View Full Version : Interview/Acceptance to Pharm Schools
CrazyIslander 03-06-2003, 06:04 PM This is to help applicants with information on schools that they have applied to or have had an interview and are waiting for the school's decision. This forum is not in anyway a place to show off....so if you are one of those I sugguest you make your own thread...there are many of us waiting for a response and any information can help to ease the tension of not knowing.
So.....
Who has had interviews (What schools)
&
Who got accepted!!!
List them out and good luck and congrats who got in!

UCSF (interview 1/25, still waiting)

Anyway, does anyone know when the UC schools are hoping to mail out the acceptances?
St.eve

hey jason UCSD2000, when did you submit your apps to albany and temple? when did you interview for albany? i also applied to albany, but my chances are kinda looking slim... do you know how long they'll be sending out interview invitaions for? is temple rolling admissions?
just curious.. thanks!:D
keiki 03-12-2003, 10:24 AM those schools posted in my previous thread were jason UCSD2000's posting... i don't know how to do the quote thing.. sorry!

- I submitted my application to albany in mid-january. It was for the accelerated option. I submitted my Temple application in mid-feb. It is rolling admissions. There is no interview for the Albany school. It makes me concerned about the quality of the school, since my application and interview for UCSF was so extensive. I'm surprised I didn't have to submit a DNA a sample at that interview.:)
BRUINGOLD 03-12-2003, 02:15 PM CrazyIslander-- did you get the email or letter acceptance or both??

THANKS for the laugh
jason-
Albany is a excellent clinical school. Passage rates for the NABPLEX and NYS Boards are very high (98 % when I was there). NY boards are tough and if you can pass in NY, you can pass anywhere!
BTW-the "quality" of a school cannot be measured on the basis of whether a school interviews or not. Albany is one of the older pharm. schools in the US and traditionally recruited students straight from high school ("lifers" as we called them) into the 5-year B.S. program. As the curriculum and profession changed, so did Albany. It was one of the few schools that phased-out the BS and integrated the PharmD curriculum quickly. To get to my original point...Albany didn't interview because they wanted to know if an 18 year could handle the academic load, i.e. grades. What would and interview accomplish? How many 18 year olds have substantial experience and worldliness to talk about in an interview?
Just my 2 cents, loo
ucdbiochem 03-13-2003, 02:43 PM Hello UCSF School of Pharmacy Applicant,
I am sending this message to all applicants to give you a general update. I am well aware that many of you have been trying to reach me. We are in the final stages now of processing admission offers and getting notifications in the mail.
Assuming that each of you would want to know the decision as soon as possible, I have made that my priority. If you have left a message or sent an email or fax it has been saved and I will respond to it. You can help this process by not making repeated calls, sending multiple e-mails, faxes, etc. to see if I received your fax, call, or email. The systems all work here <grin> and I will respond to you as soon as I am able.
A few points for those of you who may be concerned about status letters that you received If prior to the deadline in your letter you have contacted the office with regards to a deficiency and left a message, you will NOT be canceled for deficient prerequisites -- whether or not I have yet returned your message.
For those of you who have schedule changes. Remember, you should not wait for my approval to enroll in Spring classes - especially if it is not related to your prerequisites. Reserve your space in the class, if it has to be changed at a later date, that is easier than crashing the course.
I know this is a nerve-wracking time for all of you, but that is why we are trying to get the letters out as quickly as possible. I know some of you have already heard and I wish you congratulations. For the rest of you, I wish you the best of luck.
Sincerely,
James C. Betbeze, Jr.
UCSF School of Pharmacy
PharmD Admissions Coordinator

Just to let you know - my comment wasn't meant as a slam on Albany (heck, I applied to the school); It was meant as a comment on UCSF's application process.

CrazyIslander 03-19-2003, 04:58 PM BRUINGOLD,
A crazy thing about receiving my letter of acceptance. The first week of March came and went and I didn't receive any thing, so I continued to play the wondering game. The next week came and I got a strange email from UCSD saying that a letter with my name was returned. So I went to the admissions office and they gave me the letter saying it was the same as the email I received. I steped out of the door and found out that I had been accepted to their program (it was dated 3/3 and I went to the office on 3/11). I never got an email saying that I had been accepted. Very wierd thing...

