A lot of clerkship programs in the clerkship handbook require Photo. Iam having a hardtime understanding whats the reasoning behind this?
They have my social security number (incase they wanna do any background checks, etc) and my transcrips/Board Scores/LORs (to assess my academic performance).
I totally understand taking a photo for file once you are there as they have to make ID cards, upload in records, etc.
but asking for a photo while making a clerkship decision sounds confusing to me.

Because podiatry schools discriminate against ugly people. If you're ugly, you'll probably have to apply to MD school.

Everyone loves a good excuse for some new glamour shots.
Most good programs will have had at least a dozen externs rotate through by interview time... sometimes dozens. Add in maybe another half dozen or dozen residents. Add some random students who visit. Add in thousands of patients, workers at the hospitals they staff at, friends, family, etc. How good are you with remembering names?
It's probably just nice for the director and main attendings to have a photo with your application to help jog their memory as to who you were when it comes time for interviews or rankings.

Affirmative Action in case they can't tell your nationality by your name- this only make sense for admissions. :)
