Hi guys,
I'm a jobless, visa needing old IMG, planning to apply widely in Ophthal this year. I'd like to know the approximate expenditure for the whole match process including SFmatch plus NRMP for PGY1. Not that I'm desperately running out of money, but I want to know what I'm getting myself into! :p Any help will be greatly appreciated.

No one will be able to give you answer since your information is not specific, like how long you have been out of school? can you get a job back in your home country to have some income ??anyway ,good luck

I thought the OP was asking how much it would approximately cost him/her to apply for residency (SF Match + NRMP). What does time since graduation have to do with cost of residency applications?

OP, how many programs do you plan on applying for? I'm guessing the number will be high.

Hi,
Yes, indeed! I'm asking for a rough financial estimate of the whole match process. I plan to apply widely, but I've no idea to how many programs! Still hav'n't done homework on that, because I'm so busy with my CK now. Done with CS and step-1. Thanks

I ended up applying to over a 100 programs and the total sfmatch cost came out to ~2500 if I remember correctly. As an IMG, I only got a handful of interviews and of those a few were out of state so each one came out to around $500 on average (flight, hotel, car, etc). It's hard to answer your question because it all depends on how many interviews you get and where you will be flying. For me, I think I got a total of 9 interviews incl prelims and the total for me came out to ~5000.
