I just took the DAT a few hours ago, and I was wondering how my scores look. I am feeling on the fence about taking it again because I could bring my scores up with some more studying.

Here is the break down

PAT: 21
Quantitative Reasoning: 18
Reading Comprehension:20
Biology: 19
General Chemistry: 23
Organic Chemistry:21
Total science: 21
Academic Average: 20

The rest of my resume looks like this: BA Biology UNC Chapel Hill 2.9 GPA BS Biochemistry UNC Greensboro 3.5 GPA with a year of undergrad reasearch (my own project). 600+ hours volunteering in a Cancer Biology lab at Wake Forest. 250+ hours volunteering in an Oral and Maxillofacial office. I am an artist and do both 3D and 2d art with a porfolio to show a school my hand eye coordination. Photography work for a furniture manufacturer. I have also done 40 hours of shadowing my general dentist and 40 hours shadowing a pediatrician. I will likely be presenting at the American Chemical Society conference this August as well.

I know the schools I am looking at affect whether or not I need to take it again so here are the school I am looking at: UNC Chapel Hill, VCU, Medical College of Georgia, Medical College of South Carolina, LSU. Chapel Hill is by far my #1 choice with VCU second.

Thanks everyone!!!

Your scores are solid no need to retake. Obviously UNC chapell hill is the most difficult school to get accePted to from that list but I think your grades will get you an interview.

Unless you are a GA resident, scratch Medical College of Georgia off the list. They only accept in state.....atleast I'm pretty sure .....

that low GPA was from a past degree. I went back and am now finishing up a biochem degree so my GPA for this one is much higher and that's from taking almost entirely chemistry classes

i think you are fine. The high GPA will somehow average out the low one and the admissions like the upward strend too. Gluclk

You did great on you DAT, no need to retake just make sure you apply right away. Schools definitely love to see improvement in GPA which I think you have shown. Great luck getting in to your top choice.