Triangulation 04-05-2003, 06:04 PM What's your first choice jdpharmd?
jdpharmd? 04-05-2003, 07:04 PM I like both Midwesterns, and LECOM is really not even being considered anymore (unless I wan to wait until June). Ferris was tossed in there becuase it's a state school and would save me tons of cash but they waitlisted me DEEP, so they are out of consideration too. They require no letters of rec, no essay, and no interview. My 3.0 GPA and 96% PCAT wasn't enough to get their attention I suppose. I can't imagine who got in (community college 4.0's and 65% PCATs?). I will be at either midwestern this fall, and I've been accepted to Downers Grove, just waiting on Glendale (3 year only!). It will be a tough choice if I'm admitted to both. I loved both areas and the faculty was great, I just need to make sure that I've got the stamina for a 3 year (summers too) program if I'm accepted. I'm expecting it any day, so I'll post it when I get it. LECOM can go fly a kite, their communication has been horrible and I'd go to any fully accredited school before I'd go to LECOM. My parents are also moving this summer, so I might consider a transfer after my first year. It's all up in the air right now. As of today, I am going to Midwestern, Downers Grove and I'll be BROKE when I get out. (20k tuition, 20k living expenses per year!)
Good Luck to all!
Jd
riskhk 04-05-2003, 07:58 PM From what I heard about LECOM they are still accepting applicants thats why they arent interviweing...Some girl told me while I was at maryland
tryinghard 04-06-2003, 03:21 AM hey jdpharmd...you said taht you might transfer after your first year...can you tell me if thsi is possible. i diddn't know schools allowed this due to different curriculum. which shcools allow transfers.
jdpharmd? 04-06-2003, 10:46 AM LECOM accepts applications until June, it's stupid.
As far as transferring goes, it depends on the school and the classes taken. I know several schools that accept transfer students, just look at their webpages, most will tell you if they do or not right there.

Yes, Wazzu is my first choice, I live in Spokane so its not so far from home, and I felt like WSU really wanted me to be there, in contrast to the impersonal feel of U-dub. WSU's letters went out on Monday April 7. Good Luck! I heard that U-dub isn't sending out their acceptance letters until the end of April, so I'm glad that I don't have to wait for that!:)

Way to represent the state of Washington!! Nice work wildchild!! All you WA staters are making me get all the nostalgic n sh#$ over my undergrad years in Seattle.
pomelolover 04-09-2003, 10:28 PM how did u know that wazzu really wanted u there- i mean im sure that they did but how were u sure of that? like did they tell u that in your interview?
pomelolover 04-09-2003, 10:32 PM yeah m. horton told me that the letters would be send out on monday also- i think bc i live in l.a. it might come later than it did for u since u are in spokane. do u know anyone else that got into wazzu too? what other schools did u apply to?
pomelolover 04-09-2003, 10:42 PM wasu told me that they had 390 some odd apps and they interviewed 210. they will accept 94 this year!

phuture pharmer 04-11-2003, 11:20 PM I just received acceptance letters from Wash St. and Montana today, and received one from U Washington dated 3/25. I agree with the previous post concerning the feel of the Wash St. vs. UWash interview. The folks at WSU were very affable and much more personable than those at UW, and it felt like they really were "recruiting" me instead of looking to eliminate me.
The UW interview was like a tag team ball-busting session. I felt like they were grilling me and putting me on the defensive just to see how I would tolerate the pressure. Maybe this was their intent, but as a result I don't feel I came off as my genuine self, so they may be getting a much different guy than they planned on!
Anyhow, I chose UW because I live in Seattle and all of the students I spoke with at the school had positive comments about it. WSU has a great program, but there's nothing but grain and cattle for miles out in the palouse...
3wildchild 04-12-2003, 03:16 PM Congrats Phuture Pharmer
Thanx for answering Pomelolovers question about WSU. I visited WSU and UW pharm schools last summer, WSU made it very clear that they wanted me, and has followed up regularly with me throughout this year. I can't handle Seattle, too much traffic, so cows and wheat do me just fine!
How did you get such an early acceptance to UW? Everybody that I know who applied are still waiting very impatiently! Hope you look good in purple!
pomelolover 04-13-2003, 08:38 PM yeah thanks for the feedback- i actually got rejected from WSU- but its ok - bc honestly i really didn't imagine myself there- being from the greater l.a. area just makes it hard to be in the palouse- kinda like phuture pharmer said and i think i want to go for a program that is located in a more urban area- even spokane seemed a little too depressed for me. but maybe it was just the one day i was there, it was a sunday and completely dead! no one was around and the town was a complete ghost town. is this normal? i'm waitlisted at two other schools- but im 99% sure im not gonna go this year. its all good bc i have the min. pre pharm classes done- given that i have a social science background i'd like to take biochem and other classes for another year, reinforce my background in the sciences, study for the pcat and apply thru pharmcas as well. at any rate- congrats again on the school of your choice!
oh btw- it was so weird- when i got my rejection letter i actually recieved two envelopes- both were addressed to me- strangly tho- one of the letters was a rejection letter to another applicant in WA. even tho it was addressed to me on the envelope. im sure that guy is going crazy wondering where his letter is!!! im gonna call wasu tomorrow and let them know!
pomelolover 04-17-2003, 12:25 PM i'm waitlisted at Long Island U and Creighton U. does anyone have any info on these schools? and also what are some effective ways of getting off the waitlist?+pity+

Personally, I know nothing about either of those campuses. But....
If the tuition ends up being the same, I would recommend the accelerated program. Getting out one year earlier to work and start paying off your loans is favourable. I have a feeling, too, that living in Arizona is cheaper to live than in Chicago.
Have you gone to check out those places?
Congratulations on your acceptances!
jason UCSD2000 05-17-2003, 06:07 AM Hey riskhk:
Have you heard anything back from Temple yet? I also applied there. Not that I would go there if I got accepted, but I still haven't heard anything back - except for the letter stating that they received my application. Oh well, I hope everyone in the admissions office used my application fee to have a nice lunch:)
