View Full Version : For the love of God, is there any way to print the frigging FL exams? nyc5614 05-21-2009, 06:44 PM Kaplan Representative or fellow MCAT studier or veteran, Please tell me there is a way to print these full-length exams. cher25 05-21-2009, 08:55 PM Kaplan Representative or fellow MCAT studier or veteran, Please tell me there is a way to print these full-length exams. I don't think there is. I've tried myself and been unsuccessful. It won't even let you copy text! Cjc555777 05-22-2009, 04:11 AM You don't want to print them. Do as much as you can of any practice on the computer. Most people read slower on the computer than they do on paper, so get used to it. Sorry, even if there is a way to print it out you shouldn't, it's in your best interest phospho 05-22-2009, 04:26 AM You don't want to print them. Sorry, even if there is a way to print it out you shouldn't, it's in your best interest I agree! Although i think it's pretty lame that they don't let you print them out, you need to force yourself to do them at the computer... being able to to do the MCAT on paper and at the PC are two completely different things. Good luck! link2swim06 05-22-2009, 06:31 AM I agree with everyone else, there is little point in printing them out becuase the difference in paper vs. computer tests. Also I am pretty sure it is against Kaplan's policy, I think it high improbable you would get in trouble for copying them but it is kinda against their policies. Good luck http://www.tracker-data.com/data/img/4015/m09d0317xktz/2.gif nyc5614 05-22-2009, 07:25 AM No no no - I wasn't looking to print them out to take the exam, I wanted to read the solutions to the exam offscreen, as I had been staring at a computer screen for five hours previously and my eyeballs were burning by the time I tried to start reading the solutions. As some of you mentioned above, it's harder to read onscreen - they need to find a way to at least make reading the solutions easier. Effectively learning from one's mistakes is, after all, probably the most important part of the learning process. Incidentally, I'm not sure how many of you have tried to reach Kaplan IT, but 48 hours turnarond time for IT assistance is not acceptable! There's a depression going on, in case no one's noticed, and IT heads are the first to roll in this economy - they can do better than 48 hours...or they can find other people that are able to do so, as there are a lot of people looking for jobs right now... I love that you can get in touch with a salesperson practically in the middle of the night, though. SzeatKaplan 05-22-2009, 08:27 AM Dear nyc5614: Both the AAMC and Kaplan provide their explanations to the Full-Lengths in an online format. For the AAMC Full-Length's, we do provide PDF versions of the explanations because PDFs were an easier format to produce. They were created due to student feedback that AAMC explanations were insufficient. In relation to our Full-Length's, there are proprietary issues with being able to print our explanations. Since there is value to having your materials online (due to CBT format), there is little push to create PDFs for the explanations. Given the circumstance, I would recommend taking a break between taking the Full-Lengths and reviewing the explanations. If you are in a classroom course, please feel free to resource your instructor. Lastly, I would like to take a moment to talk about the new Explanations-on-Demand, which can only be provided on online format. We are set to release an EOD soon for Kaplan Full-Length 3, and EODs for Kaplan Full-Lengths 4 and 5 will be released soon thereafter. If you have any further issues or concerns that you would like to get addressed, please feel free to PM me! nyc5614 05-22-2009, 08:42 AM Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, with regard to taking a break, my breaks are relegated by a 23-month old toddler, which is why I signed up for the online course instead of a classroom course. Also, while I can print solutions out and carry them with me as I follow him around, this is not the case with my laptop. Although I can understand the security concerns, if the answers were printed out without the questions (as the AAMC solutions that were created by Kaplan), I don't see where this would be giving away much. Answer solutions without questions are typically not of much value to someone. Additionally, in terms of proprietary concerns, I would have thought that this would have been more of an issue with the AAMC's, as Kaplan does not own the rights to the exam and obviously had to pay AAMC some fee in order to publish solutions to the exam. I am assuming that Kaplan has created the FL exams (as they have stated the time it takes for them to create each FL), so shouldn't this be solely up to Kaplan to make a decision whether or not to publish the solutions in a PDF format? Thanks again for the response! crazydiamond 05-29-2009, 10:45 PM I've got two young kids (ages 1 and 4) and I totally understand your desire to be able to print off the explanations. It's a big gripe of mine as well. My problem with coming back to the computer later is that I've forgotten the questions and what method I used to arrive at the answer, which forces me to reread the passage and start all over. I do best reviewing questions right after I take the test. But with two young kids, I can't stay at the computer all day. |
