When i hit this problem i stopped because i didnt want to waste my time with the calculations cuz i kno it will take some time, that and im a lazy *****:D. Will i ever encounter something that will require a good amount of calculating like that?

ya its #54 gen chem for destroyer.

How much heat is needed to convert 20g of ice at -40C to steam at 300C?

Gives u the specific heat of water ice and steam and the heat of fusion and heat of vaporization, its one of those long calculation problems.

I really doubt they put anything like that, but they probabely give you something with one phase change rather than 2!

i dont think this type of question is considered tough but yeah if you get this type of question remember that when ever there is a phase change there will never be a temperature change AND when there is temp. change never a phase change.

I would at least set up the problem. Practice calculating it once or twice because the forgetting unit conversions can lead to an incorrect answer.

they gave you that problem to help test your knowledge of those types of problems. I know what question you're talking about and it does take a while to solve...but it tests pretty much everything you need to know how to calculate and what to look out for when you see these types of problems.
