Some FP residency programs I have been looking into stress what great OB training you get including c-section and tubal ligation. If you go to one of these programs are you "certified" to perform c-sections and tubal ligations when you get out? Or do you have to do an OB fellowship to be certified to do these procedures?

each hospital has criteria for granting c-section rights, generally based on nuber of procedures performed. many hospitals use 20-40 as the magic # so if you were primary surgeon on that many as a resident you get to do them. if not, you can do a fellowship.
many of the rural fp training programs have very strong surgical and high risk ob training so you should not have trouble getting priviledged for these procedures if you attend such a program. check out the programs at ventura county, contracosta county and natividad medical center, all in california for good examples of this type of program.
