PHARMCAS goes online May 5. This will definitely be an interesting application cycle. I predict that massive computer errors are gonna make this very interesting for applicants.

Yeah, I think so too. My boyfriend said that AMCAS had huge problems last year and that a lot of schools had to push back their deadlines so I'm guessing the same thing could happen to Pharmcas.

I'm guessing record applications and many more waitlists (as applicants ponder over 5 or 10 acceptances for a few months) than ever before. I would guess that admission will be even more competitive, but I could be wrong. I just looked on the AACP website and saw a pharm. school with an ave. GPA of 2.6! Can this be right? (2001)

Wow...Have fun with that.
AMCAS was unbelievably horrible. Ambiguous questions, lack of instructions, IF you could speak to someone it was a 2 hour wait, deadlines pushed back, admissions gone crazy.
In a few years when the system is ironed out, it will be great (hopefully), but if it is anything like last year's AMCAS (which I belive was due to the 9/11 attacks), then it will be rough.

does anyone have any recommendations for a pcat prep course?
04-17-2003, 12:27 PM
What the he%^ is even on the pcat? I don't know (never had to take it.)
04-17-2003, 12:42 PM
the pcat has reading comp (reading a passage usually science/health related and answerring ?'s), verbal (analogies and such), computative (math, algebra, geometry, no major calc), inorganic and organic chem, and general bio. 3.5 hrs long and on paper. offered 4 times a yr. its a lot less intense than the MCAT- from what i have seen in thompson pcat prep and barrons prep books. u r not penalized for wrong answers, just get more pts for right answers. time is a critical restraint.

For those of you using PharmCas this year, how's it going so far?
05-27-2003, 02:42 PM
I think it's pretty much common sense...But if you have questions, and email them at email@example.com, they're really good at replying soon...sometimes within a day. I think it's much better than the one for med school (which was pretty intricate)....

I started using PharmCAS last week and filled all the information I can for now. I did everything except my personal statement, transcripts, and PCAT information. It's pretty good. It's straight forward about what you have to do. Hopefully, it won't become a huge hassle as it gets closer to deadline time. But that's why I am starting early so i won't have to deal with all that (crossing my fingers)!
