreciate any info regarding these programs or general info about Internal Med residencies in the AF.
Thanks!

my cousin is not in IM, but she is at SAUSHEC right now. Wilford Hall is the main Air Force hospital and it's programs are better than any other, across the board, as far as I know without exception. Then again...Travis is right outside San Francisco...so depends on what you're looking for.

Although I did my ADT's only at Wright Patterson, it seems to be a program more oriented to teaching, from a Residency standpoint, when compared to the other Air Force programs. Wright Patterson is in Wright State's Residency system, which means that you have the opportunity to rotate through all of the area hospitals (many of which are larger and have greater patient volume than Wright Patt itself). In addition, while Lackland (Wilford Hall) is a larger facility, you also have to contend with Fellows, who tend to get first dibs on procedures, thus taking away from much needed hands on experience. As far as ADTs are concerned, I'd recommend you at least consider doing one at Wilford Hall, and one at Wright Patt, and compare the two.

Thanks for the replies. I've been planning to check out both SAUSHEC and Wright Patt. Actually I am also doing an ADT in my 3rd year at Travis (not in IM), so I will get a chance to see it also. I scheduled it in January, so that hopefully I will have some medical experience under my belt by then. I plan to use that as my introduction to military medicine, but also to check out the programs they have going on there.
