View Full Version : Got 219/290 in step 1 and 2CK
Hi all,
I am an IMG. I got an average score in step 1 219/91 and now got a very high score in step 2 290/99. I want to ask if there is any hope that program directors look at my scores and consider me for an IM residency.
I am little bit scared because people are saying that PDs only look at usmle step 1 scores and never look at step 2 scores. I would appreciate your feedback guys.
Thanks

aProgDirector 05-31-2009, 06:37 PM You're being silly. I have never seen a 290 before, and I have been doing this for quite some time. You'll do fine. Much of how you will do depends on the rest of your application.
aProgDirector, I did not understand what did you mean. I am really scared. Do you think that PDs will look at my step 2 scores and consider me in good programs?
Regarding the rest of my application, I got honors in all my clinical rotations and have 1 research published. Do you think that is good??

kenshin1 06-01-2009, 09:52 AM Why??
Perhaps because you write comments like you're "really scared" after doing unbelievably well on step 2 and honoring all your clinical rotations. You will do fine. Stop being ridiculous.
dragonfly99 06-03-2009, 02:57 PM Is it even possible to get a 290? I thought the top score was 270 or so.

I'm not sure. I saw this thread and was trying to do a search to find out, but am coming up empty-handed. I have never heard of someone scoring that high before...
aProgDirector 06-03-2009, 07:37 PM I have seen a 283.
kenshin1 06-03-2009, 07:56 PM Dr. Wikipedia says that the theoretical maximum for step 1 and step 2 is 300. I assume it's theoretical because no one ever attains it.
psychforme 06-03-2009, 09:43 PM I have seen a 283.
Step 1 or 2? What did you do?

The people here do not believe that you're being genuine, ie just trolling the forums to arouse a response. You signed on and posed a naive question as your first post.
If you're truly concerned about your situation, private message me and I will answer your question. This way, if you're a troll you'll have no incentive to do so.
Have a nice day.

Don't remember which step.
We did not offer an interview. Didn't meet our (other) minimum criteria. Clearly met our USMLE criteria.

I'm willing to bet it was Step 2. I've seen a 272 on Step 1 but that was an AMG (on SDN actually).
I've seen a 286 on Step 2 by a FMG who had practiced as an internist for years before deciding to come to the U.S.
Meat Cookie 06-05-2009, 06:15 PM By the way, still no PM from the OP.

What were the other criteria might I ask?

There's someone at my school rumored to have a 280+ on Step I. But then again, he has *horrible* social skills and only got into our medical school because of his 4.0 and 40+ MCAT (insider info: he scored a 0/10 on the medical school interview).
aProgDirector 06-12-2009, 09:42 PM What were the other criteria might I ask?
US clinical experience and LOR's.
theunderdog 06-14-2009, 02:05 PM the highest at my med school was 273. 2nd highest was 271. both of these people were extremely smart, but lacked in social skills.
