Can someone briefly describe the UCSD hosptials and how "academically affiliated" each is? Also, is Hillcrest the main hospital?
I realize threads like this that ask for specific information tend to sit for awhile, so any information that any of you have (no matter how minuscule), is appreciated.
Thanks.

The medicine housestaff rotate at three hospitals mainly: Hillcrest, Thornton, and the VA. Hillcrest is the main teaching hospital, operates virtually as a county hospital and has a patient population typical of an urban large city. All the attendings have an academic appointment and the rotations are set up exactly like any other academic residency program. Thornton is the private hospital; very swank and the patient population is affluent for the most part. The same attendings from Hillcrest also rotate at Thornton, although some prefer not to work there. The VA is well, the VA, with their own staff with UCSD academic appointments. Strong academic disposition at all three hospitals, although Thornton often feels like a affluent community hospital.
